Sedona

Sedona was historically a rural ranching community in Oak Creek Canyon. Today, the sunny city attracts visitors to its red-rock cliffs and lush evergreens, international film festival, and lively art scene.

Richard Stephens

Rich has been director of Northern Arizona University’s highly popular Road Scholar programs since 2001. He previously spent many years in the field as a program coordinator and group leader, where he honed his skills and learned the importance of detailed, pre-trip planning. Before making his home in Arizona’s spectacular red-rock country, Rich spent 10 years in Yosemite National Park and the Santa Cruz mountains as an environmental educator.
 
Elena Bullard

Elena Bullard began her yoga training at the age of four when her grandmother taught her Sanskrit chants. After receiving a B.A. in archaeology and an M.A. in sociology, urban planning and architecture, Elena spent the next 25 years in the corporate world, and as adjunct faculty at Arizona State University. In 1995, Elena settled with her husband in Verde Valley, and became a full-time certified instructor, leading a yoga certification course at the Arizona School of Integrative Studies.
 
Veronica Vida

Veronica is an astrologer and expressive art therapist with a deep concern and passion for individual and planetary healing. She brings 30 years of experience in women’s spirituality, facilitating sacred rituals and ceremony. Veronica has worked with women, children, and families in a variety of settings, as a midwife, teacher, and therapist. Combining this rich experience with a master’s in counseling and expressive art therapy allows her to bring insight, compassion and creativity to her work.
 
Ahna Bridenbaugh

An Arizona licensed acupuncturist, Ahna Bridenbaugh obtained her master’s degree in 1996 from Emperor's College of Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California. She has enjoyed her private practice in Sedona since then, and serves as a board member for the Arizona Accupuncture Society (ASA). In addition, she teaches ongoing Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes.
 
Chizomana Black

Chizomana Chio Black was born at Second Mesa on the Hopi Indian Reservation. A few years after Chio’s birth, her parents died and she was raised by an uncle who taught her that Hopi culture wouldn’t be understood unless it was shared, leading Chio to lecture at museums. Later, she put aside a pop music career when she adopted three Hopi children. Chio is a member of the Indian Living Treasures Association, which honors Arizona Indians age 60 and over for dedication to arts and crafts.
 
Leslee Vogal

Leslee’s commitment to health and wellbeing spans 20 years of counseling, teaching and writing about sustaining vitality and balance. She holds advanced degrees in herbal medicine, holistic nutrition, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine and counseling. Leslee has a private practice in Sedona, Ariz., leads workshops for Miiamo Spa at Enchantment Resort, and is invited to teach and do interviews nationally. She has been featured in SPA magazine as an expert on health and wellness.
 
Robin Cameron

Robin Cameron, who has made Sedona home since 1971, is a certified Enneagram Teacher in the Narrative Tradition and a trained spiritual director with a strong background in 12-Step spirituality, scripture and the inquiry work of Byron Katie. She brings all her years of teaching, facilitating groups, and leading workshops and retreats into her presentation of the Enneagram in a highly interactive setting where people discover themselves with an understanding that is life-changing.
 
Enocha Ranjita

Enocha Ranjita has been a transformational healing artist in personal healing and spiritual empowerment for over 30 years. She is the owner of Your Hearts Home, a private retreat sanctuary in Sedona’s Oak Creek Canyon. Enocha introduces us to the “Three Aspects of Our True Power,” explaining how the power trinity got separated during early development, then taking us on a journey to remembering and reclaiming these aspects of our true power.
 
Tomas Winn

Tomas Winn’s passion is using music, biofeedback programs and gentle coaching to guide people toward the wisdom of their own heart. He provides individual coaching and biofeedback sessions to assist people in accessing and using the intelligence of their heart to change thoughts, feelings and behaviors. A longtime teacher and practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, Tomas has studied and taught music therapy techniques in India, Holland, Ireland and Switzerland.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival & Registration/Orientation & Introductions
(Sunday, March 15)
   
 Afternoon: On-site registration from 4:30 - 5:15 PM in hotel lobby or meeting room. Will just take a few minutes so come by any time between the stated time.
 Afternoon: Beginning at 5:30 PM is an orientation session to introduce participants and provide an in-depth program overview. Prepare for an adventurous week of learning and new friends!
 Dinner: Dinner on site at the hotel. Entrees will vary nightly and always include a vegetarian and gluten-free option for those that enroll as such.

Day 2: Ayurveda/Yoga/Meditation
(Monday, March 16)

Note: Today we have 4 classes, two of which are active for their cumulative 3.5 hour duration of Nomadics and Yoga.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Daily options to include: fresh fruit; eggs; breakfast meats; potatoes; French Toast; hot and cold cereals; assorted fruit juices; coffee; etc..
 Morning: We begin our morning with a class on "nomadics". Blending yoga and stretching, our Nomadics class will put you in touch with your body and help sharpen your focus for the weeks activities.

