Music is magical, especially when you experience the cutting-edge performances and behind-the-scenes access of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre! With operatic productions and musical ensembles that take place in the charming, European-style Ellen Eccles Theatre, add further depth and meaning to your experience with a literary seminar, exclusive lectures and “Informances.” Meet members of the cast for intimate Q&A sessions, and learn about the festival’s origins during a private breakfast with theater visionary Michael Ballam.

Monday, July 15, 2013: Check in starts at 3:00 pm. The Orientation Dinner will begin at 5:30 pm. You will be staying at University Inn that night.
  End of Program:
Monday, July 21, 2013: The program will end after breakfast, hotel checkout by 12:00 pm. You will be staying at University Inn the night before.
  Required documents:
The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. When participants register a welcome packet is mailed to them. Two important forms, the Health & Emergency Information Form and Arrival Form, need to be completed, signed and mailed back to the University Inn.
  Parking availability:
Complimentary parking is provided in an adjacent covered parking terrace. A parking pass will be issue at check in.

Salt Lake Express provides shuttle service from the airport to the University Inn in Logan where you will be staying. Participants should contact the Salt Lake Express directly for their transportation reservation. www.saltlakeexpress.com

 
Driving Directions
  Salt Lake International Airport From Salt Lake International Airport travel along I-15 Northbound. Take Exit 362 (Logan/Utah State University Exit) in Brigham City and merge to the right. Continue on this road through two stop lights and up into Sardine Canyon. When you come out of the canyon follow the road until it reaches Logan. This road will merge with Main Street. From Main Street, turn Right (East) on 500 North (turn left if traveling South on *Main Street). Go straight to 700 East where the road Ts. Turn Left (North). The road will go up and around and has a stoplight at the top at the intersection of 700 North and 800 East. Go straight through the stoplight half of a block. Turn right (South) immediately after the parking structure. There is blue lit sign with the University Inn's name on it. University Inn is located at the South end of the open parking lot (a 5-story mirrored building). You may use the 20 minute loading zone to unload your luggage and check in. At check in you will receive a parking validation for the parking structure located adjacent to the University Inn, where you will need to re-park into.
Elevation Note: Logan is an elevation of 4,775 ft.

Note: The Orientation Dinner is held at the Beautiful Eccles Conference Center on Utah State University Campus



   
 Arrive To: Arrival at 3 PM.
 Dinner: The University Inn & Conference Center will host an Road Scholar Orientation Dinner to kick off a week of Opera Magic. The dinner and information session will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center Room 201/203

Day 2: Breakfast/Opera Class/Lunch/Opera Class/Dinner
(Tuesday, July 16)

Note: All opera and music classes are held in the University Inn.



   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast (eggs, coffee, tea, juice, pastries/breads, fresh fruit) in University Inn Room 518.
 Morning: Opera and music classes will be offered in the morning in University Inn Conference Room 507. Instructors will bring to life the magical history of the composers, the stories and themes behind the operas featured in Utah Festival Opera's Season.
 Lunch: Lunch will be held at the Taggart Student Center located next to the University Inn.
 Afternoon: An opera and music class will be offered in the afternoon in University Inn Conference Room 507. An instructor will bring to life the magical history of the composers, the stories, and themes behind the operas featured in the Utah Festival Opera's Season.
 Dinner: For dinner we'll enjoy a delightful meal at one of Logan's wonderful restaurants.

(Wednesday, July 17)

Day 4: Breakfast/Opera Class/Lunch/Irving Berlin/Dinner/Lyric Theater Performance
(Thursday, July 18)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast (eggs, coffee, tea, juice, pastries/breads, fresh fruit) in University Inn Room 518.
 Morning: Opera and music classes will be offered in the morning in University Inn Conference Room 507. Instructors will bring to life the magical history of the composers, the stories and themes behind the operas featured in Utah Festival Opera's Season.
 Lunch: Lunch will be at the Taggart Student Center located next to the University Inn.
 Afternoon: Enjoy an evening of the best of Irving Berlin, who is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters in American history. He wrote classics like Alexander's Ragtime Band, White Christmas and There's No Business Like Show Business.
 Dinner: Dinner will be at one of Logan's charming downtown restaurants.
 Evening: We will be attending one of the wonderful performances put on by the Lyric Theater Company in downtown Logan.

Day 5: Breakfast/Free Time/Lunch/Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat/Dinner/The Flying Dutchman
(Friday, July 19)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast (eggs, coffee, tea, juice, pastries/breads, fresh fruit) in University Inn Room 518.
 Lunch: Lunch will be at the Taggart Student Center located next to the University Inn.
 Afternoon: Follow Joseph as he is sold into Egypt by his plotting brothers and later reconciles with his family as a famine plagues the land. Told completely in song, JOSEPH and the AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is one of the most celebrated musicals of all time. Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door are just a sampling of its rich musical score. Nominated for six Tonys, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, Joseph is one of the most watched musicals ever produced on Broadway.
 Dinner: Dinner will be at one of Logan's charming dowtown restaurant. Enjoy a small-town atmosphere during a delightful evening of great food and great company!
 Evening: Pirates, ghost ships, curses and treasure! Long before those Caribbean pirates sailed the ocean blue, The Flying Dutchman wowed opera-goers with romantic and mysterious tales of the sea. Inspired by a stormy sea crossing from Latvia to London in 1839, The Flying Dutchman marks the beginning of Wagner's mature opera canon. Revel in the beauty and precision of one of Germany's premiere opera composers.

Day 6: Breakfast w/ the Stars/Backstage Tour/Lunch/Fiddler on the Roof/Closing Dinner/Otello
(Saturday, July 20)

Note: Bring you passport to the closing dinner to get a Utah State Sticker!



   
 Breakfast: We will join Michael Ballam & UFO Stars in the open-air Café Des Artistes for a charming breakfast and a lively discussion of the season.
 Morning: We will attend a backstage tour where we'll learn the history and tour the Ellen Eccles Theatre and the Dansante Building.
 Lunch: We will eat lunch at a cozy local restaurant downtown.
 Afternoon: Tevye lives at a crossroads. His family and Jewish traditions are being challenged by his strong-willed daughters, and the Tsar of Russia has issued an edict to evict Jews from their homes and villages. Fiddler on the Roof is one of the longest running shows on Broadway and winnner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, Score, Book, Direction and Choreography. Starring Michael Ballam as Tevye, UFOMT's Fiddler on the Roof is must-see musical theatre.
 Dinner: Closing Dinner at a restaurant in downtown Logan.
 Evening: In true opera fashion, this tale is packed with deceit, conspiracy, a love triangle and ultimately tragedy. Otello, a Venetian general, returns home from a successful military campaign to assume his governorship of Cyprus. His success abroad is quickly eclipsed by conspiracy and treachery at home. Otello finds deceit at every turn. What will he do? Who can he trust? Don't miss this Verdi classic based on the Shakespeare play.

Day 7: Breakfast Cookout/Checkout
(Sunday, July 21)
