John Winthrop famously christened the young Boston a “city upon a hill” upon which the “eyes of all people” would be trained. Since his 1630 sermon, Beantown has certainly lived up to his lofty proclamation. Walk the Freedom Trail and trace the story of America’s birth to Faneuil Hall, Old North Church and many other key sites. Enjoy insider experiences of Boston’s famous arts institutions and cultural treasures and embark on multiple expert-led field trips.

Sheldon Stern
Dr. Sheldon Stern taught U.S. history at the college level for more than a decade before becoming historian at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, Mass. He was the first non-member of the ExComm, and the first professional historian, to listen to all the secret White House tape recordings made during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. His new book, “The Cuban Missile Crisis in American Memory: Myths versus Reality,” marks the event’s 50th anniversary and will be published in September 2012.
 
Jeannette Fullerton
Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Jeannette Fullerton holds a B.Sc. from London University, a M.Ed. from Boston University and a Certificate of Museum Studies from Tufts University. She attended the Radcliffe Institute for Advance Study and was Coordinator for Public Education at the Harvard University Art Museums for eight years. Jeanette has also worked as a docent at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass., and a Doric Dame at the Massachusetts State House.

From the airport take the complimentary Massport shuttles bus # 66 (this bus picks up at all terminals) to the blue line airport stations. Take the blue line inbound to government center. At government center transfer to any outbound green line train. Exit at Arlington St. stop. At street level walk 1 block on Arlington St (make sure you are walking away from the park and walking with the follow of traffic on Arlington St.) and you will arrive at the hotel.

  From Logan Airport to Park Plaza: Follow signs to Sumner Tunnel/Boston. Take the ramp onto RT-1A S/William F McClellan Hwy. Merge north onto Interstate 93 and take the Storrow Drive - Exit 26. Follow Storrow Drive and exit left at Back Bay/Copley Exit. At lights, take left onto Beacon St, and then take an immediate right onto Arlington St. The Boston Park Plaza Hotel is the 2nd building on the left after the park.
  From the North to Park Plaza Take Route I-93 South into Boston. Take the Storrow Drive - Exit 26 off of I-93. Follow Storrow Drive and exit left at the Back Bay/Copley Exit. Day 2: JFK Lecture/Fieldtrip to JFK Library & Museum/Boston Athenaeum
(Friday, May 10)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast
 Morning: Presentation at the hotel by historian and author Sheldon Stern, followed by a fieldtrip to the JFK Library and Museum.
 Lunch: Lunch at the JFK Museum Cafe.
 Afternoon: Fieldtrip to the Boston Atheaneum. One of the oldest private libraries in the country, the Athenaeum has one of the most important collections of Confederate State imprints in the United States and substantial holdings of material related to the slavery and abolition movement in New England.
 Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant

Day 3: Behind the Scenes Tour of Symphony Hall/Lecture with a BSO Administrator/Instrument Demonstration with a Member of the Pops/Evening Boston Pops Concert

 Breakfast: Breakfast
 Morning: Free Morning to explore Boston's Back Bay, or go with the Group Leader on an optional excursion to Copley Plaza and step inside Trinity Church to discover why the building is heralded as one of the finest examples of American, ecclesiastical architecture.
 Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: Spend the afternoon at Boston's Symphony Hall. Enjoy a behind- the-scenes tour of Symphony Hall, and hear from an administrator about working for a world class orchesetra.
 Dinner: Dinner at the Symphony Hall Cafe.
 Evening: Enjoy a Boston Pops performance before returning to the hotel. (Date & time of performance may be adjusted )

Day 4: Boston Art Lecture/Museum of Fine Arts/Isabella Stewart Gardner/ Free Afternoon & Evening
(Sunday, May 12)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast
 Morning: Listen to a lecture by an expert on many art forms with a focus on the collections at the Gardner Museum and the MFA. Following the lecture, travel to the MFA. Use the knowledge you obtained from the morning's lecture to explore the museum's collections.
 Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the Courtyard Cafe at the MFA.
 Afternoon: Following lunch, travel to the Gardner Museum where you will explore the museum, including it's new wing, and get a walking presentation from an experienced docent. Afterwards, the rest of the day is yours to explore on your own. Dine in Back Bay, stroll down Newbury Street, or take the T across the Charles River and see Harvard University.

Day 5: Charles River Locks & Boston Harbor Cruise/USS Constitution and Charles Town Naval Yard/Explore Boston's Freedom Trail/Farewell Dinner
(Monday, May 13)

Note: In an effort to ensure the safety of all visitors to USS CONSTITUTION, additional measures have been implemented to the ship's security procedures. Visitors ages 18 and over wishing to embark USS CONSTITUTION may be subject to present a valid federal or state-issued photo ID at the ship's security entrance.



   
 Breakfast: Breakfast
 Morning: Enjoy a fully narrated cruise through the Charle's River Locks, and tour Boston's historic harbor. Learn about Boston's connection to the sea as you journey past the the Bunker Hill Monument and Charles town Naval Yard. Visit the USS Constitution before taking a water ferry back to the North End for lunch.
 Lunch: Lunch in the North End.
 Afternoon: Enjoy an escorted walk along Boston's Freedom Trail. Visit the Old North Church, Paul Revere's house, the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, Granary Burying Ground, the Old South Meeting House, and Boston Common.
 Dinner: Farewell Dinner at the hotel

Day 6: Massachusetts State House/Program Departures
(Tuesday, May 14)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast
 Morning: Venture to Beacon Hill for a tour of the Massachusetts State House. See the Governor's office, learn the history of the state seal, and discover the significance of the "Sacred Cod" (a wood carving of a Cod fish which hangs in the House of Representatives)
 Lunch: Return to the hotel for boxed lunches. Check Out is at 12:00PM
