Since the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum’s opened in 1991, so much more has been uncovered about President Reagan’s life and works utilizing research and the President’s handwritten diaries. As a result, the Library embarked on a year long renovation project that was completed in February 2011, in time for Reagan’s 100th birthday. The interactive exhibits and never-before-seen artifacts will deliver a more in-depth retelling of the Reagan-era history.

Perched on a mountaintop with sweeping views of mountains, valleys and the Pacific Ocean, this 100-acre site offers memorable experiences for people of all ages. Visitors will be given the opportunity to role-play as they step into a WHO radio booth and read the ticker tape a young Ronald Reagan once read, to raise their hand and take the oath of office on inauguration day, and to deliver some of President Reagan’s famous speeches as they stand behind a presidential podium. The property was sold to the Young America's Foundation, a conservative group which preserves it today as what it calls "a living monument to Reagan's ideas, values, and lasting accomplishments." Although the ranch is closed to the public, Young America's Foundation offers students and supporters the opportunity to visit the property Reagan called "heaven."

The Reagan Diaries

Author: Edited by Douglas Brinkley

Description:

An American Life: The Autobiography

Author: Ronald Reagan

Description: Ronald Reagan's autobiography is a work of major historical importance. Here, in his own words, is the story of his life—public and private—told in a book both frank and compellingly readable. From modest beginnings as the son of a shoe salesman in Tampico, Illinois, Ronald Reagan achieved first a distinguished career in Hollywood and then, as governor of California and as president of the most powerful nation in the world, a career of public service unique in our history. Told with uncompromising candor, modesty, and wit, he gives us the details of the great themes and dramatic crises of his eight years in office, from Lebanon to Grenada, from the struggle to achieve arms control to tax reform, from Iran-Contra to the visits abroad that did so much to reestablish the United States in the eyes of the world as a friendly and peaceful power.

When Character Was King

Author: Peggy Noonan

Description: From the bestselling author of "What I Saw at the Revolution" comes an elegiac tribute to one of America's most beloved leaders. From the beginning of his Presidency, Reagan enjoyed the American people's affection. What was the wellspring of his greatness? Peggy Noonan, bestselling author of the classic Reagan-era memoir "What I Saw at the Revolution", former speechwriter, and now a columnist and contributing editor for The Wall Street Journal, argues that the secret of Reagan's success was no secret at all. It was his character, courage, kindness, persistence, honesty, and almost heroic patience in the face of setbacks that were the most important elements of his success. Noonan, renowned for her special insight into Ronald Reagan's history and personality, brings her own reflections to Reagan to bear in When Character Was King and discloses never-before-told stories from the former president's family, friends, and White House colleagues to reveal the true nature of a man even his opponents now view as a maker of big history.
