In the northwest of India is the state of Rajasthan, “The Land of Kingdoms,” where once chivalrous warrior princes built hilltop forts and camels raced across the scorched Thar Desert. In the state capital of Jaipur, experience an India beyond the reach of tourists while making a difference in the lives of Indian children. Teach conversational English to students at a traditional Indian public school, experiencing the educational system in classrooms ranging from 6th to 12th grade. Immerse yourself in daily life from savoring delicious meals to riding the bustling metro system.

Visit the great landmarks of New Delhi, including Gandhi’s home and Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn to navigate the transportation and culture of India in Delhi with the help your group leader. In Jaipur, spend the first day observing a class at the Kalwar Public School before you begin tutoring and working in the classroom with your Indian counterpart. Welcome the routine of teaching children in the morning and then exploring Jaipur and Kalwar in the afternoons. Ride elephants up to the Amber Fort — an 11th-century Maharaja's palace that blends Hindu and Muslim styles. Set out on a camel trek and watch a game of street cricket. Visit an NGO in Kalwar that serves meals to the poor. Take the train to Agra, then set out pre-dawn to watch the rising sun bathe the pristine white marble of one of the world’s most stunning monuments — the Taj Mahal.

The natural wealth of India’s territories lured a succession of traders and foreign influences to it, each leaving their imprint on the nation, however faint or localized. 	Start of Program: Program begins on day 2 at the bed and breakfast in the late evening in Delhi. You will be staying at Tree of Life that night.

Taxi from New Delhi airport to hotel is available. Airports Authority of India in coordination with Delhi Traffic Police is now providing 'Prepaid Taxi Service' for arriving passengers at Domestic and International Terminals to ensure safe travel up to their destination. Approved rate of fare for various locations in the city are displayed inside the counter. Prepaid taxi counters are located outside customs hall in concessionaire area and outside Arrival Visitors Lounge (West Wing). Payment is made in advance at counters and coupons are issued. Pickup points are located just outside the terminals. No reliable public bus or subway transport available. Please note that the transfer from the airport takes about 40 to 50 minutes. Private arrival and departure transfers -at an additional cost- may be arranged in advance by the calling Road Scholar Travel Services.

Note: Your group leader will not be staying with you at the bed and breakfast in Delhi. However, the owners of the bed and breakfast are there to take care of you during the evening. Your group leader will be there during the day. Note that you will also be given a cell phone during your stay in India. It will have pre-programmed phone numbers and your group leader will show you how to use it.

Day 3:

Old Delhi / Qutub Minar/ Lecture on Public Education in India
(Thursday, March 14)

Note: Moderately Challenging Day. The group will be required to use the metro system in Delhi as well as some walking.

Breakfast:	Breakfast at accommodation. Then join your group leader for a brief language lesson.
Morning:	Then depart for your first visit to Old Delhi, with its narrow dirt roads, its myriad people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. Ride on the bicycle rickshaws, which takes you into the heart of Chandni Chowk. Negotiating alleyways, which seemingly get narrower and narrower, you end up at the Jama Masjid, the largest Muslim mosque in India.
Lunch:	Lunch in Old Delhi.
Afternoon:	Lecture:Public education systems in India and group discussion on cultural differences and learning styles.
Afternoon:	Visit Qutub Minar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Qutub Minar was constructed with red sandstone and marble, and is the tallest minaret in India, with a height of 237.8 ft and has 379 stairs to reach the top. Then walk back to your accommodation.

Discovering Gandhi Smriti / Salaam-Baalak Trust / Discovering New Delhi
(Friday, March 15)

Note: Moderately Challenging Day. The group will be required to use the metro system in Delhi.

Breakfast:	Breakfast at accommodation.
Morning:	Discovering Gandhi Smriti: This house is where the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi lived, received most of his famous visitors and it was here on January 30, 1949,that he was assassinated. The house has since been converted into a museum. Enjoy an exclusive presentation on the life and principles of Gandhi by a guest lecturer.
Lunch:	Lunch at restaurant in New Delhi.
Afternoon:	Visit Connaught Place which is the heart of New Delhi and spend some time with the guides of the NGO Salaam Baalak Trust, who have developed an exciting city walk through the enchanting streets of the inner-city of Paharganj and the New Delhi railway station area. Nobody knows Delhi's streets better than the young people who are fully trained as guides. These spirited youngsters will share their life journey and take you on a guided walk by visiting the schools that are funded by this walk.
Afternoon:	Visit Humayun's tomb which is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The tomb was commissioned by Humayun's wife Hamida Banu Begum in 1562 AD. It was the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent.
Dinner:	Dinner as a group in New Delhi.

