Santa Cruz

On the north side of Monterey Bay, 74 miles south of San Francisco, Santa Cruz is a peaceful, beachside community with an offbeat spirit, a penchant for the eccentric, and a colorful boardwalk that is one of the last of its kind on the West Coast.



Accommodations
Retreat center on 170 acres of redwood forest and meadowland. Private baths, sauna, outdoor pool and massage therapy available. No smoking or alcohol on-site. Delicious organic vegetarian cuisine. Exquisite temples, prayer wheels, and bell on-site.

Breige Walbridge

Breige Gormley Walbridge has been the Road Scholar program coordinator and group leader at Land of Medicine Buddha since 1999. During this time, she has organized and hosted approximately 200 programs. Breige is known for her warmth, hospitality and organizational skills.
 
Ingrid Mednis

Ingrid Mednis has taught numerous classes in herbology and frequently leads nature walks. She has been a docent at the University of California, Santa Cruz organic farm project for about 15 years and currently works in Henry Cowell State Park.

Arrival/check in between 4 and 5pm. Dinner at 6:00pm followed by Evening Orientation at 7:00 pm. You will be staying at Land of Medicine Buddha that night.

  Highway 17 from San Jose South bound on Highway 1; Exit at Bay/Porter street. Turn left under the freeway; Take first right on Main Street; go through intersection with Soquel Drive: stay on Main Street for another 3/4 mile; bear right on Glenhaven Road: First Right on Prescott Rd. Land of Medicine Buddha is at the end of Prescott Rd.

Day 2: Movement Class/ Buddhist Ways of Thinking/ Vegetarian Cuisine: Lecture and demonstration.
(Monday, November 18)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is in the dining room, a comfortable place to enjoy the delicious vegetarian meals prepared by our expert kitchen staff.
 Morning: Qigong (Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese healing art that has been used for centuries to balance internal body energy and to promote good health. This method of internal energy work is a fantastic and easy practice that brings physical happiness, mental calm, and a general since of well-being. Gentle physical movements are combined with breathing and awareness, for energy building and flexibility. Break. Buddhist Ways: Explore wisdom and compassion according to Buddhist teachings. Through lecture, guided meditations and discussion,learn how to move your mind to deep peace and happiness.
 Lunch: Lunch in dining room.
 Afternoon: Free time:Sauna/Walk/Read/Journal/Private Massage. Afternoon snack CLASS: Vegetarian Cuisine: Lecture and demonstration.

Day 3: Movement Class/ Buddhist Ways of Thinking/ Meditation/Nature Walk/ Tibetan Art Lecture
(Tuesday, November 19)

 Morning: MOVEMENT CLASS: Delve deeper into activating and harmonizing life energy with the physical movements and vocal tones of Qigong (Chi Kung). Break. CLASS: Buddhist Ways: Explore wisdom and compassion according to Buddhist teachings. Through lecture, guided meditations and discussion,learn how to move your mind to deep peace and happiness.
 Lunch: Lunch in dining room.
 Afternoon: EXCURSION: After lunch, we,ll have a healthful nature walk to appreciate the beauty and peace of our surroundings in this pristine environment where redwood forests and rolling meadows abound. Afternoon Snack. CLASS: Vegetarian Cuisine: Lecture and demonstration.
 Dinner: Dinner in dining room.
 Evening: CLASS: Learn about the symbolism of Tibetan art, including a sand mandala, followed by a guided exploration of art works in the facilities at Land of Medicine Buddha.
