Sue Lombardi

Susanna Lombardi is an art historian and educator whose career in college teaching spanned over 25 years. In addition to her role as a faculty member at Dominican College, she served as the associate director of the graduate humanities program. She completed her graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley, and is the author of the book, "Behold!"
 
Michael Graham

A professor of political science at San Francisco State University, Dr. Michael Graham has taught at numerous educational institutions including Oklahoma State University, U.C. Santa Barbara, Northwestern University and Loyola University of Chicago. His major research and teaching interests are in the fields of public law and American political institutions. Dr. Graham holds a Ph.D. in political science from U.S. Santa Barbara.
 
Richard Aldag

Richard Aldag is an active composer whose works have been commissioned and performed by numerous symphonies, including the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and the Shanghai Symphony. He served as executive director of the Napa Valley Symphony from 2006-2012, and prior to this, served as executive director of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. As an educator, Richard has served on the faculties of several schools, including Fordham University and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
 
Maureen O'Brien

Maureen O'Brien earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees at Dominican University in San Rafael, California. She has taught art history courses at Sonoma State University, Dominican University and the College of Marin. Currently, she guest lectures at Dominican University and the College of Marin.
 
John Rothmann

Regarded as a scholar or modern Republicanism, John Rothmann is a political and foreign policy consultant who specializes in issues of the U.S., Middle East and former Soviet Union. Among his many roles, he has served as director of the Nixon Collection at Whittier College, as chief of staff to Senator Milton Marks and as field representative to Senator Quentin Kopp. John has spoken at numerous campuses in the U.S., Canada and Israel, and taught at the University of San Francisco.
 
Rand Richards

Rand Richards is a San Francisco historian. Rand has written three books: “Historic San Francisco: A Concise History and Guide”, “Historic Walks in San Francisco: 18 Trails Through the City’s Past” and “Mud, Blood, and Gold: San Francisco in 1849.” He has a B.A. in history from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from San Francisco State University. In 2005, Rand received the San Francisco History Association’s Oscar Lewis Award for his contributions to knowledge of San Francisco history.
 
Mark Levy

Mark Levy has performed and taught around the country for 30 years at synagogues, Jewish community centers, Lehrhaus Judaica, Workmen's Circle and other Jewish groups. He has appeared throughout the country and abroad as a singer and lecturer who specializes in traditional Judaic folk music, Jewish humor, and Klezmer history and theory. “Nu, You Think That's Funny?” was developed in a Catskill hotel one summer and includes jokes, film and audio clips that chronicle 100 years of Jewish jokesters.
 
Seth Shostak

Seth Shostak is the senior astronomer at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence) Institute. For much of his career, Seth conducted radio astronomy research on galaxies, and currently hosts the SETI Institute’s science radio show, “Big Picture Science.” He is the author of “Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.” Seth holds a degree in physics from Princeton and a doctorate in astronomy from the California Institute of Technology.
 
Jerry Frohmader

Jerry Frohmader is a composer, performer, teacher and arts administrator, whose compositions have been performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. As assistant dean in the School of Music at the California Institute of Arts, Jerry composed a musical score for the opera "Victory Over the Sun" by Malevich. As a musician, he has performed with the New Jersey Symphony and on the Jerry Lewis Telethon, and has been featured on the ABC News, CNN Travel and the PBS program SPARK.
 
Lynn Miller

Lynn Ruth Miller began her career as a standup comedian at the age of 70, but has long been an author and entertainer. At the age of 27, she starred in her own CBS television show, and her current newspaper column, “Thoughts While Walking the Dog,” has been gathered into two books. Lynn Ruth has a one woman show, “Farewell to the Tooth Fairy,” and frequently performs in comedy productions. She is the host of two local television programs, “What’s Hot Between the Covers” and “Paint with Lynn.”.
 
Bruce Bramlett

Rev. Bruce Bramlett is an ordained Episcopal priest, Christian scholar and activist on several social issues. He received his theological education at Union Theological Seminary in New York and his Masters of Divinity degree at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. Rev. Bramlett has been a frequent lecturer in synagogues and churches on issues of Jewish history, Christian theology, Holocaust studies, Jewish/ Christian history, antisemitism and Israeli/ Palestinian relations.

Day 2:
(Friday, April 26)
   
 Breakfast: 7:30
 Morning: 9:30-11:30: Murals through the Centuries: Michelangelo, Diego Rivera and Leonardo da Vinci were all muralists, creating large-scale wall paintings that decorated private homes and institutions, as well as public spaces. Learn about probably the oldest human art form by studying cave paintings more than 32,000 years old and examine Renaissance frescoes and urban murals in the United States and Mexico that focus on sociopolitical issues and everyday life.

 Afternoon: 12:45-5: Field trip to marvel and be amazed at many of San Francisco's murals.
 Dinner: 5:30
 Evening: 7-9: The Religious Traditions of the West: The worldview of western religious thought will be explored in the religious communities of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. While not suggesting any sort of homogenization, these are enormously diverse traditions, each carry common threads of belief and practice. We will attempt to provide a rough and ready morphology for these western religious traditions.

 Afternoon: 3-5: Jazz & the Pop Song: 1910-1960: Follow the rise of the pop solo singer from Al Jolson, and Bessie Smith to Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat “King” Cole and Judy Garland as the styles and the rise and fall in popularity of each artist are explored.

(Monday, April 29)

 Morning: 9-12: The Making of the President 1964: The 1964 Election began with the tragic death of a president, the remaking of the Democratic Party and the rise and ultimate triumph of the Goldwater wing of the Republican Party. Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, Robert Kennedy, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Regan, Nelson Rockefeller and more will come alive in this class as contenders and candidates vie in this landmark election.

Hiller Aviation Museum is dedicated to the dreams of flight, looking back into aviation’s history while exploring its future. Open 10-5 daily; six miles south of hotel at 601 Skyway Road, San Carlos; 650-654-0200; take Hwy 101 south to Holly Street/Redwood Shores Pkwy exit. Go east onto Redwood Shores Pkwy. Turn right onto Airport Road. Turn right onto Skyway Road. The restoration shop, with its large picture windows, allows the visitor to witness the ongoing restoration process.
