Join your grandchild on an adventure exploring the fascinating natural environments of the Green Mountain State. Hike through pristine forests, discover wildlife in a clear, fast-flowing river, observe rare birds up close and much more. Complete the adventure with storytelling performances, a picnic in a picturesque meadow and a performance by your grandchild of a nature-based drama, directed by an experienced professional leader in children's theater.




Highlights

• Hike the grounds of the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, where you experience hawks, vultures, ravens, owls, bald eagles and a live bird program by presented by VINS trainers and ornithologists.
• Go hiking on Mount Tom in Woodstock, Vt., then cool off with a late-afternoon wade in the White River.
• Navigate the White River by inner tube and the Connecticut River by canoe.

Named for its location as the meeting place of the White and Connecticut rivers, as well as the area’s railroad lines, this town on New Hampshire’s border boasts well-preserved, rural traditions and homesteads, as well as rich ecological diversity.

Driving Directions
  From the East (Boston and Manchester airport) Take Interstate 93 North to Interstate 89 west. Continue until you cross the Connecticut River into Vermont. Get off immediately at first exit, White River Junction, Interstate 91 North. Keep right as you join Interstate 91 and get off immediately at Exit 11, White River Junction. Continue straight through first traffic lights. Go down hill 1/2 mile and straight through second traffic lights, following sign to White River Junction. Continue 1/4 mile to dead end and turn right. Hotel Coolidge is on your right.
  From the North (Burlington VT) Take Interstate 89 South. Get off at the Interstate 91 interchange just before you go into New Hampshire. Follow signs and keep left for Interstate 91 North. Then keep right as you join Interstate 91. Get get off immediately at Exit 11, White River Junction. Continue straight through first traffic lights. Go down hill 1/2 mile and straight through second traffic lights, following sign to White River Junction. Continue 1/4 mile to dead end and turn right. Hotel Coolidge is on your right.
  From the South Take Interstate 91 North into Vermont. Get off at Exit 11, White River Junction. Continue straight through first traffic lights. Go down hill 1/2 mile and straight through second traffic lights, following sign to White River Junction. Continue 1/4 mile to dead end and turn right. Hotel Coolidge is on your right.
  From the west Take Route 4 east through Vermont. When you reach White River Junction village, continue straight through traffic lights instead of turning left over bridge, following sign to White River Junction. Continue 1/4 mile to dead end and turn right. Hotel Coolidge is on your right.

Day 1: 4-6pm arrival and registration in the hotel lobby. 6:30pm dinner and orientation

 Dinner: 6:30 pm - dinner in the Hotel Dining Room
 Evening: Orientation in hotel dining room.

Day 2: Visit to VINS in Quechee, VT. Evening storytelling program.
(Monday, July 14)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room
 Morning: Field trip by bus to Vermont Institute of Natural Science. Hike the grounds, see cool rare birds such as hawks, vultures, ravens, owls, and bald eagles. Enjoy a live bird program with VINS trainers and ornithologists.
 Lunch: Bag lunch on location at Vermont Institute of Natural Science.
 Afternoon: Live bird programs and hike to Quechee Gorge. Wade in the White River in the late afternoon.
 Dinner: Dinner in hotel dining room.
 Evening: Storytelling performance at the hotel.

Day 3: Children's drama activity. Aquatic Ecosystem study. Evening nature program.

 Morning: Children's drama activity and rehearsal at the hotel. Field trip to the nearby Ottauquechee River to study river life.
 Lunch: Picnic lunch at Billings Farm and Museum.
 Afternoon: Hike on Mt. Tom in Woodstock, Vermont. Late afternoon wade in the White River.
 Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room.
 Evening: Nature program on bears at the hotel.

Day 4: Children's drama activity Montshire Museum Evening program
(Wednesday, July 16)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room.
 Morning: Children's drama activity and rehearsal. Field trip to the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT.
 Lunch: Lunch in the hotel dining room.
 Afternoon: Tubing on the White River, then the rest of the afternoon is free time.
 Dinner: Dinner at the hotel.
 Evening: Nature program on moose at the hotel.

Day 5: Children's drama activity and rehearsal. Canoe trip on the Connecticut River. Cookout dinner.
(Thursday, July 17)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room.
 Morning: Children's drama rehearsal at the hotel. Canoeing on the Connecticut River.
 Lunch: Picnic lunch in a park by the river.
 Afternoon: Finish canoeing, then back to the hotel by bus.
 Dinner: Evening cookout in a picturesque meadow up in the hills.

Day 6: Children's drama performance for their grandparents.
