The beautiful coast of the Chesapeake Bay is home to more than 30 lighthouses that tell the stories of the region’s rich maritime heritage. This adventure takes you by land and by sea to get a first-hand look at 10 of the Chesapeake’s historic lighthouses. Learn about the different styles of lighthouses typical of the region, hear their intriguing histories, and the stories of the men and the women who kept them lit. Explore Smith Island — a place that time forgot — and have lunch at the island’s famous Bayside Inn. Enjoy talks by local lighthouse experts, entertainment by maritime musicians, and special behind-the-scenes explorations of local museums.

One hour and 20 minutes south of Washington, D.C., this historic waterfront community with the Patuxent River on one side and the Chesapeake Bay on the other continues to honor its maritime tradition, as noted by the local marine museum.

Day 1: Arrival and orientation/Welcome to Southern Maryland/Tour of Cove Pt. Lighthouse
(Monday, June 3)

Note: The program opens with the director's famous behind-the scenes tour at the museum.



   
 Afternoon: 1:00 p.m. Meet Diane in Calvert Marine Museum lobby for orientation. 1:45 See the Calvert Marine Museum 3:00 pm. Check in at Holiday Inn Solomons. 5:30 p.m. Wine and Cheese in Drum Point Lighthouse. 6:00 p.m. Dinner under the Drum Point Lighthouse. 7:00 p.m. Behind the Scenes Tour of Museum.
 Dinner: 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be held under the Drum Point Lighthouse which is on the premises of the Calvert Marine Museum.
 Evening: 7:00 p.m. Behind the Scenes Tour of Calvert Marine Museum with the Director of the museum Doug Alves.

Day 2: Enjoy a day long tour of Northern Lighthouses by boat, including lunch at the locally reknowned Kentmorr Restaurant on Kent Island.
(Tuesday, June 4)

Note: After a full day of seeing lighthouses from the water, sit back and enjoy a talk by Dr. Ralph Eshelman.



   
 Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.
 Morning: 8:00 a.m. board charter boat under Drum Pt. Lighthouse for tour of Cove Point, Thomas Point, and Sandy Point Lighthouses.
 Lunch: Lunch at Kentmorr Restaurant.
 Afternoon: See Bloody Point and Sharps Island Lighthouses, return to museum.
 Dinner: 6:00 p.m. Dinner in CMM Lounge.
 Evening: 7:00 p.m. Lecture of history of Lighthouses bu Dr. Ralph Eshelman.

Day 3: Van tour of other Southern Maryland lighthouses: Point Lookout and Piney Point lighthouses.
(Wednesday, June 5)

Note: Tucked between lighthouses is lunch at the unforgettable Courtney's family restaurant - a true local eatery.



   
 Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.
 Morning: 10:00a.m. depart Holiday Inn by van for a tour of Piney Point Lighthouse
 Lunch: Noon lunch at a local family seafood restuarant, Courtney's Restaurant.
 Afternoon: 2:00 p.m. Tour of Point Lookout Lighthouse. 3:00 p.m. Depart for Holiday Inn.
 Evening: Free Evening to expore beautiful Solomons Island. Dinner on your own. Select from a wide array of local eateries and fine dining restaurants. Walk along the boardwalk and see the Patuxent River sunset.

Day 4: Tour by boat of lighthouses in the southern Chesapeake Bay. Lunch on historic Smith Island.
(Thursday, June 6)

Note: This action-packed day ends under the Drum Point Lighthouse with local fare and local musicians.

 Morning: 8:00 a.m. board charter boat at the museum for tour of Point No Point, Point Lookout, and Smith Point Lighthouses
 Lunch: 12 noon Lunch at Bayside Inn on Smith Island
 Afternoon: Visit Bayside History Museum. 2:00 p.m. depart Smith Island for Solomon's Lump and Hooper Island Lighthouses
 Dinner: 6:00 p.m. dinner under the lighthouse.
 Evening: 7:00 p.m. Musical entertainment by local musicians.

Day 5: Visit state archaeology lab and enjoy a picnic overlooking the Patuxent River. Sunset wine and cheese cruise.

Note: Another exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to see the archaeological evidence of Maryland's past.



   
 Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast at the Holiday Inn.
 Morning: Travel by van to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum for a behind-the-scenes tour of the state archaeology lab.
 Lunch: Picnic lunch at JPPM overlooking the Patuxent River.
 Afternoon: Visit JPPM Visitor Center and exhibits. At 3:00 return to the Holiday Inn. Free afternoon.
 Dinner: Cookout under the Drum Point Lighthouse. Special lesson on how to pick blue crabs.
 Evening: Sunset cruise on the Wm. B. Tennison.

Day 6: Program closing with a special catered breakfast by a local chef from Lotus Kitchen.
