If you love to ski, this is your chance to experience America’s winter Mecca: Aspen/Snowmass. With 90 trails — half intermediate — and 23 lifts, Snowmass will serve as your primary ski mountain, with possible opportunities to ski Aspen’s other mountains. Whether you like the steep stuff, bumps, trees or wide-open cruisers, there are plentiful runs to satisfy the whims and skills of every type of skier.




Highlights

• Walk to the lifts from a slope-side hotel and enjoy four full-day lift tickets.
• Top guides from the region lead small groups of 8-10 skiers on the best runs of these world-class mountains.
• Slopeside and in the evening, enjoy lectures on regional geology and colorful local history.

Aspen

Situated in a mountain valley at the headwaters of the Roaring Fork River, the former mining town of Aspen is a renowned year-round resort offering magnificent natural beauty, spectacular winter skiing and a variety of performing and visual arts.

Road Scholar Instructors
These instructors are participating on at least one date of this program. Please note that changes may occur.
Gary Israelson

Gary Israelson has been leading Road Scholar skiing, bicycling and hiking trips for the last 10 years, including 25 skiing trips in Colorado. He has been carving turns on the mountain slopes for more than 55 years and is a past member of the National Ski Patrol and the Professional Ski Instructor Association.
 
Michael Fosdick

Michael is a former high school teacher who retired with his wife Martha to Steamboat Springs in the 1990s. An expert skier and a professional member of the Ski Patrol at the Steamboat Ski Area, Mike has led Road Scholar ski programs for 10 years in Steamboat, Snowmass, and Winter Park.

  Start of Program:
Hotel check-in is between 3 - 5 PM. Orientation at 5 PM followed by dinner. You will be staying at The Stonebridge Inn that night.

Program ends after breakfast. Check out by 10 AM. You will be staying at The Stonebridge Inn the night before.
  Required documents:
The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. Acknowledgement of Risk Form, Ski Ability Questionnaire both attached and to be mailed back to the Mountains and Plains Institute office.

Gateway airports are Denver International Airport (DEN), Eagle County Airport (EGE), Aspen Pitkin County Airport (ASE). Colorado Mountain Express ground shuttle (reservations 800-525-6363) is available from DEN and EGE to the Stonebridge Inn-RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. If flying into Aspen ASE, complimentary shuttle service from Aspen Airport to the Stonebridge Inn is provided by calling the hotel upon arrival from phones in baggage claim at 970-923-2420 to request a bell staff member pick you up

 
Driving Directions
  Snowmass Village from East or West-Interstate 70 Follow I-70 west or east to exit 116 in Glenwood Springs, take Exit 116, to Hwy 82. Follow the signs for Snowmass Village/Snowmass Ski Area. In approximately 38 miles, turn right onto Brush Creek Road at the traffic light, following signs toward Snowmass Village/Snowmass Ski Area. Take Brush Creek Road for six miles until you enter Snowmass Village. On the right will be the Village Center and a small Conoco gas station. Take a left onto Wood Road. Take an immediate right on to Carriage Way. Stonebridge Inn is located 2 1/2 blocks up the road on the left hand side--directly across from parking lots #1 and #2.
Elevation Note: Ski area highest elevation is 12,510'; Village at base is at 8,104'.

Equipment Requirements: Skis, boots, poles, clothing, etc. Helmets strongly recommended, Ski and boot rentals available.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check-in/Orientation
(Sunday, February 2)
   
 Afternoon: Hotel check-in is Sunday, in the hotel lobby from 3-5p.m. A required orientation meeting for Road Scholar will be held at 5:00 in the lobby meeting room. An itinerary sheet will be handed out at this time.
 Dinner: Restaurant meal.
 Evening: Free to prepare for the next day

Day 2: Skiing
(Monday, February 3)

Note: At 4,406 vertical feet, Snowmass has the most in the country. And with 3,132 acres of terrain, 91 trails, 21 chairlifts and access to your choice of cruisers, glades, steeps, terrain parks and halfpipes.



   
 Breakfast: Full breakfast buffet in hotel restaurant
 Morning: Skiing, during each day opportunities will exist for some coaching and group guided skiing.
 Lunch: Lunches will be in the form of a meal voucher to be used on the mountain(s) at restaurants.
 Afternoon: Skiing, during each day opportunities will exist for some coaching and group guided skiing.
 Dinner: Restaurant meal.
 Evening: Free time.

Day 3: Skiing

 Afternoon: Skiing, during each day opportunities will exist for some coaching and group guided skiing.
 Dinner: Explore and enjoy the variety of Aspen and Snowmass Village Restaurants on your own tonight
 Evening: Lecture by local expert on ski equipment tecnology and designs in today's market.

Day 4: Skiing
(Wednesday, February 5)
