Driving Directions
  Portland OR From Interstate 5 South: Follow I-5 South to Albany, Oregon. Past Albany, take Exit 228 (Corvallis/Highway 34) and follow Highway 34 west to Corvallis. In Corvallis, follow signs to Highway 20 west (Newport). Follow Highway 20 west to Newport. Once in Newport, turn left (south) onto Highway 101. Watch for SW Fall Street and turn left onto it. If you reach the bridge you have gone too far. Follow SW Fall street to the hotel on Elizabeth Street.

Day 1: Welcome! Orientation and Dinner
(Sunday, November 17)
   
 Arrive To: Check in at hotel front desk.
 Afternoon: Welcome orientation will take place in the hotel meeting room at 5 pm.
 Dinner: Dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Day 2: Oregon Coast Natural History, Beach Walk, Coastal Rainforest Walk, Evening Lecture
(Monday, November 18)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant.
 Morning: Learn about the fundamental geology of the Oregon Coast in an engaging presentation followed by a guided beach walk. Your naturalist guide will help you identify what you find in the sand.
 Lunch: Lunch at the hotel restaurant.
 Afternoon: Venture deep into the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide and learn about the prolific life before you. From Salmon to mushrooms, you will meet the coast's native creatures. Later, explore the area in a lively driving tour.
 Dinner: Dine in a local restaurant.
 Evening: Lecture TBD

Day 3: Glass Blowing, Whale Watching and Oregon's Marine Habitat
(Tuesday, November 19)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant.
 Morning: Meet a local glass artist who will introduce you to the art and craft of blowing glass. Learn about the famous glass floats of the Oregon Coast and blow one yourself.
 Lunch: Lunch at a local restaurant.
 Afternoon: Travel to lovely Depoe Bay and visit the state's only dedicated whale watching station. Scan the waters for the spouts of migrating Gray Whales. Walk the waterfront of Depoe Bay and explore the world's smallest harbor entrance where fishing boats squeeze between rocks to enter the picturesque harbor.
 Dinner: Dine in a local restaurant.
 Evening: Learn how commercial fisherman, whales, and other marine creatures coexist in the busy waters of the Oregon Coast.

Day 4: Salmon Cooking Demonstration, Free Afternoon & Evening
(Wednesday, November 20)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant.
 Morning: The Oregon Coast Aquarium is one of the finest aquariums in the nation. Explore the engaging exhibits and meet the facility's amazing residents.
 Lunch: Anyone can eat salmon, but can you cook it? At Lincoln City's culinary center, we'll learn from Chef Sharon Weist how to prepare a seafood feast using fresh salmon. When the work is done, enjoy the results with some Oregon wine.
 Afternoon: Enjoy a free afternoon to explore or relax.
 Dinner: Dinner is on your own. Try out one of Newport's wonderful restaurants.

Day 5: Cape Perpetua, Devil's Churn, Yachats and Waldport.
(Thursday, November 21)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant.
 Morning: South of Newport, the Oregon Coast turns wild with dramatic headlands, tidepools and spouting horns.
 Lunch: Enjoy lunch in Yachats, one of the prettiest towns on the west coast.
 Afternoon: Cape Perpetua towers above the surf south of Yachats. We'll go to the top of the cape and visit a Civilian Conservation Corps observation shelter 800 feet above the waves. Later, we'll visit the Devil's Churn and see winter waves explode in the deep fissure of rock.
 Dinner: Celebrate the last night of the program with a dinner at a local restaurant.
 Evening: Wrap up your week with a celebration.
