Join experts amid the hills, forests and meadows of this region to interpret these seasonal telltales as they appear. Walk with a naturalist through local ecosystems to observe bird and wildlife activity and study the natural forces that characterize this corner of America. Hike the shores of Lake Cumberland, share stories of adventure around evening campfires and learn tree identification in the surrounding woodlands.

All 62 sleeping rooms have been recently redecorated. We have 30 sleeping rooms that have a double bed and a set of bunk beds, and we have 32 sleeping rooms that have 2 sets of bunks beds in each room. Each room has a private bath and dressing area.

Lodge has a beautiful lobby area with large screen TV, stone fireplace and comfortable leather furniture. Our large dining hall has cathedral ceilling, large windows this with beautiful countryside views.

Take Nancy exit of Cumberland Parkway, exit 78. Follow signs to the Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center. Approx 16 miles from the Nancy exit.

Take I-75 Traveling South, Exit at Exit # 62 (Renfro Valley) Turn right onto RT 461 toward Somerset, Travel 16 miles on this road, At intersection of Rt#80, turn right toward Somerset, travel 8 miles, Rt #80 will become the Cumberland Parkway West, take Exit # 78 (Nancy Exit) follow signs to Lake Cumberland 4-H Center (approx 15 miles after exiting the Cumberland Parkway.)

Breakfast/Bird Walk/Overview of the region/Nature Walk/Lunch/Hike to the Lake/Campfire
(Monday, April 15)
Breakfast:
8:00am Breakfast in the Leadership Center Cafeteria
Morning:
9:00am-10:00am - We will present a general overview describing the forces of nature that characterize this region. Program will take place in the meeting room.
Morning:
10:00am-11:45am The instructor will lead a trail walk through the Adjoining 4-H Camp area to familiarize you with the forests and other components of the ecosystems of south central Kentucky
Morning:
7:00am-8:00am Before Breakfast, we'll check bird activities around the facility

12:00pm Lunch in the Leadership Center Cafeteria
Afternoon:
1:30pm A 2 mile hike will be conducted to Lake Cumberland on of the largest reservoirs in the state. You drop 300 feet in elevation to get there and then on the return, you must pay back that difference.

Evening:
7:30pm We will have an evening around a campfire sharing stories and tales of adventures in nature.

9:00am-11:30am We'll learn to recognize the characteristics of the variety of trees in Kentucky. A hike will take us into the woods to find as many different trees as we can.

12:00pm Served in the cafeteria
Afternoon:
1:30pm-4:00pm Tracking and Animal signs. Instructors will lead a hike to discover signs of wildlife.
Dinner:
6:00pm In the cafeteria
Evening:
7:30pm A Naturalist will present a program of animal folklore.

7:30pm A program featuring Southwestern High School Raptor Rehabilitation Programs. Live birds will be displayed during the program.

1:30pm-4:00pm We'll take an excursion to the Mill Springs Battlefield Museum and we'll also visit the village of Jabez, KY to learn about the culture of the area.
