Driving Directions
All locations
We will meet at 4:30 PM on the first day of the trip at the Almeda Bar Campground, near the town of Galice. Look for us in the main parking lot. Galice is roughly 400 miles north of San Francisco, California, and 250 miles south of Portland, Oregon. To get to Almeda Bar Campground, take Interstate 5 to the Merlin exit (exit # 61), five miles north of Grants Pass, then follow the signs to Merlin. This will put you on the main road, which passes through Merlin and continues to Galice, about 20 miles west of I-5. Almeda Bar is roughly three miles past Galice, on the right-hand side, between the road and the river. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Grants Pass to Galice.
Elevation Note:
Elevations below 3,000 feet except during return drive, when elevations reach 5,000 feet.
Equipment Requirements:
Sleeping bag, pad, and tent. We offer camping equipment for rent to those who do not own or do not wish to transport this gear. High quality, two-person backpacking style tents are available for a $40 per tent rental fee (per trip). Sleep kits (15 degree rated synthetic sleeping bag, cotton bag liner, self-inflating sleep pad, and ground cloth) are also available, for $40 per person. Supplies are limited, so please place your rental gear reservation request well in advance by calling the O.R.E. office at 1-800-827-1358. Rental fees are payable by check or by credit or debit card.