Following our Nomadics class, we will have a class entitled "in the moment" which will bring the class together to share their individual stories and help coalesce the group for the week ahead.
 Lunch: Lunch at the resort, serving contemporary, health-focused cuisine. Lunch choices include selections such as: Grilled Pizza with Roasted Tomatoes, Basil and Mozzarella; Roasted Vegetables, Hummus, Olive - Feta Spread and Tabouleh Salad; and Soup de Jour & Chopped Salad with house vinegarette, for example
 Afternoon: Following lunch, we will have a class on Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian Subcontinent and practiced in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine. Evolving throughout its history, Ayurveda remains an influential system of medicine in South Asia. Ayurveda is considered to be a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) within the western world, where several of its methods, such as the use of herbs, massage, and Yoga as exercise or alternative medicine, are applied on their own as a form of CAM treatment.

Our second class of the afternoon is a soft yoga and meditation class. Explore how meditation is used to bring peace, clarity, and focus to our lives through some practical exercises.
 Dinner: Dinner on-site at the resort.
 Evening: Tonight's workshop is titled: Wellness Coaching: Approaches to Balance and Vitality: This workshop will explore the powerful healing potential of herbal medicine. We will discuss herbs, foods and lifestyle approaches that enhance vitality, build our immune systems, and help us to create...and maintain...a healthy lifestyle.

Day 3: Jin Shin Jyutsu/Qi Gong/Sedona exploration
(Tuesday, March 17)

Note: Morning classes active while afternoon to be a short hike in a beautiful Sedona location. Trail to be mostly flat, hike is 1 - 2 miles but can be made shorter if you like as it it an "out and back" hike.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Daily options to include: fresh fruit; eggs; breakfast meats; potatoes; French Toast; hot and cold cereals; assorted fruit juices; coffee; etc.
 Morning: Our first morning class will be an introduction to Jin Shin Jyutsu. Jin Shin Jyutsu is the ancient art of harmonizing body, mind and spirit with gentle touch. It facilitates balance in the body's energy systems, which promotes health and well being. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an invaluable complement to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation, reducing the effects of stress, and assisting our innate healing capacity. Our second morning class will be an introduction to Qi Gong.
 Lunch: Today we will have a box lunch to enjoy outdoors during our field trip.
 Afternoon: Enjoy a short hike into Sedona's beautiful surroundings. We will address the myth and reality of the famed Sedona's vortex energy spots that are found throughout Sedona's red rock region. Hiking of approximately 2 miles with stops to discuss the flora surroundings and to soak up the scenery.
 Dinner: For tonight's dinner we will walk the short distance over to the Golf Club and eat at their restaurant where we can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding red rocks and beautiful layout of the golf course.
 Evening: Free time is scheduled. Do note that many of the personal art therapies are scheduled for free time blocks.

Day 4: Acupuncture, Chair Yoga, Homeopathy
(Wednesday, March 18)

Note: Today we have 1 active class of Nomadics.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Daily options to include: fresh fruit; eggs; breakfast meats; potatoes; French Toast; hot and cold cereals; assorted fruit juices; coffee; etc..
 Morning: Following breakfast is a presentation on the healing benefits and belief structure of acupuncture. Your Presenter, Ahna Bridenbaugh, is a licensed accupuncurist. She graduated Cum Laude in 1996 from Emperor's College of Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, CA. and has enjoyed her private practice in Sedona since then. She is board certified and AZ licensed Our second morning activity will a "chair yoga" class. Your instructor, Elena Bullard, is a full time Certified Instructor, and leads a Yoga teacher training and certification course at the Arizona School of Integrative Studies.
 Lunch: Lunch is served on the premises of the resort.
 Afternoon: Enjoy a discussion the practice of Homeopathy. Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine, first proposed by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, that treats patients with heavily diluted preparations which are claimed to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented. Gaining widespread use worldwide in the last few decades, Homeopathy is a valuable tool in your health treatment options.
 Dinner: Dinner on-site at the resort.
 Evening: Free time is scheduled. Do note that many of the personal art therapies are scheduled for free time blocks.

Day 5: Qi Gong/Art Therapy/free afternoon.
(Thursday, March 19)

Note: Free afternoon provides opportunity to explore the many trails and art shops of Sedona.

 Morning: After breakfast, we will enjoy our second Qi Gong session, building upon the foundations we learned earlier in the week.

The second half of the morning will be a presentation entitled "Art Therapy" . Here is a little information on your presenter Veronica Vida: Veronica brings 30 years of experience in women’s spirituality, facilitating sacred rituals and ceremony. Veronica has worked with women, children, and families in a variety of settings, as a midwife, teacher, and therapist. Her study and practice of astrology for 32 years has enhanced and deepened this work with others. Combining this rich experience with an MA in counseling psychology/expressive art therapy allows her to bring depth, insight, compassion and creativity to her work with individuals and groups
 Lunch: Lunch is served on the premises of the resort.
 Afternoon: Free time is scheduled. Do note that many of the personal art therapies are scheduled for free time blocks. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Sedona's many forest trails or fascinating shops and art galleries. 45 minute spa treatments will be scheduled for many of the people in the program during this afternoon.
 Dinner: Dinner on-site at the resort.
 Evening: Tonight's presentation will be a musical performance.

Day 6: Nomadics/Holistic Health/Program Conclusion
(Friday, March 20)

 Morning: End the week with a final Nomadics class and reflection on what we have learned in the course of the week. The program ends before the 11:00 AM checkout time.
