Day 1: 3 p.m.: Hotel Check-In; 3-5 p.m.: Program Registration. 5:30 p.m.: Orientation and Welcome. 6:30 p.m.: Dinner in the hotel. You will be staying at Days Inn Inner Harbor that night.
  End of Program:
After breakfast on Day 8. 9 a.m. Departure transfer to BWI. Please do not schedule flights before 12 noon. Continue to Baltimore Inner Harbor for drop off at train station and the start location hotel You will be staying at Historic Inns of Annapolis the night before.

The BWI Marshall Light Rail Station is located immediately outside the lower level of the terminal building, adjacent to Concourse E. For schedules go to mta.maryland.gov/light-rail..Take the Light Rail toward Hunt Valley, a 28 minute ride to Pratt Street/Convention Center stop. After disembarking the Light Rail, proceed straight up S. Howard Street one block, turn right one block to Hopkins Place, the hotel is on the corner; .2 miles total distance.

Day 2: Baltimore’s Heritage and Role in America’s History
(Saturday, April 20)

Note: Walking up to 2 miles over the course of the day, mostly 4-5 blocks at a time, on paved and cobblestone street. Ascend and descend motorcoach steps, travel by water taxi and public transportation.
   
 Breakfast: Full American breakfast buffet in the hotel.
 Morning: Explore Baltimore by motorcoach and on foot, Learn how three towns - Fell's Point, Jonestown and Baltimore Town - combined to form Baltimore City. Walk through the Historic Landmark District of Mt. Vernon Place and visit the Peabody Library and the Garrett Jacobs Mansion. Learn the importance of Baltimore as a port city
 Lunch: In historic Fell’s Point.
 Afternoon: Explore Fell's Point on foot. This is Baltimore's premier historic waterfront town with a history that pre-dates Baltimore City. Discover the alley streets and charming architecture of Fell's Point, learn about the role of Privateers out of Fell's Point in the War of 1812 and the importance of water commerce in Maryland and it’s role in the westward expansion of America. Continue by motorcoach to Fort McHenry, where during the Battle of Baltimore, September 13-14, 181, the valiant defense of the star-shaped fort inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner." Cross the Inner Harbor by water taxi and return to the hotel on foot.

Day 3: Havre de Grace and the Mouth of the Chesapeake
(Sunday, April 21)

Note: Travel by motorcoach a total of 145 miles over the course of the day. Stepping on and off a sailboat, sailing and motoring on a boat for one hour.
   
 Breakfast: Full American breakfast buffet in the hotel.
 Morning: Depart Baltimore and drive to Havre de Grace, where the mouth of the Susquehanna River forms the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Board the skipjack MARTHA LEWIS to experience a vanishing tradition firsthand: She is one of the few remaining working dredge boats that make up the Chesapeake Bay oyster fleet and the last to fish commercially, under sail, in the USA. Learn about the preservation and conservation of the Chesapeake and its tributaries.
 Lunch: In a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: Continue down the Eastern Shore to Cambridge, situated at the mouth of the Choptank River.
 Dinner: In the hotel.
 Evening: Enjoy sunset views over the Choptank River.

Day 4: Historic Cambridge
(Monday, April 22)

Note: Motorcoach travel with multiple stops, embarking and disembarking the motorcoach multiple times throughout the day. Walking and standing in historic sites. Walking through a science facility laboratory.
   
 Breakfast: Full American breakfast buffet in the hotel.
 Morning: Experience the history of Cambridge, one of the oldest towns in Maryland. Gain insights on the homes built by famous architects, in architectural styles such as Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Romanesque, and Queen Anne. See the homes of sharp-shooter Annie Oakley, Clement Sulivan, who was the last of Lee's army to abandon Richmond in 1865 and four Maryland governors. Also view the Italianate courthouse designed by Richard Upjohn, as well as quaint waterman's houses, original 1904 brick street, lovely churches and Cambridge’s waterfront. End at the newly renovated Choptank River Lighthouse, to view the exact replica of a typical hexagonal Chesapeake lighthouse.
 Lunch: In a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: At the University of Maryland’s Horn Point Laboratory, the largest oyster hatchery on the East Coast. A lecture by a university faculty member and walk through the hatchery itself shows how scientists and local volunteers are working on the restoration of the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay as well as the challenges faced.
 Dinner: Your choice to explore local fare.

Day 5: Chesapeake Heritage and Wildlife
(Tuesday, April 23)

Note: Travel by motorcoach, embarking and disembarking motorcoach steps multiple times throughout the day, walking through a factory facility.
   
 Breakfast: Full American breakfast buffet in the hotel.
 Morning: Explore history and nature in the heart of Eastern Shore. At Bucktown Village and Store, learn how, in 1835, Harriet Tubman committed her first act of defiance by refusing to assist an overseer subdue another slave. Continue to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for views of the local wildlife, including waterfowl, shorebirds, turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, and perhaps the endangered Delmarva fox squirrel.
 Lunch: In a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: At a local crab factory, learn how Maryland’s famous crab goes from shell to can and the art of “picking” crab, still done better by people than machines. Then return to the resort for some time at leisure to enjoy the facilities and activities available.
 Dinner: Your choice to explore local fare.

Day 6: Chesapeake Maritime History in Oxford and St. Michael’s
(Wednesday, April 24)

Note: Travel by motorcoach, embarking and disembarking motorcoach steps multiple times throughout the day. Walking up to 1 mile on paved streets over the course of the day. Travel by motorized ferry for approximately 15 minutes. Walking and standing at an outdoor/indoor museum complex.
   
 Breakfast: Full American breakfast buffet in the hotel.
 Morning: Depart Cambridge, to Easton, to visit the Third Haven Meeting House, one of the oldest Quaker meeting houses in America. Drive through the center of historic Easton before continuing on to Oxford, where James Michener spent time researching his novel.
 Lunch: In a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: Walk aboard the Oxford ferry, to cross the Tred Avon River aboard the oldest ferry still in operation in America. Reboard the motorcoach on the opposite shore and continue to St. Michael’s to the Chesapeake Maritime Museum, to visit the Chesapeake’s largest maritime collection. Continue to Annapolis.

Day 7: Annapolis, Maryland’s State Capitol
(Thursday, April 25)

Note: Morning and afternoon guided walks lasting 1 ½ to 2 hours each. Walking up to 2 miles over the course of the day.

 Morning: Explore Annapolis on a walking exploration of the historic district.
 Lunch: In a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: Learn about U.S. Navy life past and present on the official Naval Academy tour.
 Dinner: Farewell Dinner.

Day 8: Departures
