What do horses, sharks and clowns have in common? Together, they’re a great reason to explore the Cincinnati area with your grandchild! At a local horse farm, learn about caring for, grooming, and training horses before enjoying an exclusive riding lesson for kids. Encounter sharks, penguins, jellyfish and more at the Newport Aquarium, where thousands of animals from around the world inhabit a million gallons of water. Enjoy a few laughs as a professional clown from Ringling Brothers shares tips and techniques for entertaining in the circus. Take field trips to a state-of-the-art model train museum and the World Peace Bell, and get an amphibious view of the city via duck boat.

The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. To participate in your Road Scholar program, you are required to complete the Participant Information Form, which includes your health and safety information, lodging and meal preferences, and more. Please either complete and submit this online form or complete and mail back to your Program Provider a hard-copy version of the form included in your Preliminary Information Packet. Participants are also required to sign a University of Texas-mandated Release and Indemnification Agreement.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Road Scholar Registration, Welcome, Orientation and Dinner
(Sunday, June 22)
   
 Afternoon: Check-in at hotel at 3:00PM. Road Scholar orientation session in the hotel conference room at 4:30PM. Start your Cincinnati Intergenerational experience with an informative overview of the week to come, and a chance to meet our staff and your fellow participants. Pick up your folder which contains the updated schedule of program activities, meals, suggested sites to visit during your stay, your name badge, and a map of the Cincinnati area. The coordinator will provide contact names and phone numbers of program leaders, define responsibilities of the hotel, and mention safety guidelines and emergency procedures. The coordinator will orient you to the hotel location on maps, and discuss program details. Breakfast is at the hotel each day, lunches and dinners at restaurants around town. The coordinator will facilitate a meet-and-greet experience for the entire group. Late arriving attendees can pick up their packets at the hotel front desk.
 Dinner: Welcome dinner, with multiple entrée choices, at popular restaurant allows time to become acquainted with your fellow attendees and program staff.
 Evening: What better way to begin your week of fun than with some circus mojo? A former Ringling Brothers clown will lead an interactive lesson for grandparents and grandchildren, teaching clowning skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Day 2: Circus Mojo Clown School
(Monday, June 23)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast served at the hotel.
 Morning: School in the summer? Clown school is so fun, you won't mind going back to school in June. The former Ringling Brothers clown returns to continue demonstrating and teaching skills used in the circus and for entertaining groups. A morning of fun and laughter is in store for all.
 Lunch: Lunch at the Clown School.
 Afternoon: Continue your day at the Clown School with culminating activities. Circus Mojo classes and workshops teach juggling, hat tricks, partner acrobatics, plate spinning, theatrical clowning, and ball, stilt, and tight-wire walking. Instructors cater to the personal needs and talents of their students, bolstering and spotlighting everyone's unique mojo. Students gain respect for themselves and each other as they develop skills as individuals and as an ensemble. At the end of each class series, students experience the creative process of producing and performing in their own Circus Mojo Show.
 Dinner: Enjoy a beautiful view of the Ohio River at a local restaurant with multiple entrees.

Day 3: Newport Aquarium and Ride the DucksEntertrainment
(Tuesday, June 24)

Note: Must be able to board a shuttle bus.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast served at the hotel.
 Morning: Transport to Newport to explore the Newport Aquarium. The Newport Aquarium is an aquarium located in Newport, Kentucky at Newport on the Levee. The aquarium has 70 exhibits and 14 galleries, including five seamless acrylic tunnels totaling over 200 feet in length. Discover the oceans' depths, the rivers’ edge, and the fringe of the Antarctic Frontier. Specially designed underwater tunnels will bring you face-to-face with sharks and other marine life. Exciting exhibits and larger-than-life murals will take you on an up-close encounter with the world's most beautiful, bizarre and dangerous creatures.
 Lunch: Lunch at Aquarium.
 Afternoon: Enjoy a Ride The Ducks cruise experience. The boat's Captain leads you through Greater Cincinnati's streets with a splash into the Ohio River as you learn about Newport and Ohio history, the Ohio River, its famous personalities and its impact on the state and our nation.
 Dinner: Dinner on your own around Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky area.

Day 4: Cincinnati Riding Stables/Hands-On Horse Experience and Riding Lesson for Grandchildren/Entertrainment
(Wednesday, June 25)

Note: Must be able to board private motorcoach. Grandchlidren will receive horseback riding lesson and participate in riding demonstration.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast served at the hotel.
 Morning: Get up close and personal with horses as you explore a near-by Riding Stables with its owners. The Center is a 30 acre full care and partial care boarding facility. Your activities will include an introduction to farm rules, a barn tour, horse safety and equine care, grooming and tacking, and a riding demonstration. Grandparents and grandchildren will have an opportunity to groom and feed horses together.
 Lunch: Lunch at the Horse Farm.
 Afternoon: Continue interacting at the horse farm as grandchildren enjoy horseback riding lessons. Next add to your fun-filled adventure with a visit to one of the largest model train exhibits in the world. Entertrainment, recently named Ohio's Best Family Entertainment venue, features over 25,000 square feet of model trains. Also included are a train museum and an interactive play area- there is something for everyone! Enjoy the elaborate miniature train displays and learn about the role of railroads in the development of the country.
 Dinner: Dinner at a scenic restaurant in Eden Park.

Day 5: Behringer Crawford Museum/World Peace Bell/Free Afternoon to Explore and Cincinnati
(Thursday, June 26)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast served at the hotel.
 Morning: Discover what the area was like thousands of years ago through a presentation about the Ice Age from a staff member of the Behringer-Crawford Museum. Encounter another one of Cincinnati's unique attractions with a visit to the World Peace Bell. The bell, which commemorates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is larger than the Liberty Bell and is one of the more than 20 peace bells located around the world.
 Lunch: Lunch in a unique Cincinnati restaurant.
 Afternoon: Afternoon on your own to explore the many tourist attractions of Cincinnati such Fountain Square, Grater's Ice Cream, Carew Tower, Taft Art Museum, and Freedom Underground Railroad Center.
 Dinner: Dinner catered at hotel.
 Evening: Attend a concert performed by The Hills of Kentucky Dulcimer Society. Sing and dance along with some old favorites, hear some unusual music, learn about the instrument, and take a quick lesson.
