Experience some of New England’s finest cross-country skiing in the heart of Vermont’s unspoiled Northeast Kingdom. Led by expert ski instructors, enjoy an introduction to cross-country skiing or a refresher course to hone your skills at every ability level. Whether your goal is physical training or exploring Vermont’s scenic treasures, you’ll have extensive options on trails that are wide, expertly maintained, and groomed daily for classical and skate ski techniques.

Practice Hatha Yoga to relax and stretch both body and mind. Whether you already have a regular yoga practice or are just interested in trying something new, you will find a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where participants at every level are encouraged to play, explore and honor their individuality. Please note that this program date is 4 nights, 5 days.

We offer a free shuttle service on Monday for RS participants. On Monday the shuttle leaves the airport at 1:00 pm and arrives at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center at 2:30 pm. The return shuttle leaves the Craftsbury Outdoor Center at 11:30 am on Friday and arrives at the Burlington International Airport at 1:00 pm. Participant can reserve their spot on the shuttle by calling the front office at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, 802-586-7767 or emailing chasl@craftsbury.com

Driving Directions
  Interstate 91 From Interstate 91 take exit 21 for St. Johnsbury and head west on route 2 towards West Danville. Turn west on route 15 to Hardwick, and North on route 14 towards Craftsbury. From Rt. 14 take a right turn at the "6 miles to Craftsbury Outdoor Center" sign onto the South Craftsbury Rd (also called Town Highway 1). Pass through the village of Craftsbury, up a steep hill, and through Craftsbury Common where you will see signs for Sterling College and Craftsbury Academy. Approximately 0.75 mile past the Common look for a small sign that says Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Bear right and follow the signs from there to the Center. You will be traveling on Mill Village Rd, which turns sharply to the left on a downhill. On your left you will see a small dam overflow area by Little Hosmer Pond. Continue on Mill Village Rd and then turn Right onto Lost Nation Rd. From the intersection of Lost Nation Road, you will climb up a steep hill and after about 0.5 miles you will see a large Craftsbury Outdoor Center sign on your left in front of a white house. This is the Craftsbury Outdoor Center office.
Elevation Note: The elevation at the Craftsbury outdoor Center does not exceed 2000 feet.

Equipment Requirements: Our Touring Center has a wide array of wax less rental skis, and can outfit anyone needing ski gear. High-performance skating and wax able classic ski equipment is also available, and our demo program is a great way to try out the latest ski equipment. Our rental fee for a package including skis, boots and poles costs $40.00 for the week.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check -In Dinner Orientation
(Monday, January 20)
   
 Afternoon: CHECK-IN: You may check in between 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the front desk in the white farmhouse. You'll receive your room assignment, room key and arrival packet with the most up-to-date schedule that we'll review during orientation this evening. You're free to explore the grounds and facilities until dinner.
 Dinner: Dinner is a catered buffet of home-cooked dishes served family style in our rustic dining hall. Hot entrées with a vegetarian option, salad bar, fresh fruit and dessert are offered every evening. Every effort is made to source locally grown and organic foods and products.
 Evening: ORIENTATION:.We'll have our orientation session in the Tamarack classroom following dinner. We will review the content of the arrival packet that contains the updated schedule of activities and meals for the program, a map of the Craftbury Outdoor Center, information about the facility and roster of the participants. Day 2: Yoga Ski Lesson
(Tuesday, January 21)

 Breakfast: A hearty breakfast is served every morning in our rustic Dining Hall. Chose from hot entrées, homemade baked goods and granola, fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, yogurt, and cereals.
 Morning: 1 hour Yoga Class followed by 1 1/2 hour Group Ski Lesson : Chose a ski group to fit your ability. Novice to expert technique will be taught with plenty of time to practice your new skills.
 Lunch: All your meals will be held first seating in the dining hall.
 Afternoon: Group Ski Lesson
 Afternoon: YOGA followed by a Wine, Cider, and Cheese Social, featuring locally made Vermont Cheeses. This is a great time to get to know the other Road Scholar participants.
 Dinner: Dinner in the Dining Hall.
 Evening: Social time / Games

Day 3: Yoga Ski Lesson

 Morning: Yoga Class followed by Group Ski Lesson

Day 4: Yoga Snowshoe Tour Skate Ski Lesson
(Thursday, January 23)

 Breakfast: Breakfast in the Dining Hall.
 Morning: GROUP SKI TOUR, for all abilities,to Charley's Cabin at Hosmer Point (dependent on snow conditions and weather).
 Lunch: Lunch
 Afternoon: SNOW-SHOE TOUR: Join our resident naturalist and explore our woodlands for signs of winter animal and bird life. SKATE SKI LESSON: This option is provided for participants who are interested in learning the technique of skate skiing. Skate Ski equipment will be provided to Road Scholar participants, to be used for the lesson, at no extra charge. YOGA

Day 5: Morning Skiing Departure
