  Start of Program:
Program registration is between 4:00-5:00PM in the hotel lobby. Orientation and introductions take place before dinner. You will be staying at Hotel Santa Barbara that night.
  End of Program:
Please make your travel arrangements so you can join us on a walking field trip to the Santa Barbara Courthouse for a guided to. The program ends when the group returns to the hotel about 11:00AM. You will be staying at Hotel Santa Barbara the night before.
  Required documents:
The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. On the enclosed Participation Information Form (PIF), please indicate to us the name of your roommate/traveling companion. Also let us know if you are traveling with other individuals and wish to be assigned a room near them. Photo ID

Day 1: Independent Arrival/Introductions

 Afternoon: HOTEL CHECK-IN: Check into the hotel after 3:00PM.

PROGRAM REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and pick up your arrival packet which we'll review during our orientation session.

ORIENTATION: We'll have an overview of the program ahead and review the up-to-date schedule, responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, any other administrative issues, and answer your questions. Please be aware that local circumstances may require adjusting program elements. In the event of changes, we will notify you as quickly as possible. We appreciate your understanding.

CROSSING POINTS: Getting to know your fellow participants.

 Dinner: Dinner at a local Santa Barbara restaurant.

FOR THIS PROGRAM--Menus are contracted for the program and are designed to offer balanced, healthy meals for the participants.

Since meals are served in a group setting, it is difficult to adjust to individual dietary requests. If you are unable to eat what is on the regular menu, a vegetarian alternative is available, if not already part of the menu. Since alternative meal arrangements have to be made in advance, please indicate your need for a vegetarian entree on the enclosed Participant Information Form. If you have other dietary concerns, you can order (at your own expense) from a different menu.

Day 2: Julia Child Bio/Santa Barbara City College Culinary School/Wine Tasting

Note: One must be prepared to get on/off mini bus and walk a short distance from bus to John Dunn Gourmet Dining Room at Santa Barbara City College School of Culinary Arts

FIELD TRIP: Transportation is provided to the Santa Barbara City College Culinary School for lunch.

A friend of Julia Child's introduces several flavors of Santa Barbara Wine Country. We'll taste and compare, finding the wine you like best.

 Dinner: Dinner on your own--Enjoy an opportunity to savor the flavors of Santa Barbara at the restaurant of your choice.

Day 3: Food Preparation Demonstration/Santa Barbara Farmers Market/Julia Child Inspired Dinner
(Tuesday, October 8)

Note: The walk from the hotel to the location of the Food Preparation Demonstration is 1 mile one way. Another option is to take the State St. shuttle which runs every 30 min along State St. It would get you within a 3 block walk of the food demonstation location. The guided walk through the Santa Barbara Farmers Market takes place in the 500 & 600 blocks of State St. Hotel is located at 533 State St.

Day 4: Independent Departure/Santa Barbara Courthouse
(Wednesday, October 9)

Note: From the hotel, walk 0.5 miles one way to the restaurant for breakfast and then 0.1 mile one way to the Santa Barbara Courthouse for the guided walk.



   
 Breakfast: Julia Child inspired breakfast is served at a local restaurant, conveniently located near the Santa Barbara Courthouse.
 Morning: WALKING FIELD TRIP: Santa Barbara Courthouse

Explore the Santa Barbara Courthouse, the jewel in Santa Barbara's architectural crown, on a private one-hour guided walk. A bonus is the must-see view of Julia Child's Santa Barbara from the top of the 85 foot clock tower. The group walks back to the hotel, returning at about 11:00AM.
