Nature at Work in the North Cascades |
Sessions begin with fascinating slide presentations on the spectacular, natural world of the Methow Valley. Then experience the colorful, seasonal splendor of this dramatic mountain setting on easy, naturalist-guided walks on surrounding trails.
Northwest History in Story and Song |
Seafaring explorers, overland trappers, miners, homesteaders — each helped settle the Northwest, and each wrote songs to tell their tales. Taught by one of the West’s favorite folksingers, the course is a mix of fascinating stories and lively songs.
Life and Times of the Methow Valley |
The Methow Valley has a colorful history right out of the Wild West. A longtime resident will tell of the mining boom of the late 1890s, of the sprawling ranches of the Methow, and what it’s like to live in this beautiful, secluded valley.
Winthrop (Sun Mountain)
Located 200 miles northeast of Seattle on the eastern slope of the North Cascades, Winthrop is a mountain town with a frontier past, and is thriving today as a scenic recreation destination and part of the new Old West. North Cascades National Park is nearby, spectacular in all seasons.
