Beethoven stands as the most revolutionary composer in music. Trace the development of the master’s musical style from its roots in the Viennese Classical tradition through his monumental late works. Examine the compositions of Johannes Brahms, pieces considered overly academic by many of his contemporaries and revered today as pinnacles of the Romantic tradition. Finally, explore the hauntingly beautiful works of Franz Schubert, the first great melodist of the 19th century.

  Description: The Peabody Inn, in Baltimore's historic Mt. Vernon area, provides comfortable accommodations to participants in the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University's Road Scholar program. The Inn, located in four townhouses on the Peabody Institute campus, was renovated for the Road Scholar program and provides rooms that are unique in their configuration. See details below.

  Facility amenities: The Inn is actually upgraded dorm space, with 2 twin beds in each room, wall-to-wall carpeting, matching bedspreads and drapes, telephone, radio alarm clock, dresser, desk and chair, private bathroom, and AC or heat in each room, depending on the season. A locked safe is available in each room. Bed linens, blankets and pillows are provided. Rooms are freshened and beds are made daily. Fresh towels are replaced on Mondays and Wednesdays. TVs are not provided in the rooms; however, a TV is located in Classroom B and available for viewing when class is not in session. Coffee makers, hair dryers, shower caps, etc. are not provided in the room. There are grab bars in all bathrooms at Peabody Inn. We are committed to making Road Scholar programs accessible to everyone, but please call us in advance so we can plan to accommodate your needs. We have wheel chairs, portable raised toilet seats, and shower chairs available; simply call ahead to reserve them. Classrooms are located in the Peabody Inn and you will be required to walk about ½ block to the cafeteria in the next building, and the equivalent of 1½ blocks to the evening recitals. Most of the walking is inside buildings on flat surfaces and elevators are available to move you to different levels. All routes are wheel chair accessible.

The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. Please note that program staff are unable to provide nursing or personal care. We may, at our option, require certification from a medical professional indicating participants are able to provide their own basic care.

Parking in the Peabody Garage for the week (Sunday- Friday) is $50.00. Visa, Mastercard, or check accepted. Unlimited in and out privileges. Garage clearance 7 feet; cannot accommodate RVs or vans with items on a roof rack. Located on St. Paul St.

  From the North (I-83) Driving on I 83 from Pennsylvania: If you are driving south on 83 from Pennsylvania, follow signs to the 695 Beltway WEST, and travel west on 695 a short distance before getting back onto 83 South at Beltway Exit 23A. Travel on 83 south approximately 7 1/2 miles to Exit 4--St. Paul Street. Travel south on St. Paul Street through 9 traffic lights. Then, you will see a small park on your right, which is Mt. Vernon Place. Cross Centre Street and stay in the right fork as St. Paul Street splits. Turn right onto Franklin Street, go one block to Charles Street and turn right. Stay in the right hand lane. After you cross Centre Street, the Peabody Inn is immediately north of Centre Street at the second doorway on the right, #605; next to the large flower planter. The Walters Art Museum is on your left and the Washington Monument is in front of you. Peabody Inn entrance is at 605 North Charles Street (NOTE: the street sign refers to this block as Washington Place). Pull into the10-minute parking area in front of the building to unload your luggage before going to the garage. Between the hours of 1:00 and 3:30 PM on Sundays students will be on hand to help you with your luggage. Continue on the Beltway to Exit 23A (I 83 South). Continue on 83 for approximately 7½ miles to Exit 4--St. Paul St. Travel south on St. Paul Street through 9 traffic lights. Travel south on 695 until you get to 95 North to Baltimore (here again there are two ramps - this time you will take the one which bears left toward Baltimore). Take 95 North to 395 North to Downtown (Exit 53). Continue on 395 North to Pratt St. Turn right on Pratt St. and continue several blocks to Charles St. Turn left on Charles St. and continue approximately one mile (you will drive north toward Baltimore's Washington Monument).