Visit a local pottery studio/ market activity/ free time

Morning:	Explore Dilli Haat an open-air food and craft bazaar located in Delhi. Dilli Haat has permanent food and craft stalls representing each state of India, giving a complete variety of tastes available all over India.
Morning:	Visit local pottery studio and learn about the process of making clay, glazing and have a chance to work with Indian experts.
Lunch:	Lunch on your own to sample local fare.

Train to Jaipur/Introduction to International Service Learning
(Sunday, March 17)

Note: Moderately Challenging Day. The group will be required to take a local train from Delhi to Jaipur on your own. You will be dropped off at the train station and your luggage will be taken to your cabin for you. Upon arrival in Jaipur, there will be someone to meet you at the train station and take you to the bed and breakfast.

Morning:	Indian Culture and Festivals Presentation: The role of Festivals in Indian culture led by your coordinator and learn about the cultural and social importance of festival in Indian society.

Afternoon:	The first day at the Public School will be used as an observation day.

Service Learning/Discovering Jaipur/City Palace/ Amber Fort
(Tuesday, March 19)

Note: Local group leader will pick you up at Castle Kalwar and take you through the sites of Jaipur.

Morning:	Jaipur is popularly known as the "Pink City", from the pink-colored sandstone of the buildings in the old walled city. On your exploration of this afternoon, visit: The City Palace which stands in the center of the city. Part of it is still the Maharaja's residence, while most of the complex has been developed into a museum containing rare manuscripts, fine specimens of Rajput and Mughal paintings, back scratchers, royal apparel and an armory. The observatories, or "Jantar Mantars" as they are commonly known, incorporate multiple buildings of unique form, each with a specialized function for astronomical measurement. These structures with their striking combinations of geometric forms, have captivated the attention of architects, artists, and art historians world-wide. Discovering the Amber Fort: Enjoy an afternoon exploring the Amber Fort. Amber, the capital of Rajasthan for 6 centuries before Jaipur was built, lies 11 km north of Jaipur. Rising majestically on the slopes of a hill, this 11th century fort and palace complex is a blend of Hindu and Muslim styles. Ride elephants up to the Amber Fort (use jeeps for the descent).

Afternoon:	Start your afternoon by tutoring English to the students of Kalwar Public School. You will be immersed in a large Rajasthani school with students in grades 6th-12th. After tutoring, discuss your experience with the Service Learning facilitator. Prepare lesson plans.

Afternoon:	Start your afternoon by tutoring English to the students of Kalwar Public School. You will be immersed in a large Rajasthani school with students in grades 6th-12th. After tutoring, discuss your experience with the Service Learning facilitator. Prepare lesson plans.

Evening:	Transfer back to your accommodation.

Morning:	Prepare Teaching Aid and discuss the weeks progress and achievements.

Day 12:

Taj Mahal/ Agra Fort/ Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s tomb
(Saturday, March 23)

Breakfast:	Breakfast at hotel.
Morning:	Set out pre-dawn to watch the rising sun bathe the pristine white marble of the Taj Mahal in warm hues of gold, ochre and orange. Take some time to explore the exquisite grounds and view the highly decorated inner chamber. Return to the hotel for breakfast, then explore Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb.
Lunch:	Lunch at local restaurant.
Afternoon:	Exploring Agra Fort and Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb, led by your Study Leader visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb, popularly known as "baby Taj", this is the tomb of Mirza Ghiyash Begh. He became a very powerful person, more so when the Emperor Jahangir married his daughter Noor Jahan. The tomb was designed by Noor Jahan and was the first Mughal building using marble inlay work. Next visit Agra Fort, Originally planned as an impregnable military structure by Akbar, the Agra Fort, over a period of time, acquired all the elegance, lavishness and majesty of an imperial palace. Situated 3 km upstream of the Taj Mahal on the right bank of the Yamuna.
