Hear the crack of the bat and see the world’s best players up close at four spring training games (weather permitting). Meet retired players and umpires, learn about the Negro League and delve into the history of baseball, its rules and its legends. Learn about and attend games of three storied teams who train in Florida: the Philadelphia Phillies, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles.

• Enjoy four spring training ballgames (schedule released in December) featuring the Phillies, Pirates and O’s.
• Delve into the history of the old ballgame from the 19th century to today.
• “C’mon blue!” Learn about life calling balls and strikes from a retired MLB ump.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Registration/Orientation
(Sunday, March 16)
   
 Arrive To: Registration with Road Scholar is between 3:30PM to 4:45PM. Hotel check-in is at 3:00PM, room may be ready earlier.
 Afternoon: At 4:45PM Orientation of the week starts.
 Dinner: Dinner will be at the hotel. Forms are sent out in advance to see if participants are vegetarian.
 Evening: After dinner there is a getting to know you session for participants to become better acquainted.

Day 2: One morning lecture then travel to Clearwater to see Spring Training baseball game between Baltimore Orioles at Philadelphia Phillies at BrightHouse Networks Stadium.
(Monday, March 17)

Note: Must be able to walk from distant parking lot to and from the stadium, plus be able to climb stairs at the baseball stadium.



   
 Breakfast: A continental breakfast is available.
 Morning: PRESENTATION: Baseball lecture<> Break <> Bus departs for Clearwater.
 Lunch: Participants can purchase their own lunch at the ballpark or restaurant close to the stadium.
 Afternoon: BASEBALL GAME: Apply your new knowledge from morning lecture as you watch a baseball game. Travel to Clearwater to see Spring Training baseball game between Baltimore Orioles at Philadelphia Phillies at BrightHouse Networks Stadium After game is over bus departs for hotel.
 Dinner: Dinner will be at the hotel catered by the hotel restaurant.
 Evening: Enjoy a baseball DVD.

Day 3: Lecture from noted Phillies author, Rich Westcoff. Attend a Practice session if possible today or another day. No spring training game today.
(Tuesday, March 18)

Note: Must be able to walk from distant parking lot to and from the stadium, plus be able to climb stairs at the baseball stadium.



   
 Breakfast: A breakfast with two hot items, plus the typical continental breakfast is available.
 Morning: PRESENTATION: Phillies author Rich Westcott will share his extensive knowledge with you. None of our three teams are playing today. PRESENTATION: Baseball lecture if we don't go to watch a practice.
 Lunch: Participants can purchase their own lunch at the hotel restauant or area restaurant. There is a seafood restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.
 Afternoon: FREE AFTERNOON: Enjoy the area or just relax by the pool at the hotel.
 Dinner: Dinner will be catered by the hotel restaurant in our private meeting room.
 Evening: PRESENTATION: Q & A Session: With a Minor League Pirates Player

Day 4: Presentation by baseball expert, Spring Training baseball game. See Tampa Bay Rays play the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota at Ed Smith Stadium.

Note: Must be able to walk from distant parking lot to and from the stadium, plus be able to climb stairs at the baseball stadium.



   
 Breakfast: A continental breakfast is available.
 Morning: PRESENTATION: Baseball lecture. PRESENTATION: Baseball lecture.
 Lunch: Participants can purchase their own lunch at the game or area restaurant by the stadium.
 Afternoon: BASEBALL GAME: See the Tampa Bay Rays play the Baltimore Orioles right here in Sarasota at Ed Smith Stadium.
 Dinner: DINNER: Will be on your own in Downtown Sarasota. Bus will drop you off directly after the game.
 Evening: HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE: Test your baseball trivia with a fun game among participants conducted by the group leader

Day 5: One baseball class then travel to Clearwater to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Philadelphia Phillies at BrightHouse Networks Field, then night game Baltimore Orioles at Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton at McKechnie Field.
(Thursday, March 20)

Note: PLEASE NOTE TWO BASEBALL GAMES TODAY. Must be able to walk from distant parking lot to and from the stadium, plus be able to climb stairs at the baseball stadium.



   
 Breakfast: A breakfast with two hot items, plus the typical continental breakfast is available.
 Morning: PRESENTATION: One baseball lecture. Then we travel to Clearwater.
 Lunch: Participants can purchase their own lunch at the stadium.
 Afternoon: BASEBALL GAME: Toronto Blue Jays play the Philadelphia Philles in Clearwater at BrightHouse Networks Field.
 Dinner: Dinner will be at the game on your own at the night game.
 Evening: BASEBALL GAME: See the Baltimore Orioles play the Pittsburgh Pirates at McKechnie Field right here in Bradenton.

Day 6: Retired Baseball Scout shares his experiences.
(Friday, March 21)

Note: Program ends today after one lecture and box lunch to go or enjoy at the hotel.



   
 Breakfast: A continental breakfast is available.
 Morning: PRESENTATION: Retired baseball scout will share his wealth of experiences over the years. This is your opportunity to ask questions you have always wanted to ask.
 Lunch: A chance to create your own sandwich for lunch is offered on the last day to allow students who need to catch an early flight to take their lunch with them. Students who do not need to leave can enjoy their lunch in the classroom or on the patio by the pool. Program ends after lunch.
