Program intended for grandchildren from 12 - 14 years of age.

Come to the Rogue River Valley and immerse yourself in southern Oregon’s beautiful, lush landscape. Raft the river, explore the depths of Oregon’s extensive cave systems, swing through the trees on a zip-line and spend quality time with your grandchild. Learn about the unique geology and amazing history of the mystical, magical Crater Lake, with its towering cliffs and sparkling blue waters, while you hike and discover its volcanic past.

• Learn about the unique geology and hydrology of the Rogue River before going on a thrilling raft ride.
• Explore a marble cave at Oregon Cave National Monument, and understand the importance of caves for fossil study, bat habitation and geologic research.
• Meet Oregon’s wildlife in a special animals presentation.

Grants Pass

Grants Pass is a classic Oregon river town on the legendary Rogue River in the state’s southwest corner. The surrounding mountains and old growth forests echo with the history of Hudson Bay trappers, settlers and loggers. Gentle rapids invite rafting and fishing, as well as explorations in nearby Crater Lake and the city’s historic downtown.

Hotel check-in begins at 4PM. Road Scholar registration is from 4:00-5:00PM. You will be staying at Riverside Inn that night.

Departure after breakfast. Hotel check-out by 11:00AM. You will be staying at Riverside Inn the night before.
  Required documents:
The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. A safety waiver is required for the rafting activities. The Synergo Challenge Course form is required, along with the Intergenerational Rules & Regulations Form. Young learners also need to return the Parental Consent Form (one per child). Please send all completed forms to the Road Scholar provider office in Clackamas, OR (we will turn in the forms as a group).

(1.1mi) Continue on East Pine St. (.5mi) Turn Right to merge onto I-5 north Take exit 58 and turn left at the end of the off ramp putting you directly onto 6th Street. Go slightly over two miles. The Riverside Inn is on the right side directly before crossing the Caveman Bridge.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Program orientation and meeting your fellow participants.
(Sunday, July 21)
   
 Arrive To: Road Scholar registration is in the lobby from 4:00-5:00PM. Meet your Group Leaders and fellow participants!
 Dinner: Gather in the lobby at 5:00 to head out for dinner and orientation. Enjoy dinner with all of your fellow participants at a delicious restaurant in downtown Grants Pass.
 Evening: At orientation, your Group Leaders will introduce themselves, and you'll learn all about the fun you'll be having in the days ahead!

Day 2: Explore the beautiful Oregon Caves!
(Monday, July 22)

Note: Note: Today's trip to the caves includes a 90min underground tour with 500 steps and walking uphill for 5-10min durations. Children must be at least 42in tall and pass a stair test unassisted.
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a continental breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.
 Morning: Travel to the Oregon Caves, enjoying all the beautiful, fascinating scenery along the way! Once you arrive, you'll take a tour through a marble cave, and discover how the geology, fossils, cave life, bats, watershed, old-growth forest, and human history make Oregon Caves significant.
 Lunch: Enjoy a delicious lunch in the Oregon Caves Chateau, known for their classic milkshakes! After lunch, take a few minutes to explore the historic chateau, built by the Conservation Corps in 1934.
 Afternoon: Spend the afternoon on a guided hike in the Oregon Caves National Monument, recently expanded from 750 to 3,000 acres.
 Dinner: Relax after your caving adventure at a picnic dinner at Riverside Park in Grants Pass.
 Evening: Wow! Who knew you could get so up-close and personal with wild animals?! Tonight, head off to Wildlife Images, a rehabilitation and education center, where you'll learn about the animals of Southern Oregon and make some new feathered and furry friends!

Day 3: Hear the 'Rogue River Story' and then have your own river rafting adventure!
(Tuesday, July 23)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a continental breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.
 Morning: Load up and head out for a fun and exciting day of rafting on the beautiful Rogue River!
 Morning: Meet with the group to hear the 'Rogue River Story' from your instructor. Learn to identify the flora and fauna of the Rogue River and discover the unique geology of this beautiful, powerful river that cuts across the Coast Range and the Siskiyou National Forest on its way to the Pacific Ocean.

Load up and head out for a fun and exciting day of rafting on the beautiful Rogue River!
 Lunch: Your river guides will provide you with a delicious lunch while you relax by the river.
 Afternoon: Continue your rafting trip on the beautiful Rogue River, the perfect combination of incredible geography, sparkling water, sunshine and fresh breezes. You'll see why rafting the Rogue is such a popular activity in Southern Oregon.
 Dinner: Enjoy a great meal at another Grants Pass restaurant!
 Evening: Return to the hotel for a relaxing evening of free time. Rumor has it that the hotel pool feels fabulous after a full day of rafting and exploring!

Day 4: Explore magical, mystical Crater Lake
(Wednesday, July 24)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a continental breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.
 Morning: Travel to Crater Lake, a magical place that has inspired people for hundreds of years. You'll find a deep, pure lake, sheer cliffs almost two thousand feet high, two picturesque islands, and a place with a very violent volcanic past. Immeasurably beautiful, Crater Lake is an outstanding outdoor laboratory, classroom and playground.
 Lunch: Eat your picnic lunch while enjoying one of the most beautiful views in the world!
 Afternoon: There are so many great spots to explore at Crater Lake! Hike, learn and play!
 Dinner: Enjoy another delicious dining experience in Grants Pass.

Day 5: Spend the day at an outdoor challenge course and enjoy dinner in Ashland!
(Thursday, July 25)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a continental breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.
 Morning: Head out in the morning to the Earth Teach challenge course. Get ready to explore your boundaries with the group as you work the challenge course together under the guidance of facilitators.
 Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch under the trees at the challenge course.
 Afternoon: This afternoon, continue the challenge course. There will be an opportunity for high elements for those who wish to swing through the trees!
 Dinner: Head down to the scenic town of Ashland for a celebration dinner. Relive the highlights of the week before heading back to Grants Pass for the night.

Day 6: Check-Out

 Breakfast: Enjoy a continental breakfast in the lobby of the hotel.
