The mouthwatering cuisine of Italy and the captivating works of the American musical theatre are universally embraced for their power to engage and satisfy the senses. Feed your spirit and your body with this fast-paced romp along the famed Eastern Shore. Get a taste of Italy’s gastronomic culture through expert lectures and cooking demonstrations at exceptional local restaurants. Learn about viniculture at a local winery and matching foods with approachable wines from a local expert. Interwoven through the program are exciting lectures and concerts on memorable musicals created by the 20th-century giants of Broadway and Hollywood. All this against the backdrop of the beautiful Delmarva seashore!

• Through film clips, recordings, concerts, and lively lectures, hear fascinating, behind-the-scenes stories and get an inside look at one of America's greatest contributions to entertainment and world culture.
• Learn about the gastronomy of Italy and the influence of Italian cuisine in America through lectures and interactive cooking demonstrations that become memorable meals!
• Savor and learn about the art, history, and business of wine-making and wine-matching at a local vineyard and an inventive local wine merchant.



Activity Particulars

Participants must be able to climb a few stairs, stand for up to an hour, get on and off a motor coach easily and walk a few blocks indoors or out.

Glorious American Musical



Rehoboth Beach

Long ago, Native Americans came here during the summer for cool breezes and abundant seafood. Today, visitors from the D.C. area and beyond flock to Rehoboth Beach -- established as a seaside resort in 1891 -- to enjoy those same features, and to relax on sandy beaches and in beachfront cafes.

Lee Mussoff

A professor of English, drama and speech, Lee Mussoff is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., who has taught at the University of Pittsburgh, Wilmington College and for the Academy of Lifelong Learning. In addition to teaching, Lee has pursued acting, directing and writing in her professional career. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
 
Richard Smolens

Since retiring from Hunter College in 1991, Dr. Richard Smolens has combined his two great loves — teaching and singing — by lecturing and performing nationwide, and by introducing jazz to schoolchildren in Venice, Fla. He interprets songs that were created during the first half of the American 20th century, most notably the works of the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and more. Based in West Grove, Pa., Richard spends the winter months singing and teaching in Georgia and Florida.
 
Carolyn Aronson

Known locally as “Chef Bonnie,” Dr. Carolyn Aronson is a certified executive chef from the American Culinary Federation, as well as a certified NRA ServSafe instructor and proctor. She shares her culinary expertise as a teacher at Wor-Wic Community College, Wilmington University, and Sussex Technical High School. The recipient of numerous culinary awards, Dr. Aronson also received her pastoral counseling degree from Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary, where she is currently the dean.

 Evening: Learn about the Foods and Wines in the different regions of Italy. Lecture given by a professor at the local college.

 Morning: Local Chef will demo Italian starts to a meal. Taste antipasto and crostini.

 Afternoon: Wines of Italy! Wine tasting and discussion of the italian influence. Trip to a local winery.
 Dinner: Local Italian Restaurant
 Evening: Lively interaction, discussion and dvd's of the best of the 20th Century's favorite musicals - and their history.
