There is no better place to study this Trappist monk than Bellarmine University, the official repository for Merton's manuscripts, poems, letters, journals, tapes, drawings, photography and memorabilia. Immerse yourself in Merton’s life through a multimedia survey of his published and unpublished works, critical studies and personal reflections, all emphasizing the unique place that Merton holds in the 21st century.

Day 1: Arrival and Check In/Welcome and Orientation

 Dinner: Dinner at hotel.
 Evening: Welcome, orientation and program overview. Get to know your fellow participants and program staff.

Day 2: Visit Merton Center/2 Presentations on Merton by Director of Center/Visit Cathedral & Merton Square in Downtown Louisville/Presentation on Meditation in evening
(Monday, March 18)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast at hotel.
 Morning: Visit Our Lady of the Woods Chapel on Bellarmine campus. Presentation on Thomas Merton by Director of Merton Center in the Center. View Merton Square and Marker in downtown Louisville. Attend Noon Mass at Cathedral (optional).
 Lunch: Lunch at downtown restaurant
 Afternoon: Presentation on Thomas Merton by Director of Center. Explore the Center.
 Dinner: Dinner at hotel.
 Evening: Presentation on "Meditation."

Day 3: 3 Presentations: Merton the Artist, Merton Writer and Poet, and Merton's Cold War Letters/Explore the Merton Center/Presentation on Appalachian Dulcimer in evening

 Morning: Presentation on "Merton the Artist" at Bellarmine Merton Center,
 Lunch: Lunch at University Dining Hall
 Afternoon: Presentations on: "Merton: Writer & Poet" and "Merton's Cold War Letters" at Bellarmine Merton Center. Explore the Merton Center.
 Dinner: Dinner at hotel.
 Evening: Presentation on the Appalachian Dulcimer by Maureen Sellers, nationally-known Dulcimer performer.

 Lunch: Lunch at hotel.
 Afternoon: Suggestions for free afternoon: sightseeing, a visit on your own to the Merton Center, reading, relaxation.
 Dinner: Dinner at hotel
 Evening: View Video: "Taste of Gethsemani: Monks who Knew Merton", followed by discussion time (optional)

Day 5: Visit to Cathedral and Merton Bookstore in Bardstown, KY/Visit Abbey of Gethsemani/Discuss Merton Essay in evening (optional)

 Morning: Travel to Bardstown, KY, to visit St. Joseph's Proto-Cathedral and a bookstore that sells Merton books.
 Lunch: Lunch at restaurant in Bardstown, KY.
 Afternoon: Visit the Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, KY. While there, attend the Office of Nones, listen to presentation by a monk who knew Merton (if available), visit Merton gravesite.
 Dinner: Dinner at hotel.
 Evening: Discuss Merton essay "Day of a Stranger"

Day 6: Two Presentations on Thomas Merton/Program Wrap Up/Departure
(Friday, March 22)

 Morning: 2 Presentations: "A Walk in the Woods with Thomas Merton" and "Thomas Merton's Geography of Place," followed by closing activities.
 Lunch: Lunch at 11:30 AM. Program ends after lunch.
 Afternoon: Independent departures after lunch.
