In the forests of the Catskill Mountains, form bonds among mind, body and spirit in an expert-led immersion in meditation, yoga, massage and healthy living. Discover the world of meditation and learn methods for heightening your awareness and self-knowledge. Gain flexibility, strength and balance of both mind and body through the practice of yoga. Enjoy a personal, professional massage while exploring techniques to relieve pain and reduce anxiety and learn how healthy eating and home exercises enhance both physical and mental health.

The region surrounding Claryville is part of the New York City watershed, and as such, the natural beauty of the area’s forests and waterways is preserved in order to maintain the purity of the water that eventually reaches more than half of the state’s population.

  Description: Located in the pristine forests at the base of Slide Mountain, the Frost Valley YMCA features nearly 7,000 acres of meadows, ponds, cascading waterfalls, and world-renowned trout streams, creating an idyllic background. East Valley Ranch at Frost Valley is a lovely renovated home situated in a beautiful field just a few feet from the East Branch of the Neversink River. The deck, right off the dining room, looks directly over the Neversink River.

  Facility amenities: East Valley Ranch offers a warm country inn atmosphere in a peaceful and secluded valley. This renovated turn-of-the-century estate features small active programs, tastefully furnished, comfortable rooms with private baths, and outstanding wellness cuisine. Marked hiking trails stretching throughout the Catskill Forest Preserve depart just a few feet from the front door of the house.

Take the complimentary shuttle from the airport to the Shortline Bus Station. Take a bus to Monticello Bus Station, then follow the 'From Bus Terminal' directions. Driving Directions
  From Albany and Points North Keeping track of mileage will be very helpful! From NY Thruway Exit 19 (Kingston), go 30 miles West on Route 28. Look for signs on left side of road marked "Big Indian" Turn left onto County Road 47 and go 21 miles (note: at 14 miles you will pass through Frost Valley and pass by the Frost Valley YMCA) to County Road 19 in Claryville. Turn left and follow County Road 19 for seven miles (past the "Dead End" sign). Turn right at the Straus Center sign and follow the driveway.
  From Binghamton and Points West Take Route 17 East to Exit 100 (Liberty). Make a right at end of ramp, go through town on Rt. 52. Turn right on to Rt. 55 East. Follow directions from Liberty.
  From Connecticut and Points East Take 1-84 West to Route 17 (Middletown, NY). Go West on Route 17 to Exit 10OA (Liberty). At the end of the exit ramp turn right onto Route 55 East. Follow directions from Liberty.
  From Liberty, NY Take Route 55 East 10 miles to Curry. Look for sign on the right side of the road marked "Claryville." Turn left onto County Road 19 and go 4 miles toward Claryville. See white Church on right. Do NOT turn left at the Frost Valley sign!!! Continue straight ahead on County Road 19 (which is called Denning Road in Claryville) through Claryville for 7+ miles. Drive past the "Dead End" signs. The Straus Center driveway will be on your right. Turn right at the Straus Center sign and follow the driveway all the way around keeping left.
  From New Jersey and Points South From the New York Thruway Exit 16 (Harriman) go 55 miles West on Route 17 to Exit 100A (Liberty). Note that exit 100A will be AFTER exit 100. At the end of the exit ramp turn right onto Route 55 East. Follow directions from Liberty.
Elevation Note: Facility is at 2000 feet.

Equipment Requirements: You may bring any yoga equipment you have. If you do not have a mat, one will be provided.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check-in/Orientation
(Sunday, April 14)
   
 Afternoon: Check in begins at 4:00 PM in the dining room.
 Dinner: Conclude the day's travel with warm welcome to East Valley Ranch and a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.
 Evening: Introductions and an orientation to the East Valley Ranch and Road Scholar program in our cozy and comfortable living room.

Day 2: Healthy Lifestyles Discussion
(Monday, April 15)
   
 Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in the East Valley Ranch dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.
 Morning: We will begin our week of reconnecting with our minds and bodies through a meditation session to get us focused on the day. After we are ready for the day we will have our morning yoga session. The morning session will focus on refreshing the basics in yoga provided by our yoga instructor.
 Lunch: Lunch will consist of healthy wellness cuisine prepared to replenish your active and creative body's needs. Common lunch items may include eggplant parmesan, pasta options, chicken cutlets, and vegetarian selections. Homemade soups, complete salad bar and light deserts are provided daily.
 Afternoon: Our first full afternoon together will first be spent talking with our massage instructor whom will go through the basics of pressure points and therapeutic massages. This session will be followed by our later afternoon yoga session.
 Dinner: After a session of yoga, dinner will be ready. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.
 Evening: We will visit a local artist and learn more about their craft.

Day 3:
(Tuesday, April 16)
   
 Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in the East Valley Ranch dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.
 Morning: Today we will take a hike around the East Valley Ranch trails, admiring the beautiful spring landscape. This will also be a time for guests to schedule their massage.
 Lunch: Lunch at East Valley Ranch. Lunch will consist of healthy wellness cuisine prepared to replenish your active and creative body's needs. Common lunch items may include eggplant parmesan, pasta options, chicken cutlets, and vegetarian selections. Homemade soups, complete salad bar and light deserts are provided daily.
 Afternoon: Our day will be continued with meditation classes.
 Dinner: After a session of yoga, dinner will be ready. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.
 Evening: This evening we will have a presentation of the history of the area from a staff member.

Day 4:
(Wednesday, April 17)
   
 Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in Straus Center dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.
 Morning: We will travel to main camp and hike around Lake Cole to experience the views. The hike will pause to admire High Falls before returning to our starting point.
 Lunch: Lunch at main camp. Before leaving East Valley Ranch we will create our own lunches from a selection of meats, cheeses and other healthy choices. Upon arrival at main camp we will also have access to soup, tea, coffee and fruit juices.
 Afternoon: We will tour Julius Forstmann's Summer home. Forstmann, who founded Forstmann woollens, was a character of the Catskills and his house reflects this.
 Dinner: After a session of yoga, dinner will be ready. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.
 Evening: Tonight we will be joined by one of our fabulous volunteers for songs and poetry.

Day 5:
(Thursday, April 18)
   
 Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.
 Morning: Our final full day will be spent focusing on healthy living a refreshing hike on property. This will also be a time when guests can sign up for massages.
 Lunch: Lunch will consist of healthy wellness cuisine prepared to replenish your active and creative body's needs. Common lunch items may include eggplant parmesan, pasta options, chicken cutlets, and vegetarian selections. Homemade soups, complete salad bar and light deserts are provided daily.
 Afternoon: The day will continue with optional massages if you are signed up. During this time will also be a class on facials that can be made from ingredients found around the home kitchen.
 Dinner: Conclude the day's travel with warm welcome to East Valley Ranch and a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.
 Evening: We will have a special slide show presentation and socializing time this evening.

Day 6:
(Friday, April 19)
   
 Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in the dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.
 Morning: We will have a yoga session before breakfast, followed by a meditation session after breakfast as well as an overview of pressure points and massage. There will also be some free time built in to explore around East Valley Ranch one last time.
 Lunch: We will have lunch at East Valley Ranch together around noon. Guests will be provided with a diverse variety of food selections to assemble their own picnic lunch, as we provide complete travelling flexiblity. Sandwich items may include deli meats, tuna, chicken salad and a choice of assorted cheeses. Fresh breads, fruits, granola and cookies are also provided. Lunch will be followed by "goodbyes" and check-out for departure by 2PM.
