John Kriskiewicz

John Kriskiewicz, a native New Yorker, is an architectural historian with a professional degree in architecture from Pratt University. He teaches several courses concerning the architectural and planning history of New York City at Parsons School of Design and The Cooper Union. He is the director of history and architecture programs for Discover New York with Kitt Garrett, Inc. John also does research for architectural firms and has written the introduction to the book, "Manhattan Skyscrapers.”
 
Gerry McGee

Gerry McGee is a native New Yorker who grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He graduated from Manhattan College and worked in Midtown as a corporate vice president for more than 40 years. Gerry is a board member and treasurer of Music Before 1800, Inc., which presents eight concerts of early music each season on Sunday afternoons.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Registration/Orientation
(Sunday, June 23)
   
 Afternoon: Hotel check-in available after 3:30pm. 4:00pm: After checking in at the hotel front desk, come to the designated meeting room (it will be posted in the lobby) to register with your Program Coordinator and pick up your arrival packet. Programs are planned far in advance, so local circumstances may require changes from time to time. We will notify you as quickly as possible should there be any changes and appreciate your understanding.
 Dinner: 5:00pm: Enjoy your first meal at the colorful Tick Tock Diner, located just off the hotel lobby. This 24-hour diner features classic American cooking. White and black checkered floors and shiny chrome columns enhance the all-American ambience. Dinner in The diner is available and included even if you arrive late. Our meal is scheduled for 5:00pm so that we can get through orientation and have some time to explore on your own. If your arrival is delayed, please attend orientation and then eat afterwards.
 Evening: 6:15pm: We begin our orientation to the program and introduce staff and members of the group. We’ll review the schedule and any updates and answer any questions you may have. Following orientation we will have an optional visit the Empire State Building.

Day 2: Lecture/Visit Brooklyn/Walk Brooklyn Heights and the Brooklyn Bridge
(Monday, June 24)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast in Meeting Room
 Morning: Often we start our week with an introduction to New York City and its five boroughs
 Lunch: Lunch in Meeting Room
 Afternoon: Today we visit Brooklyn
 Dinner: Dine in a Brooklyn neighborhood restaurant
 Evening: Walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge

Day 3: Visit Staten Island/Optional guided walk thru lower Manhattan to World Trade Center Site/neighborhood walk in the evening
(Tuesday, June 25)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast in Meeting Room
 Morning: Cruise across the harbor on the Staten Island Ferry and head to Sailors' Snug Harbor with its magnificent Greek Revival architecture, lush gardens and Chinese Scholars' Garden brought over brick by brick from the orient.
 Lunch: Lunch in a Staten Island neighborhood restaurant
 Afternoon: Energy permitting, walk up lower Manhattan to view the progress at the World Trade Center site on your way back to the hotel.
 Dinner: Dine in neighborhood restaurant
 Evening: An optional tour of one of New York's historic neighborhoods may be arranged.

Day 4: Visit Queens on the International Express
(Wednesday, June 26)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast in Meeting Room
 Morning: Visit the ethnically diverse neighborhoods of Queens
 Lunch: Lunch in Queens
 Afternoon: Free Afternoon and Evening to Explore New York on your own, take in a show or visit the site of two world's fairs and the fantastic panorama at the Queens Museum
 Dinner: Evening is free for you to create your own dining experience.

Day 5: Lecture/Private Bus Tour of Manhattan and the Bronx/Optional guided walk
(Thursday, June 27)
   
 Breakfast: Continental Breakfast in Meeting Room
 Morning: Lecture on New York City. Then, board a private coach and tour the Upper West Side of Manhattan on our way to The Bronx
 Lunch: Lunch is on your own in the Little Italy section of The Bronx
 Afternoon: Tour continues through The Bronx and the Upper East Side of Manhattan
 Dinner: Dinner in a neighborhood restaurant
 Evening: We may offer a guided neighborhood walk or visit to a museum open late, as available.
