From Greenwich Village to Central Park, New York City is teeming with legendary landmarks that both inspire and educate — and there’s no better way to get to these icons than by bicycle! With local cycling experts, pedal your way through the Big Apple via low-traffic and traffic-free bike paths. Experience Manhattan’s most notable neighborhoods, ride along the Brooklyn Bridge and make your way through the trails of Central Park. Along the way, stop to explore the medieval art collections of The Cloisters, and take in the dynamic exhibitions at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

Take the Airtran JFK monorail, making frequent stops at locations all around the airport, to the A train MTA subway stop "Howard Beach/ JFK Airport." From there, take the A train Manhattan bound to the Fulton St. Station. From the station it is a 10 minute walk or a short cab ride to the hotel. Take the A or C train downtown and get off at the Fulton St subway stop. From the station it is a 10 minute walk or a short cab ride to the hotel. When you arrive, please look for the NYC Airporter ticket sales counter outside of baggage claim, and at the Ground Transportation Welcome Centers at each Airport Terminal. Tickets may also be purchased online at NYC Airporter.com. Shuttles run every 20-30 minutes. Take Shuttle to GRAND CENTRAL STATION, then take the 4 or 5 train downtown to the Wall St. subway stop. After exiting the station, go down Rector St and take a right onto Washington St. The Hotel will be on your left.

  From John F. Kennedy Airport to Club Quarters, World Trade Center Take the Van Wyck Expressway to Grand Central Parkway West. Stay on the right and exit onto the Long Island Expressway. Continue onto Midtown Tunnel. Pay toll. Follow signs for Downtown to FDR Drive South. Take FDR Drive to the end. Follow signs to West Street (North). Turn right onto West Street. Turn right onto Albany Street. Turn left onto Washington Street. Hotel is on the left.
  From LaGuardia Airport to Club Quarters, World Trade Center Follow Grand Central Parkway towards Manhattan. Pay toll. Stay on left, following signs to FDR Drive. Take FDR Drive South to the very end. Follow signs to West Street (North). Hotel entrance is on West Street between Carlisle & Albany Streets. From Northwest: Follow I-95 North to the George Washington Bridge. Exit onto 9A The Henry Hudson Parkway South. Stay on Henry Hudson Parkway until the end. Henry Hudson Parkway becomes the West Side Highway. Follow West Side Highway to the end. West Side Highway becomes West Street. Continue on West Street South.   From Newark Airport to Club Quarters, World Trade Center Follow signs to New Jersey Turnpike North. Follow to exit 14C (Holland Tunnel). Make a left onto Battery Place, then another left to return to West Street. (You'll now be on the north bound lanes). Turn right onto Albany Street. Turn left onto Washington Street.   From the North to Club Quarters, World Trade Center ake I-95 South, towards the George Washington Bridge. Exit before the GWB at Henry Hudson Parkway South (will turn into the West Side Highway). Stay in the far right lanes and follow to the end. Make a left onto Battery Place, then another left to return to West Street. (You'll now be on the north bound lanes). Turn right onto Albany Street. Turn left onto Washington Street. Hotel is on the left.
  From the South to Club Quarters, World Trade Center Take the New Jersey Turnpike North (I-95) to the Holland Tunnel exit toll. Upon exiting the tunnel, make first right hand turn onto Laight Street. Go 3 blocks and make a left onto West Street. Stay in the far right lanes and follow to the end. Daily Schedule

Day 1: Registration and Welcome Dinner
(Thursday, August 22)
   
 Arrive To: Hotel Check-in available from 4:00 pm.
 Afternoon: REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar desk in the lobby to register with the program staff, pick up your arrival packet containing your name tag and up-to-date schedule, and other important information. Bike NYC is a new Road Scholar "Flex" program. It is different from other programs with more opportunities for you to dine out and explore on your own. Several meals have been excluded from the program cost and you will have substantial free time for personal independent exploration. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
 Dinner: Enjoy views of downtown New York City including the reflecting pools of the 9/11 Memorial, Freedom Tower, Manhattan’s harbor and the Verrazano Bridge while eating dinner at the hotel rooftop restaurant
 Evening: ORIENTATION: We'll have an informative overview of the program plus an opportunity to meet your fellow participants during an introductory get-acquainted session. We'll review the updated schedule, cover responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. (If you arrive late, please pick up your packet at the hotel front desk.)

