Program intended for grandchildren from 8 - 12 years of age.

Enjoy an unforgettable outdoor adventure in the spectacular Colorado High Country near Aspen. Go rafting and hike among wildflowers and breathtaking views. Enjoy a day in the nearby town of Glenwood Springs with its famous hot springs pool and waterslide, then travel by cable car to discover the historic Glenwood Caverns descending into fairylike limestone formations. Renew and strengthen your intergenerational relationships in the cool clear mountain air!

Snowmass

Snowmass Village is a thriving community nestled in Western Colorado’s Snowmass Maroon Bells Wilderness Area and West Elk Mountain Range. The town is known as a gateway to world famous skiing, and is home to one of the most important paleontological sites in Colorado.

Arrive and hotel check-in 3 - 5:00 pm. Required orientation at 5:00 pm. You will be staying at The Stonebridge Inn that night.

Driving Directions
  Snowmass Village from East or West-Interstate 70 Follow I-70 west or east to exit 116 in Glenwood Springs, take Exit 116, to Hwy 82. Follow the signs for Snowmass Village/Snowmass Ski Area. In approximately 38 miles, turn right onto Brush Creek Road at the traffic light, following signs toward Snowmass Village/Snowmass Ski Area. Take Brush Creek Road for six miles until you enter Snowmass Village. On the right will be the Village Center and a small Conoco gas station. Take a left onto Wood Road. Take an immediate right on to Carriage Way. Stonebridge Inn is located 2 1/2 blocks up the road on the left hand side--directly across from parking lots #1 and #2.

Equipment Requirements: Good walking hiking shoes, clothing layers and outer layer for warm sunny days to cool, breezy days with thunder showers, water bottle, daypack

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check-in, Welcome and Orientation
(Friday, June 28)

Note: Accommodations are in the conveniently located Stonebridge Inn, double occupancy rooms with private bath. Check-in is on Sunday at the Hotel Lobby from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Road Scholar Orientation begins at 5:00 sharp. The Hotel has a large heated swimming pool and spa, use of which is included in the Program.
   
 Afternoon: 5:00 PM - We will have an informative overview of the program to come plus an opportunity to talk with program staff and your fellow participants during an introductory “get-acquainted” session.
 Dinner: Buffet dinner at Stonebridge Inn. Meals: Breakfasts will be at the Stonebridge Inn and is a hot buffet, Lunches will be provided either as a Box Lunch or Restaurant meal depending upon activities. Dinners will be in restaurants or catered in the hotel. One dinner is on your own to explore the Snowmass Village cuisine. The Program ends after breakfast on Friday.
 Evening: Important program information will be continued.

Day 2: Silver mine tour and Aspen Environmental Learning Center Activities
(Saturday, June 29)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet Stonebridge Inn
 Morning: NOTE: All activities in this daily itinerary are subject to change due to group needs and weather. Activities such as mine trip, raft trip will occur although the day may change from this itinerary. Discover the mining heritage of Aspen with an exciting trip underground to a working silver mine.
 Lunch: Box lunch
 Afternoon: Travel to Maroon Bells Lake for a hike around the lake with a naturalist.
 Dinner: Buffet at Stonebridge Inn
 Evening: Free time to enjoy the swimming pool at the hotel.

Day 3: Hike above treeline; Visit to Mammoth and Bison Dig Site
(Sunday, June 30)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet Stonebridge Inn
 Morning: Ride up the Snowmass Ski Area gondola and then hike above treeline amongst fields of wildflowers. Learn about and experience the natural history of the area.
 Lunch: Box lunch
 Afternoon: Continue morning hike.
 Dinner: Dinner on own and time to explore Snaowmass Village.
 Evening: Free to enjoy the swimming pool or walk around Snowmass Village

Day 4: Glenwood Springs Hot Springs, Waterslide and Glenwood Caverns, Rodeo
(Monday, July 1)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet Stonebridge Inn
 Morning: Enjoy a day in the nearby town of Glenwood Springs with its famous hot springs pool and waterslide plus travel by cable car to discover the historic Glenwood Caverns descending into its fairylike limestone formations.
 Lunch: Box lunch
 Afternoon: Morning activities continue
 Dinner: Dinner will be a BBQ at the Rodeo
 Evening: Attend the Snowmass Rodeo

Day 5: Raft Trip on the Roaring Fork River
(Tuesday, July 2)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet Stonebridge Inn
 Morning: Raft depending on water levels, the Roaring Fork or Colorado River with naturalists floating through canyons, and wildlife-birding habitats.
 Lunch: Box lunch
 Afternoon: Continue raft trip, afterwards afternoon activities consisting of separate youth and adult challenge games plus joint activities.
 Dinner: Buffet Stonebridge Inn
 Evening: Special evening closing activity
