Have you ever dreamed of playing a musical instrument? Well, there is a time for all things, and this could be your time! Have fun learning to play the dulcimer, a traditional fretted string instrument born here in the Appalachian region of the United States. Playing beautiful music on the mountain or lap dulcimer does not require any previous musical experience.




Highlights

• Lessons include tuning, reading musical notations, using capos, chords, and strumming for beginning, intermediate and advanced students.
• All skill levels will be taught in classes led by qualified, friendly, patient musicians.
• Evenings present opportunities for jamming, discussion or just listening while enjoying the peaceful environment from a rocking chair on the deck.

Atop the rolling hills of south central Kentucky, Lake Cumberland was created by the construction of the Wolf Creek Dam and today, the lake’s 1,000-mile shoreline invites those seeking a refreshing dip or leisurely boat ride. This small, lakeside community surrounded by meadows and forest, offers breath-taking views.

Rustic wood-and-stone lodge located in a peaceful wooded setting high above majestic Lake Cumberland. Delicious meals are served in a spacious, lovely dining room.

Registration begins at 2:00 PM at center in Nancy, KY. You will be staying at Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center that night.
  End of Program:
Program ends after final class from 1:00-2:30 pm. You will be staying at Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center the night before.

The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. Completed health form returned to Program Coordinator prior to arrival. Valid photo ID such as driver's license.

  Louie B Nunn/Cumberland Parkway Take Nancy exit of Louie B Nunn/Cumberland Parkway, exit 78. Follow signs to the Lake Cumberland 4-H Edcuational Center. Approximately 15 miles from the Nancy exit.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival and Check-In/Welcome and Orientation
(Sunday, April 7)
   
 Afternoon: Registration starts at 3:00 pm
 Dinner: Dinner at 6:00 PM at the conference center.
 Evening: Participate in evening classes and learn how to play a dulcimer if you are a beginner or join advanced classes if you already are a dulcimer player and want to learn more.
 Evening: Welcome program at 7:00 PM.

Day 2: Mountain Dulcimer/Evening Entertainment
(Monday, April 8)
   
 Breakfast: 7:30 AM breakfast at the conference center.
 Morning: Get hands on experience playing the Dulcimer. If you don't have one, there will be ones available for rent.
 Morning: 9:00-Noon Learn to play mountain dulcimer based on your ability: beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
 Lunch: 12:00 NOON lunch at the conference center.
 Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM Continue your dulcimer class by learning new songs and techniques. All classes are divided based on your ability.
 Dinner: 6:00 PM dinner at the conference center.
 Evening: 7:00-8:30 PM Local Kentucky artists perform.

Day 3: Mountain Dulcimer/Mountain dulcimer/Evening Entertainment
(Tuesday, April 9)
   
 Breakfast: 7:30 AM breakfast at the conference center.
 Morning: 9:00-Noon Learn to play or increase your ability on the dulcimer.
 Lunch: 12:00 NOON lunch at the conference center.
 Afternoon: Take a field trip to local country general store and enjoy a ice cream cone. Take a field trip to "Lookout Point" to enjoy beautiful Lake Cumberland .
 Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM Continue your training in dulcimer based on your ability.
 Dinner: 6:00 PM dinner at the conference center.
 Evening: 7:00-8:30 PM Local Kentucky artists perform.

Day 4: Mountain Dulcimer/Evening Entertainment

 Breakfast: 7:30 AM breakfast at the conference center.
 Morning: Enjoy music from well known Dulcimer player.
 Morning: 9:00-Noon Traditional dulcimer class based on your ability.
 Lunch: 12:00 NOON lunch at the conference center.
 Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM Your dulcimer class continues with new songs and techniques.
 Dinner: 6:00 PM dinner at the conference center.
 Evening: 7:00-8:30 PM Local Kentucky artists perform.

Day 5: Mountain Dulcimer/Evening Entertainment
(Thursday, April 11)
   
 Breakfast: 7:30 AM breakfast at the conference center.
 Morning: 9:00- NOON Traditional mountain dulcimer class based on your abilities.
 Lunch: 12:00 NOON lunch at the conference center.
 Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM Your dulcimer class continues with new songs and techniques.
 Dinner: 6:00 PM dinner at the conference center.
 Evening: 7:00-8:30 PM Local Kentucky artists perform. Or maybe dulcimer students from this week perform!
 Evening: Enjoy jamming with other guests to share your talents on the Dulcimer.

Day 6: Mountain Dulcimer
(Friday, April 12)
   
 Breakfast: 7:30 AM breakfast at the conference center.
 Morning: 9:00-Noon Final morning to learn and practice your new found abilities!
 Lunch: 12:00 NOON lunch at the conference center.
 Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM Final opportunity to improve your dulcimer techniques. Departure after final class.
