Take your watercolor painting to the next level, joining nationally known artist Nancy Ellen Thompson for encouraging instruction in the techniques of watercolor. Whether you are new to the medium or an experienced painter, be assured that you will discover a new — or renewed — passion for watercolor painting in the settings of natural beauty.

With beaches on the Chesapeake and Delaware bays, the Delaware and Elk rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean, the Eastern Shore of Delaware and Maryland is an outpost of Southern culture in the mid-Atlantic region. The Delmarva Peninsula is home to pristine beaches, Assateague Island National Seashore and charming, picturesque coastal communities like Ocean City, Md. and Lewes, Del.

Nancy Thompson

Nancy has always enjoyed the immediacy and excitement of sketching, journaling and watercolor. Teaching students of all levels for more than 20 years with patience and encouragement, her goal is to help students achieve their own personal style. Her works are in public and private collections worldwide. She has been featured on Maryland Public Television and in Southern Living. Nancy divides her time between her studio in Snow Hill and her home in Solomons, Md.

Driving Directions
  Philadelphia/Charlotte/DC National Airports Fly into the Philadelphia, Charlotte or DC National Airports and transfer to commuter flight to Wicomico-Ocean City Regional Airport in Salisbury, MD. Or travel south directly from Philadelphia Airport.
  To Hyatt Place from NORTH I-95 south to Exit 4-A to Rt. 1 (Christiana) South to Dover, DE. Continue south. After Milford, DE follow Rt. 1 south/shore points approx. 23-24 miles to Dewey Beach. Hyatt Place will be on your right on the corner of Rt 1 and Dickinson St.
  To Hyatt Place from WEST Rt. 50 east to Rt. 404 to Georgetown, DE. At Georgetown Circle, take Rt. 9 east to Rt. 1. South on Route 1 for approximately 6 miles to Dewey Beach. Hyatt Place will be on your right on the corner of Rt 1 and Dickinson St.
  To Hyatt Place from the SOUTH From Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, follow Rt. 13 North. At Pocomoke, MD bear right onto Route 113 North to Millsboro, DE. At Millsboro take Route 24 east (towards Rehoboth Beach) to Route 1, turn south on Route 1 to Dewey Beach. Hyatt Place will be on your right on the corner of Rt 1 and Dickinson St.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Orientation
(Sunday, October 19)
   
 Afternoon: Upon arrival, check in and pick up your room key. At 4:30 there will be a welcome and introductions in the Meeting Room, where you get your schedule for the week.
 Dinner: On-site Coordinator will lead you to dinner at the hotel
 Evening: Program in the evening for instructor to give preview of the week and watercolor demo.

Day 2: Instruction/Painting/Lecture
(Monday, October 20)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the Atrium is available 6:30-9:00
 Morning: Popular artist/instructor Nancy Carver Thompson will explore contrast values of light and dark in a still life painting.
 Lunch: Lunch served in the Atrium
 Afternoon: Participants will paint with guidance of instructor.
 Dinner: Dinner from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at hotel.
 Evening: Following dinner the artist will lecture on non traditional painting approaches with watercolor.

Day 3: Instruction/Painting
(Tuesday, October 21)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast available in the Atrium from 6:30-9:00am
 Morning: Instructor will explore contrast colors and focus to build atmospheric perspective in a landscape.
 Lunch: Lunch served in the Atrium
 Afternoon: Participants will paint with guidance of instructor.
 Dinner: Dinner from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at hotel.
 Evening: Following dinner participants will return to painting selections of instructor.

Day 4: Instruction/Field trip or "Free Time"/Painting
(Wednesday, October 22)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast available in the Atrium from 6:30-9:00am
 Morning: Artist will focus on contrast soft and hard edges and lines for expressive paintings.
 Lunch: Lunch served in the Atrium
 Afternoon: Free afternoon for sightseeing, shopping, or painting on your own.
 Dinner: Dinner is on your own during independent time
 Evening: Free Time or paint on your own.

Day 5: Painting/Art Show and Discussion
(Thursday, October 23)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast available from 6:30-9:00am in the Atrium
 Morning: Explore with use of contrast detail and glazing in a floral painting.
 Lunch: Lunch served in the Atrium
 Afternoon: Capture, on paper, the painting techniques explored thoughout the week.
 Dinner: Dinner from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at hotel.
 Evening: To culminate the weeks work, an informal Art Show and Discussion of participants works will be held in the form of an exhibit.
