From the silver mining towns and open frontiers of Colorado’s “Old West” to the ski destinations of its “New West,” this six-day bicycling adventure from Frisco to Aspen explores the people, natural resources and history of the rugged and majestic central Rocky Mountains.




Highlights

• Bicycle on 28-speed hybrids on mostly off-highway paved bike paths amid the vibrant colors of autumn.
• Soothe sore muscles in the mineral-rich, natural spring waters of the world-famous Glenwood Hot Springs.
• Ride the 16-mile Glenwood Canyon trail and view towering canyon walls, the roaring rapids of the Colorado River, limestone and granite cliffs, natural hot springs, and colorful freight and passenger trains.



Activity Particulars

Biking up to 40 miles a day. Sag wagon provides support. Elevations of 5,700-10,650 feet.



Quality 24-speed hybrid-style bicycles are provided, helmets required. Participants may bring own bicycles if approved in advance. Participants may also bring own seats and/or pedals if desired. Rolling hills, easy to moderate climbs, several steep, on paved roads/highways with moderate traffic and paved bicycle paths. Must demonstrate good biking ability; proficiency/safety test is conducted.

Nestled in the heart of ski country, Frisco welcomes nearly three million visitors each winter to its pristine slope and quaint lodges. Once a booming mining town, Frisco’s historic district remains home to 11 original buildings — from a log chapel to a school — that offer a look into the town’s history during the late 19th century.

Driving Directions
  Frisco from Denver Take Interstate 70 West to exit #203, Frisco, CO (approximately 70 miles). Upon exiting, take Highway 9 South to Hotel.
  Frisco from Grand Junction Take Interstate 70 East to exit #203, Frisco, CO (approximately 168 miles). Upon exiting, take Highway 9 South to Hotel.
Elevation Note: Rides will range from 5,750 to 10,650 feet.

Day 1: Safety Orientation/Introductions
(Sunday, September 15)
   
 Arrive To: Check-in by 2 p.m. in order to ensure time for bicycle fitting and mandatory safety orientation. Warm up ride around town.
 Dinner: Dinner at restaurant
 Evening: Introductory lecture and individual introductions

Day 2: Bicycling from Frisco around Lake Dillon to Breckenridge and return to Frisco
(Monday, September 16)
   
 Breakfast: Hotel Breakfast
 Morning: Ride to Breckenridge by paved roads and bike path. This ride goes through scenic spruce and pine forests along beautiful Ten Mile river surrounded by snow covered peaks. Travel through two historic mining towns. Optional 7 mile ride along Dillon Reservoir.
 Lunch: Lunch will be on the road for convenience and flexibility. Participants should bring favorite lunch items or visit grocery stores along the route.
 Afternoon: Continue morning ride
 Dinner: Restaurant meal
 Evening: Free to explore Town of Frisco

Day 3: Bicycle Frisco to Copper Mountain, Vail Pass to Avon
(Tuesday, September 17)
   
 Breakfast: Hotel Restaurant
 Morning: Bicycle from Frisco on paved bike path to Avon passing town and ski area of Vail, 30 miles. The route heads up and over popular and very scenic Vail Pass.
 Lunch: Lunch will be on the road for convenience and flexibility. Participants should bring favorite lunch items or visit grocery stores along the route.
 Afternoon: Continue morning ride west of Vail to the town of Avon
 Dinner: Restaurant Meal
 Evening: Free time to explore town of Avon.

Day 4: Bicycle Eagle to Glenwood Springs
(Wednesday, September 18)
   
 Breakfast: Hotel Meal
 Morning: Van from Avon to town of Eagle, then bicycle by amazingly engineered paved bicycle path along spectacular Glenwood Canyon 30 miles.
 Lunch: Lunch will be on the road for convenience and flexibility. Participants should bring favorite lunch items or visit grocery stores along the route.
 Afternoon: Continue morning ride
 Dinner: Restaurant meal
 Evening: Optional visit to Glenwood Springs, Hot Springs

Day 5: Bicycle Glenwood Springs to Snowmass Village
(Thursday, September 19)
   
 Breakfast: Hotel Restaurant
 Morning: Bicycle along the Roaring Fork River by bicycle path from Glenwood Springs to Snowmass Village, 40 miles.
 Lunch: Lunch will be on the road for convenience and flexibility. Participants should bring favorite lunch items or visit grocery stores along the route.
 Afternoon: Continue morning ride
 Dinner: Hotel Restaurant
 Evening: Free to enjoy hotel amenities

Day 6: Departures
(Friday, September 20)

 Morning: Transport by van back to Frisco Motel arriving around 11 am. Persons should not schedule departing flights from Denver until late afternoon or evening.
