Revel in the lyrical sounds of the recorder, viola da gamba and harpsichord as you share your musical gifts during a week-long intensive early music workshop. Choose between sessions ideal for your skill level — from advanced and upper intermediate recorder and viola da gamba to low and upper intermediate recorder and early string — and focus on improving your techniques and practicing for ensembles.

Carmel Valley

Still charmingly rural, Carmel Valley today includes not only rustic ranches, but also modern wineries and art galleries. This inland region, most famously described in the writings of John Steinbeck, is neighbor to nearby Carmel and Monterey Bay.



Accommodations

Letitia Berlin

Letitia Berlin is past president of the American Recorder Society. A renowned instructor nationwide, she has taught at the Amherst Early Music Festival and the Oregon Coast Recorder Society Winds and Waves workshop. Besides Farallon, Letitia performs with the Tibia Recorder Duo, Bertamo and the Sitka Trio. She has also performed as a guest artist with the San Francisco Symphony, the Carmel Bach Festival and the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra.
 
Frances Blaker

Frances Blaker received her music pedagogical and performance degrees from the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, where she studied with Eva Leg๊ne. She also studied with Marion Verbruggen in the Netherlands. Frances has performed as a soloist and with various ensembles in the United States, Denmark, England and the Netherlands, including the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra. Besides the Farallon Recorder Quartet, she is a member of Ensemble Vermillian and the Tibia Recorder Duo.

Driving Directions
  Anywhere Hidden Valley is located exactly 11.2 miles east of Hwy 1 on the Carmel Valley Road (G-16) in Carmel Valley, California. Traveling east on G-16, Hidden Valley is located on the right side just past Ford Road. The campus entrance is distinguished by a hand-carved sign denoting Hidden Valley, An Institute of the Arts. Traveling on Hwy 101 heading north (from the south), take the Monterey Peninsula exit in Salinas (called Sanborn Road) and follow it west (Sanborn Rd. becomes Blanco Road) to Hwy 68. Turn left onto Hwy 68 (west) and follow it about 9 miles until you see a sign for Laureles Grade (G-20) to Carmel Valley. Turn left onto G-20 and follow it until it ends (6 miles) at Carmel Valley Road. Turn left again and follow it to Hidden Valley (approx. 2 miles). Traveling on Hwy 101 heading south (from the north), Take the Monterey Peninsula/Hwy 156 exit and follow it west about 5 miles where it will automatically put you onto Hwy 1. Traveling on Hwy 1, simply come to the Carmel Valley Road (just south of Carmel) and once on the Carmel Valley Road, come out 11.2 miles.
