Celebrate the rich history of Missouri winemaking. Learn about vintage, blending and tasting prior to field trips to Ozark Plateau wineries. Become acquainted with viticulture and educate your palette.



Fall Color Extravaganza

Delve into the why, when and how leaves turn color. Naturalist guides our in-depth look at Mother Nature's autumn mysteries. Insights into tree identification by color and location on the landscape and other autumn delights of the Ozark landscape.



Golden Age Of The Big Bands

Take a trip down memory lane to review the Big Bands from 1935-1945: Herman, Ellington, Miller, Shaw, and more. Look at their star players and arrangers. Listen to recordings that made them famous and videos featuring America's finest music.




Potosi

The Eastern Ozarks are defined as much by its history and culture as by geology, geography and landscapes. Potosi is one of several rural communities in this region of clear streams, big springs and pastoral scenery. Gently rolling hills, deep valleys and plateaus are home to small farms and an abundance of wineries which dot the countryside.

Shuttle is run by YMCA Trout Lodge. Sign up form is sent out with Health Forms approx 6 weeks before arrival. Current pick up times... 1:30 St. Louis Airport 2:30 St. Louis Amtrak Station Return at end of program is approx 2:00 PM to airport and 2:45 to Train Station
 
Driving Directions
  Greater St. Louis Follow I-70 West to I-270 South. I-270 South to State Hwy 21 South. Follow 21 South to the town of Potosi. Turn right onto State Hwy 8. Follow 8 through town and turn right onto State Hwy AA. Main entrance to YMCA of the Ozarks is about 2 miles on the right.
Elevation Note: Elevation ranges from 800 - 1100 feet

Day 1: Orientation. Get to know you activities.

Note: Introductions of participants, hosts and instructors. Fruit basket at registration table and snack for evening activities.
   
 Afternoon: Arrive and check in. Fruit basket and coffee at Registration table. Orientation at 4:30 PM
 Dinner: Buffet-style dinner at Lodge
 Evening: Get To Know You Activities with snack
   
Accommodations: YMCA Trout Lodge

Day 2: Class sessions. Facility tours by van. Nature hike. Free afternoon. Evening tea.
(Monday, October 14)

Note: Will need to sign up for facility tours upon arrival. Nature hike requires closed toed and heeled shoes.
   
 Breakfast: Hot buffet breakfast also includes fresh fruit, breads, cereals and pastries.
 Morning: 2 - 75 minute class sessions. Coffee and water available during class.
 Lunch: Hot buffet lunch with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Afternoon: 1 - 75 minute class session. Coffee and water available during class. Property tours by van. Free time to hike or use Trout Lodge facilities.
 Dinner: Hot buffet dinner with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Evening: Evening tea with snack. Decaffeinated options.

Day 3: Class sessions. Pontoon tours. Free afternoon. Movie night.

 Morning: 2 - 75 minutes classroom sessions. Coffee and Water available in the classroom.
 Lunch: Hot buffet lunch with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Afternoon: 1 - 75 minute classroom session. Pontoon boat tours. Free time to hike or use Trout Lodge facilities.
 Dinner: Hot buffet dinner with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Evening: Movie night with pop corn.

Day 4: Classroom sessions. Optional Field Trip. Free afternoon. Astronomy.
(Wednesday, October 16)

Note: Field Trip to different Missouri wineries is included without extra cost.
   
 Breakfast: Hot buffet breakfast also includes fresh fruit, breads, cereals and pastries.
 Morning: 2 - 75 minutes classroom sessions. Coffee, tea and water available in classroom.
 Lunch: Hot buffet lunch with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Afternoon: Field trip to St. James Winery and Peaceful Bend Winery. Trip will compare and contrast the largest winery in Missouri with one of the smallest. Behind the scenes tours of both places (may be changed based on production or OSHA schedules), and time in the tasting rooms and gift shops.
 Dinner: Hot buffet dinner with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Evening: Astronomy and star gazing.

Day 5: Classroom sessions. Fall crafts. Free afternoon. Ice cream social.
(Thursday, October 17)
   
 Breakfast: Hot buffet breakfast also includes fresh fruit, breads, cereals and pastries.
 Morning: 2 - 75 minute classroom sessions. Coffee, tea and water available in classroom.
 Lunch: Hot buffet lunch with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Afternoon: 1 -75 minute classroom session. Fall collages at arts and crafts with all natural materials. Free time to use Trout Lodge facilities.
 Dinner: Hot buffet dinner with salad bar. Menu varies.
 Evening: Ice Cream Social. Ice cream with all the fixings. Also time for passport stickers, group photos and one last fun activity.

Day 6: Classroom sessions. Check out.
(Friday, October 18)

Note: Check out time is by 11:30 am. You may stay for the rest of the afternoon and use Trout Lodge facilities if you wish.
   
 Breakfast: Hot buffet breakfast also includes fresh fruit, breads, cereals and pastries.
 Morning: 3 - 45 minute classroom sessions. Classes will finish by 11:00 AM.
 Lunch: Hot buffet lunch with salad bar. Menu varies. A boxed lunch is available for an additional fee for those that wish to leave as soon as class is over.
 Afternoon: Free time available to use YMCA Trout Lodge after check out for all participants. Do some of the activities that you wanted to do and didn't get the chance to do like horseback riding or climbing towers.
