Become a better player and elevate your enjoyment of the game — both in golf and bridge! On the historic golf haven of Jekyll Island, learn from top teaching pros and play on Georgia’s largest public golf resort. Learn to fine-tune your grip, proper alignment, improve your short game and more. After a day on the course, pull up to the bridge table and sharpen your skills in the most challenging aspects of the game.




Highlights

• On three afternoons, play 18 of Jekyll Island’s 63 holes of golf.
• Improve existing bridge skills and learn brand-new ones in nightly clinics and play while being supervised by your coach.
• On a free afternoon, explore Georgia’s Golden Isles any way you like, be it on renowned St. Simon’s Island, in neighboring Brunswick or along Jekyll Island’s 25 miles of bike paths.

This program date stays at a comfortable, centrally located hotel and is for ADVANCING level players to upgrade your games by adding conventions and logic to your partnership understanding. Familiarity with open bids and responses, overcalls and advances, take-out double, forcing bids, leads and signals required. Set hands and trial duplicate sessions daily.

Jekyll Island

One of Georgia’s southernmost barrier islands, Jekyll Island has a storied past. At the turn of the century, it hosted an exclusive club that attracted the likes of the Astors, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. Much of that world is preserved in a historic district near the riverfront. Today, the island is popular for golfing, fishing and kayaking.

Rob Ellis

Robert Ellis is a PGA Professional in Jekyll Island, Ga. He is the director of golf for Jekyll Island's four courses: Pine Lakes, Indian Mound, Oleander and Great Dunes. Rob has completed the Professional Golfers' Association of America training program. The PGA of America comprises 27,000 men and women professionals with one singular goal in mind — to make the game of golf more enjoyable for you.
 
Spencer Brookman

Spencer Brookman went to James Madison University, where he played on the club golf team. He nterned at Jekyll Island Golf Club during his senior year of college, and graduated with a degree in sports and recreation management. After graduation, he worked at Fredericksburg Country Club before returning to Jekyll Island in the spring of 2011. He is currently a level 1 apprentice with the PGA, working towards earning his Class A membership.
 
Alex Brough

Alex Brough retired from a 30-year career selling insurance to take up bridge full time after a move from Massachusetts to Georgia. A certified American Contract Bridge League director and co-founder of two duplicate bridge clubs, he enjoys the flair of tournament play and is a Bronze Life Master. As a passionate teacher, he has logged 300 days teaching bridge on cruise ships worldwide. Alex is an active golfer, bicyclist and tennis player.

Driving Directions
  From Exit 29 on I-95 To reach the Hampton Inn & Suites Jekyll Island, when traveling on I-95, take Exit 29 onto Highway 17/82 North for 6 miles to the Jekyll Island Causeway (State Road 520). Proceed on the Causeway East 6 miles to the Jekyll Island collection station ($6 park entry fee). Continue on the Causeway to the Loop. Take the first right on to Beachview Drive. Go down Beachview Drive and travel approximately 1 mile to hotel on left.
Elevation Note: Elevation is just above sea level.

Day 1: Golf and Bridge Orientation
(Sunday, October 6)
   
 Afternoon: Arrive at hotel for registration, room assignment, dinner and program orientation.
 Dinner: Dinner at 6:00 PM.
 Evening: Orientation golf and bridge.

Day 2: Golf Instruction/18 holes of golf/Advanced Bridge
(Monday, October 7)
   
 Breakfast: Hot breakfast bar.
 Morning: Depart for Jekyll Island Golf facility instruction begins around 9:00 a.m. Short game will be the emphasis of the clinic. Group instruction includes putting, chipping and full swing, etc.
 Lunch: Lunch at the golf course grill.
 Afternoon: Jekyll Island has been a golf destination since 1898, when Jekyll Island Club members added the first course on the island. Today, Jekyll Island boasts 63 holes of golf on three 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. The 18 hole courses are Pine Lakes (renovated in 2002), Indian Mound (named after the oyster shell middens left by native peoples), or the popular Oleander (on the grounds of the 34th oldest course in the US. The group will play 18 holes of golf.
 Dinner: Dinner
 Evening: Review Staymen & Transfers, week two bids and responses.

Day 3: Golf instruction/18 Holes of Golf/Advanced Bridge
(Tuesday, October 8)
   
 Breakfast: Hot breakfast bar.
 Morning: Depart for Jekyll Island Golf facility instruction begins around 9:00 a.m. About a 10 minute drive. Short game will be the emphasis of the clinic. Participants will work on putting, chipping and full swing, etc.
 Lunch: Lunch at the golf course grill.
 Afternoon: The group will play 18 holes of golf.
 Dinner: Dinner
 Evening: Two suited hands and reverses.
   
Accommodations: Hampton Inn and Suites
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Advanced Bridge - Free afternoon
(Wednesday, October 9)
   
 Breakfast: Hot breakfast bar.
 Morning: Lecture to include Drury, negative doubles and preemptive bidding. Supervised play.
 Lunch: Lunch.
 Afternoon: Free Afternoon suggestions - This will give you the opportunity to visit neighboring places such as Brunswick, Darien, or St. Simon's Island to see other areas of Georgia's Golden Isles. Bicyclists will also enjoy the 25 miles of bike paths Jekyll offers.
 Dinner: Dinner on your own.

Day 5: Golf instruction/18 Holes of Golf/Advanced Bridge
(Thursday, October 10)
   
 Breakfast: Hot Breakfast bar.
 Morning: Depart for Jekyll Island Golf facility instruction begins around 9:00 a.m. About a 10 minute drive. Short game will be the emphasis of the clinic. Group instruction icludes putting, chipping and full swing, etc.
 Lunch: Lunch at the golf course grill.
 Afternoon: The group will play 18 holes of golf.
 Dinner: Dinner
 Evening: Strong major raises - Jacoby 2NT & responses.
   
Accommodations: Hampton Inn and Suites
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Breakfast/Advanced Bridge
(Friday, October 11)
   
 Breakfast: Hot breakfast bar.
 Morning: Advanced Bridge Splinter bids, Grand Slam Force, review and wrap up.

  Jekyll Island, GA General Overview
Jekyll Island's Historic District has several speciality shops as well as the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, once the clubhouse for many of America's elite business men. Other areas of interest located near Jekyll Island are St. Simons Island, home to several historic places including Fort Frederica, Bloody Marsh Battle site, etc. There are also other interesting islands located near Jekyll Island including Sapelo Island where you will find a plantation once owned by R. J. Reynolds and Cumberland Island home to many wild horses. Other areas of interest near Jekyll Island include Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation, an old rice plantation and Brunswick Georgia which has many historic buildings and landmarks as well as several antique shops. Jekyll Island is located approximately one hour south of Historic Savannah Georgia.
