Take your watercolor painting to the next level, joining nationally known artist Nancy Ellen Thompson for encouraging instruction in the techniques of watercolor. Whether you are new to the medium or an experienced painter, be assured that you will discover a new — or renewed — passion for watercolor painting in the settings of natural beauty.

Nancy Thompson

Nancy has always enjoyed the immediacy and excitement of sketching, journaling and watercolor. Teaching students of all levels for more than 20 years with patience and encouragement, her goal is to help students achieve their own personal style. Her works are in public and private collections worldwide. She has been featured on Maryland Public Television and in Southern Living. Nancy divides her time between her studio in Snow Hill and her home in Solomons, Md.

Driving Directions
  To the Clarion From Baltimore/Washington DC Take Rt 50 over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Stay on Rt 50 east to Route 90 east into Ocean City (coming over the Rt 90 Bridge). Turn Left onto Coastal Highway at the light and proceed to 101st St to the Clarion Resort, Oceanside
  To the Clarion From NY/NJ Via Cape May/Lewes Ferrry Take New Jersey Turnpike to Garden State Parkway to Route 109 Cape May/Lewes Ferry in Cape May NJ. From Lewes, DE take Route 1 south to Rehoboth/Lewes area. Continue on Route 1 through Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island, DE. Route 1 enters Ocean City and becomes Coastal Highway at 146th Street. The Clarionis on 101st Street Oceanside.
  To the Clarion From New England Area From the New England States, Take I-95 South, to the New Jersey Turnpike, and the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I-95 south to Exit 4-A to Route 1 (Christiana) South to Dover DE. Continue South. Approaching Milford DE follow Route 1 south /shore points. Follow Route One through Dewey, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island DE. Route One enters Ocean City at 146th St. The Clarion is on 101st St Oceanside.
  To the Clarion From New York Take I-81 south, through New York, to Harrisburg take I-83 south to the Rt 695 Beltway around Baltimore MD. Take Rt 695 to Rt 97 south to Annapolis MD. Follow signs for Bay Bridge to Rt 50 east. Take Rt 50 east to Rt 90 east, into Ocean City at 62nd St and turn left and proceed north to The Clarion on 101st St Oceanside.
  To the Clarion From Norfolk VA From Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, follow Rt 13 North. At Pocomoke City, MD bear right onto Route 113 north to Rt 90 east into Ocean City(coming over the Rt 90 bridge). Turn left onto Coastal Highway at the light and proceed north to 101st St to the Clarion, Oceanside.
  To the Clarion From Philadelphia/Charlotte Airport Fly into the Philadelphia or Charlotte International Airport and transfer to a commuter flight to Salisbury Wicomico-Ocean City Regional Airport in Salisbury MD. Call US Airways Charter Services at 800-428-4322 to make reservations and for current schedule, or call Salisbury-Ocean City Regional Airport directly at 410-548-4827.
  To the Clarion From the Great Lakes Region Take I-70 east to the Baltimore MD area. From I-70, take the Rt 695 Beltway southeast to the Glen Burnie area, and Rt 97 south. Take Rt97 south to Rt 50 east (Annapolis and Bay Bridge). Take Rt 50 east to Rt 90 east into Ocean City (coming over the Rt 90 bridge). Turn Left onto Coastal Highway at the light and proceed to 101st St to the Clarion, Oceanside.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival, Check-in, & Get Acquainted
(Sunday, March 30)
   
 Afternoon: Arrive and check in to the hotel. Please meet in the conference room after settling in for 4pm orientation. This will be an informative overview of the program and a chance to meet your fellow participants. Please feel free to ask any questions. If you arrive late please pick up your packet at the front desk.
 Dinner: Wonderful catered dinner at the hotel.
 Evening: Instructor, Nancy Thompson, will have evening instruction and demo at the hotel.

Day 2: Instruction/Painting/Lecture
(Monday, March 31)
   
 Breakfast: Delicious breakfast served at the hotel from 7:30-8:30am..
 Morning: Popular artist/instructor Nancy Thompson will explore contrast values of light and dark in a still life painting.
 Lunch: Meet group for lunch.
 Afternoon: Hands on painting with wonderful guidance from Nancy Thompson.
 Dinner: Dinner in Hotel dining room.
 Evening: Following dinner the artist will lecture on non traditional painting approaches with watercolor.

Day 3: Instruction/Painting
(Tuesday, April 1)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast from 7:30am - 8:30am.
 Morning: Explore contrast colors and focus. Build atmospheric perspective in a landscape.
 Lunch: Lunch in Hotel Dining Room.
 Afternoon: Participants will paint with guidance of instructor.
 Dinner: Dinner in Hotel Dining Room.
 Evening: Additional time with Nancy Thompson creating your painting.

Day 4: Instruction/Field trip or "Free Time"/Painting
(Wednesday, April 2)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast from 7:30am - 8:30am.
 Morning: Artist will focus on contrast soft and hard edges and lines for expressive paintings.
 Afternoon: Free afternoon for sightseeing, shopping, or painting on your own this beautiful seaside resort.
 Dinner: Dinner at Hotel.
 Evening: Free Time or paint on your own.

Day 5: Painting/Art Show and Discussion
(Thursday, April 3)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast from 7:30am - 8:30am.
 Morning: Explore with use of contrast detail and glazing in a floral painting.
 Lunch: Lunch in Hotel Dining Room.
 Afternoon: Capture, on paper, the painting techniques explored thoughout the week.
 Dinner: Dinner in Hotel Dining Room.
 Evening: To culminate the weeks work, an informal Art Show and Discussion of participants works will be held in the form of an exhibit..

Day 6: Instruction/Departure after checkout at 11:00 a.m.
