Four-night program based at a working guest Ranch near Loveland, Colo. The photography will focus on the working ranch with special help from the cowboys and other ranch staff in herding animals, and everyday life of a working ranch. Instructor will be Carl Studna. Rocky Mountain National Park is not visited in this program.

Allenspark

Founded in 1918, the scenic town of Allenspark sits on the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain National Park. With the craggy, 14,255-foot Longs Peak looming in the background, Allenspark draws fishermen, hikers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts seeking the quintessential Colorado experience.

Driving Directions
  Sylvan Dale Ranch Sylvan Dale Ranch is located 13 miles west of Interstate 25 on US Highway 34. At the junction of US 34 and I 25 (exit 257B if traveling North on I25 and exit 257A if traveling South on I25 from Cheyenne, WY). The Ranch entrance is located between mile markers 84 and 83 on US 34. Turn right at the wooden Sylvan Dale sign before you enter the Big Thompson Canyon. (If you get to the Dam Store, you've just missed the entrance.) Follow the signs marked "Office," past the stables, continue to the office at the far end of the parking lot, approximately 0.3 miles from the highway.
Elevation Note: Those walking, hiking or participating in activities will experience elevations 5,000 to 7,000ft.

(Monday, October 7)
   
 Breakfast: Ranch Dining Room
 Morning: Sunrise photo walk at horse corral; after breakfast, orientation wagon ride and photo opportunities during cattle round-up and sorting.
 Lunch: Ranch Dining Room
 Afternoon: Meet with instructor after lunch for photo review and critiques;Field work on photography of ranch structures, equipment, fencelines; horseshoeing demonstration and photo shoot of cowhands.
 Dinner: Ranch Dining Room
 Evening: Photo work presentation by instructors; plan for tomorrow

 Morning: Before breakfast sunrise shoot on ranch and river; after breakfast, photo shoot of ranch chores and foal care of young horses; meet before lunch to discuss photo techniques including action moments
 Lunch: Ranch Dining Room
 Afternoon: Draft horses and wagon demonstration and photo shoot; meet late afternoon for photo review and critiques by instructors
 Dinner: Ranch Dining Room
 Evening: Evening presentations on techniques and planning for the next day

 Morning: Sunrise photo walk; after breakfast, opportunities for photography and viewing with horseback ride or hike to see historic wagon roads, fenceposts, foothills vistas, fall colors and possible wildlife including coyotes, deer, bighorn sheep
 Lunch: Box lunch
 Afternoon: Complete morning's ride/hike. meet with instructors to select 6 favorite images from each participant; organize slide show for the evening
 Dinner: Ranch Dining Room
 Evening: Group slide show farewells and closing comments