Day 2: Cloisters Museum/Cycling the Hudson River Greenway/Intrepid Sea. Air and Space Museum
(Friday, August 23)
   
 Breakfast: At hotel
 Morning: Enjoy a visit to the Cloisters Museum, the branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. The museum was assembled from architectural elements, both domestic and religious, that date from the twelfth through the fifteenth century. Following the Cloisters, the group will pick up their bicycles and helmets and cycle along the car-free Hudson River Greenway. You will ride through Riverside Park, past tennis courts, marinas, and ending at Pier 84.
 Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch at Pier 84.
 Afternoon: Enjoy a guided visit of the Intrepid Sea. Air and Space Museum. Following the visit, continue to cycle along the Hudson River Greenway to Battery Park. Along the way, view famous sights such as the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Also, experience some on NYC's most famous nieghborhoods-Chelsea, Greenwich Village and Battery Park City.
 Dinner: After you arrive at Battery Park, you are free to enjoy the evening and dinner on your own. Local restaurant recommendations will be provided.

Day 3: 9/11 Memorial Visit/Cycling Central Park
(Saturday, August 24)
   
 Breakfast: At Hotel
 Morning: The group will begin the day with a moving experience at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, located next to the hotel. The National September 11 Memorial Museum serves as the principal institution for examining the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring the continuing significance of September 11, 2001. Following this visit, the group will take the Subway to Columbus Circle to begin their time in Central Park.
 Lunch: Enjoy lunch at Le Pain Quotidien, while listening to a Central Park historian give a lecture on the fascinating timeline of the Park.
 Afternoon: The group will spend the afternoon cycling around Central Park. Stops will include The Mall/Literary Walk, Bethesda Fountain, the Met/Cleopatra's Needle, Shakespeare Garden/Marionette Theater/Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields.
 Afternoon: Once the group has finished cycling through Central Park, participants will have free time to explore the area on their own. They will have the opportunity to visit The Met or the nearby Guggenheim.
 Dinner: Participants will have a chance to enjoy dinner on their own and experience New York's world-class dining.

Day 4: Cycling along the Brooklyn Bridge and New York Harbor
(Sunday, August 25)
   
 Breakfast: At Hotel
 Morning: The group will begin cycling at Battery Park, through downtown to City Hall and across the Brooklyn Bridge.  You will be able to stop mid-bridge for a perfect picture opportunity. Along the way you will see Bowling Green, Wall Street, City Hall Plaza, and enjoy incredible views of Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge.
 Lunch: You will end your morning ride at the Brooklyn Bridge park, where you will enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants.
 Afternoon: Continue cycling through some of through Dumbo and other Brooklyn neighborhoods, as well as along New York Harbor. Enjoy the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, views of Governors Island, and all of New York Harbor. Once you are done cycling for the day, you will have the opportunity to take a ride on the NY Water Taxi, where it will take you close by the Brooklyn Bridge, over to South Street Seaport, around southern tip of Manhattan and close to the Statue of Liberty, then up the Hudson to Pier 84.
 Dinner: Farewell Dinner

Day 5: Wrap-up Lecture/MyWay Pass
(Monday, August 26)
   
 Breakfast: At the hotel
 Morning: Enjoy a morning lecture at Battery Park. You will then have the opportunity to take advantage of cycling on your own throughout the city. There are various locations where you can pick up and drop off your bicycle and guides will be available to recommend routes for you. The hotel will be able to store your luggage for you if you would like ride all day.
