C.S. Lewis: Screw Tape Letters

Examine this extraordinary Oxford don whose philosophy, theology and high imagination continue to stir the minds of young and old. We will examine his work “Screw Tape Letters" as well as take a brief look at influences on some of his other books and life experiences.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check in begins at 4:00 pm Sunday afternoon.
(Saturday, May 10)
   
 Arrive To: Michindoh Conference Center 4545 E. Bacon Rd Hillsdale, MI 49242
 Dinner: After arriving on the beautiful campus of Michindoh Conference Center, you will enjoy your first meal with our other guests in the scenic Atrium Dining Room. Several buffet entre's availalbe including salad bar, juice bar, and dessert.
 Evening: Our week will open with a wonderful evening of piano music and dessert. We'll begin our time by enjoying the beautiful piano performance of Renee Runyon, music instructor at Spring Arbor University. Enjoy the candle lit atmosphere, and relax after a day of travel.

Day 2: C.S. Lewis: "Screw Tape Letters", Favorite Hyms from yesterday, and Matt Walch, Big Band Vocalist!
(Sunday, May 11)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast will be served in the Atrium Dining room. Please make sure we are aware of any dietary restrictions or needs you may have. Our desire is that you are comfortable during every aspect of your stay with us.
 Morning: Morning Session: This morning's session will look at some of our best loved Hymns! So much of church music has changed toward a more contemporary feel. We'll revisit some of the old favorites! Instructor: Karl Schmidt, vocal instructor and professor at Hillsdale College.
 Lunch: Lunch will be served in the beautiful Atrium dining room. Please let us know if you need any assistance. All lunch meals include a fresh salad bar, juice bar, main entrées and a sweet.
 Afternoon: Afternoon Session: Screw Tape Letters, A presentation/discussion/lecture on the content of the book. It will be helpful for you to have some familiarity with the text. Instructor: Dr. Michael Bauman, from Hillsdale College.
 Dinner: Dinner will again be served in the Atrium dining room. Fresh salad bar, main entrées, juice bar and desserts will be available. Please communicate to us any dietary needs you may have so that we can ensure your needs are well met.
 Evening: Tonight will present a fun vocal concert by Big Band Singer, Matt Walch. This is a fun presentation of some of the favorites from the time period we are covering. You'll tap your feet and maybe even sing a long!

Day 3: Musical Theater, C.S. Lewis's work "The Problem of Pain," and Campus Tour
(Monday, May 12)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy light or heavier breakfast meal options in our beautiful Atrium dining area. You will enjoy the fresh fruit each morning along with the many other entrées offered.
 Morning: Our morning session will look at Musical Theater, with presenter, Karl Schmidt!
 Lunch: Your lunch will again be enjoyed in the Atrium dining room. By this time, you will be aware of the need to pace yourself with the plentiful menu options available to you while with us!
 Afternoon: This afternoon will present a look at another of C.S. Lewis's works, "The Problem of Pain." Dr. Michael Bauman will be with us again to facilitate our time together.
 Dinner: Dinner in the Atrium dining room. Please don't hesitate to communicate any dietary needs that may have arisen during the week.
 Evening: You'll have an opportunity to ride in Michindoh's Trolley car as we take a trip around our beautiful 250 acre campus! In addition, you'll have an opportunity to visit Michindoh's Nature Center, where you have the OPTION of touching and holding reptiles and amphibians. Don't worry, all animals are people friendly and you can enjoy this time together without having the need to hold or touch if you prefer :o)

Day 4: Films, Jazz, and an incredible concert at Hillsdale College.
(Tuesday, May 13)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the Atrium dining room. Coffee will be available each morning by 6:30 am. In addition, you are always welcome to get a fresh cup of coffee from the Atrium whether mid day or middle of the night.
 Morning: This morning's session will take a look at Films from our time period. Lecture format, music, video and overhead will accompany this session! You will enjoy seeing and hearing some of your favorites from this time period!
 Lunch: Lunch will again be served in the Atrium dining room.
 Afternoon: We'll be traveling a short distance to Hillsdale College where you will enjoy a wonderful, close and personal concert by several of Hillsdale College's finest musicians! .
 Dinner: If you haven't had an opportunity to walk around our beautiful Weatherwood Lake, try and get out to do so before dinner this afternoon. Dinner will be served in the Atrium dining room.
 Evening: This evening we'll take a look at Jazz from the 30's - 50"s. This should be a fun session filled with video clips, music clips, and even a personal trumpet performance by our session leader, Chris Courry. Chris teaches music at Hillsdale College.

Day 5: Musical Production and Dinner Theater at Cornwell's Turkeyville, U.S.A.
(Wednesday, May 14)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the Atrium dining room. Coffee will be available each morning by 6:30 am. In addition, you are always welcome to get a fresh cup of coffee from the Atrium whether mid day or middle of the night.
 Morning: We will depart for a day of dining and musical theatre. Cornwell's Turkeyville U.S.A presents "Boogie-Woogie Swingtime" a pop musical presentation from our favorite era. You are sure to enjoy this exciting and uplifting musical presentation!
 Lunch: Our lunch dining will take place at Turkeyville, U.S.A. and will offer a full meal: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, salad, and pie! You are sure to enjoy this wonderful meal and experience!
 Afternoon: "Boogie-Woogie Swing-time" A musical comedy tribute to our military forces of today and yesterday. Songs like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Star Spangled Banner, Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Sentimental Journey and many, many, more. You'll be standing on your feet as everyone salutes Swing-time!
 Dinner: After a brief rest from our exciting field trip, dinner will be served in the Atrium dining room. Leave room for our desert and music social following!
 Evening: After our long day out, we'll simply enjoy a movie presentation in house.

Day 6: Hollywood Musicals and Check-out.
(Thursday, May 15)
   
 Breakfast: Our final breakfast together will be served in the Atrium dining room.
 Morning: Our final session together will be a look at Hollywood Musicals. Again, we'll enjoy video and sound clips from some of our favorite Hollywood Musicals from this time period. You won't want to miss our final session together! Please try and plan travel departure after this enjoyable session together.
 Lunch: The last meal to be served will be lunch. Please check out of your rooms immediately after lunch!
