Christmas in New York! It's a magical time, from elaborate department store window displays to the skating rink and Christmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza, from the iconic Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall to an 18th-century nativity at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and bustling Times Square specially lit up for the splendor of the season.

Molly Goodrich is co-director of Explore New York and is a licensed New York City guide. Director of the Carlo Lamagna Gallery for five years, Molly has served as a corporate art consultant and also taught contemporary American art in London through Syracuse University.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Room Check-In & Register with Road Scholar Coordinator/Orientation
(Sunday, December 1)
   
 Afternoon: 3:30 pm is Hotel check-in. 4:00 pm is Road Scholar check-in. Between 4 and 5pm come to the designated meeting room (it will be posted) to register with your Program Coordinator and pick up your arrival packet. Programs are planned far in advance, so local circumstances may require changes from time to time. We will notify you as quickly as possible should there be any changes and appreciate your understanding
 Dinner: 5:00pm: Enjoy your first meal at the colorful Tick Tock Diner, located just off the hotel lobby. This 24-hour diner features classic American cooking. White and black checkered floors and shiny chrome columns enhance the all-American ambience. Dinner in the diner is available and included even if you arrive late. Our meal is scheduled for 5:00pm so that we can get through orientation and have some time to explore on your own. If your arrival is delayed, please attend orientation and then eat afterwards.
 Evening: 6:15pm: We begin our orientation to the program and introduce staff and members of the group. We’ll review the schedule and any updates and answer any questions you may have. Following orientation we will walk to the Empire State Building.

Day 2: Learn about the celebration of Hanukkah and Visit Temple Emanu-el
(Monday, December 2)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the meeting room
 Morning: One of Santa's elves gives a lecture on the history of Christmas and we learn the history of Haunkkah.
 Lunch: Lunch in the Meeting Room
 Afternoon: Visit: Temple Emanu-el.
 Dinner: Dinner in the neighborhood
 Evening: Optional after dinner cruise across the Hudson on the Staten Island Ferry unless substituted with another fun holiday event.

Day 3: Travel the neighborhoods of Little Italy and Chinatown and visit the Museum of the Chinese in America
(Tuesday, December 3)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the Tick Tock Diner
 Morning: Learn about the holidays of other immigrant groups and take a guided walk through Little Italy.
 Lunch: Lunch in Little Italy
 Afternoon: Continue to explore Little Italy and Chinatown and visit the Museum of the Chinese in America
 Dinner: Dinner in a neighborhood restaurant
 Evening: Take an guided evening stroll or fun holiday event.

Day 4: Visit Rockefeller Center and attend a performance of The Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes
(Wednesday, December 4)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel diner
 Morning: Take a guided walk of two of the most iconic places in Midtown, Times Square and Rockefeller Center. Learn about these places with an expert local guide. and attend a performance of The Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes
 Lunch: Lunch on your own in Rockefeller Center
 Afternoon: Free afternoon and evening to see a Broadway Matinee and/or evening performance in Lincoln Center or visit museums during the most festive time of the year.
 Dinner: On your own to explore the many cuisines.
