Hang ten and blast off! Discover the wonders and hidden treasures of Florida’s beautiful Space Coast as you learn about America’s space program at the amazing Kennedy Space Center. Get into the environment, learn about the challenges of wildlife conservation in our era of climate change, and top it off with surf lessons where the instructors will have you up on a board before you know it!

• Take an airboat ride on the St. Johns River, and work in teams using a seine net to catch fish, plants and invertebrates in the Indian River Lagoon.

Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River Lagoon, about an hour east of Orlando, Cocoa Beach is at the center of Florida’s “Space Coast” where the highest technology peacefully coexists with beautiful beaches and natural wilderness.

Driving Directions
  Best Western Cocoa Beach - from I-95 From I-95 take the exit for SR 528 East to Port Canaveral. At Port Canaveral the road will turn south and change to SR A1A. The hotel is 7 miles south of Port Canaveral on the left-hand side.
  Best Western Cocoa Beach - from Orlando Airport Travel east on the Beachline (528) approx 45 miles. The road will bear to the south and is now N. Atlantic Ave. (A1A). Travel south 3 miles and we are located on the left side of the road.
Equipment Requirements: Please bring closed toed water shoes for the seining part of this program. You must have them to be able to participate in this. Please bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, bug spray, and be ready to have a ton of fun! If you are a bird lover make sure and bring your binoculars and never forget your cameras.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Registration/Introductions and Orientation
(Sunday, July 27)
   
 Afternoon: REGISTRATION will begin at.4:00 pm. This will be followed by a get acquainted session and dinner. After dinner there will be an orientation session where you will receive your schedule and other pertinent information for the week to follow. We will answer any questions you may have.
 Dinner: Dinner - location TBA
 Evening: ORIENTATION will begin after dinner. In orientation we will go over the schedule, answer any questions and get ready for a truly wonderful week! The evening is yours to relax, settle in and have fun!

Day 2: Kennedy Space Center, Space Shuttle Experience, IMAX movie, lunch with an Astronaut
(Monday, July 28)

Note: Don't forget to go to Customer service and get your annual pass/picture.



   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: Guided through to the exciting adventures. Start off with the Atlantis exhibit which includes the shuttle launch experience. This is an amazing new addition to Kennedy Space Center.
 Lunch: Lunch with an Astronaut www.kennedyspacecenter.com/lunch-with-an-astronaut.aspx There is a different astronaut each time... so you never know which one will be joining us but they are all terrific and very interesting. There will be photo opportunities.
 Afternoon: Our Kennedy Space Center field trip continues a trip to the Apollo/Saturn V Center. www.kennedyspacecenter.com/apollo-saturn-v-center.aspx This is a self guided trip through the Saturn V.
 Dinner: Dinner - Location - TBA
 Evening: The Surfside room will be open to enjoy social time, watch a movie, or just relax. The pool will be open as well. Please remember a grandparent must be with their grandchild at all times.

Day 3: Visit Jungle Adventures and then experience an airboat ride.
(Tuesday, July 29)
   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: FIELD TRIP: Jungle Adventures, Florida's first animal park. This natural rustic habitat is the home of wildlife including rare Florida panthers, black bears, gray wolves, white-tailed deer and other mammals, tropical birds, and reptiles including what is claimed to be the world's largest alligator. In addition to wildlife observation — including the feeding of 200 ’gators! — you will see how Spanish Conquistadores and Native Americans lived in replicas of a Native American village and a 16th-Century Spanish fort.
 Lunch: Enjoy a picnic style lunch at Jungle Adventure.
 Afternoon: FIELD TRIP: The St. Johns River by Airboat. Aboard state-of-the-art airboats, explore the Central Florida's St. John’s River, a natural paradise of abundant flora and fauna. Depending on local circumstances at the time of the program, you will have an opportunity to see alligators, bald eagles, otters, blue herons, and much more. You will also have 2 way communication with the captain as you are on the boat. He will point out anything and everything he sees while taking us down the beautiful river.
 Dinner: Dinner location - TBA
 Evening: The Surfside room will be open to enjoy social time, watch a movie, or just relax. The pool will be open as well. Please remember a grandparent must be with their grandchild at all times

Day 4: Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (seining), Dixie Cross Roads (lunch), and then return to Kennedy Space Center with your annual pass to experience anything you may have missed on the first day.
(Wednesday, July 30)
   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: Field trip to explore the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge for your seining adventure. You must have closed toed water shoes to participate in this activity. Environmental education is one of the primary objectives of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Merritt Island NWR offers seven distinct habitat types and more than 500 species of wildlife make the refuge their home. It is a premier area for viewing wildlife, habitat diversity and natural processes. The refuge has a visitor center, five hiking trails, two wildlife drives, two observation towers, and a manatee observation deck. Seining & Water Quality of the Lagoon Students work in small groups with an adult chaperone using a seine net to capture animal species found in the Indian River Lagoon. Captured animals are studied, identified and placed back in the lagoon. Basic water quality tests are conducted to teach the students about water monitoring and threats to the health of the lagoon. The program takes place at the lagoon shore line at the Sendler Education Outpost Pavilion. The pavilion is equipped with running water, picnic tables and restrooms.
 Lunch: Lunch will be at Dixie Cross Roads Restaurant. "Uniquely Florida... just what you're looking for great seafood, steaks, and so much more." Don't forget to try the famous Rock Shrimp.
 Afternoon: Return to Kennedy Space Center with your annual pass to experience the things you might have missed on Monday. Don't forget to catch the IMAX movies while you are there.
 Dinner: Dinner location - TBA
 Evening: Enjoy the movie "Apollo 13"

Day 5: LEARN TO SURF!!! Local musician for evening entertainment.
(Thursday, July 31)

Note: Please remember to bring your water, sunscreen, and hats outside while you either participate in the surf lessons, take pictures of your loved ones learning or just relaxing in the Florida sun.



   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: This morning, you will have 2 hours of surfing instruction by professionals from the Florida Surf School. By the end you will be amazed at how well you are doing. From the young to the young at heart learn how to surf. It is going to be an amazing experience.  Lunch: Lunch will be at the hotel - we will be having a pool party to start your free afternoon off.
 Afternoon: This is your free time to check out the Cocoa Beach area, enjoy the beach or pool, return to Kennedy Space Center (on your own), or just relax.

 Evening: Local/Florida Music by Chris Kahl.

Day 6: Enjoy a leisurely trip down the river and spot dolphins and manatees. The Captain of the boat will point things out to you along the way.
(Friday, August 1)
   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: We'll have a guided field trip aboard special pontoon boats allow for an opportunity to closely connect with the natural resources of Canaveral National Seashore. The Lagoon's big mammals (dolphin and manatee) always brings smiles and excitement to the tour when you can spot them.
 Lunch: Lunch will be served at the hotel. After lunch will be our informal graduation and wrap up of the program. We thank you for visiting and hope you have a safe trip home. Come back and see us soon!
