A Revolutionary War officer, pioneer, explorer, frontiersman and trailblazer, Daniel Boone was one of the first great American folk heroes. Bring an adventurous grandchild along to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the state Boone settled, to follow in his footsteps, hear tales of his exploits and practice the outdoor skills he used to survive in the uncharted territory of the rugged American frontier.

Highlights

• Based in beautiful Cumberland Falls State Park, head outdoors to take part in archery, rock climbing, canoeing and Class III whitewater rafting.
• Evening activities include a first-person meeting with a historical interpreter of Daniel Boone and an “owl prowl” in the woods.
• Learn how to pack for a backpacking weekend using the “Leave No Trace” ethic and study the environmental geology of the Cumberland Plateau.

Activity Particulars

Walking up to 1.5 miles per day on uneven, sometimes steep terrain.

Coordinated by Cumberland Falls State Resort Park.

Corbin

A tiny town in southeastern Kentucky that grew up around the railroads, Corbin was home to Colonel Sanders who started his fried chicken business out of a local service station. Cumberland Falls State Park is 20 minutes south of the town and is known for the moonbows over its waterfalls, a relatively faint version of a rainbow only seen at night.
