Lampworking, also called flameworking, requires a very hot butane table-mounted torch. Wearing protective glasses, you heat Pyrex rods in the flame and manipulate the softened glass with tools to form beads and other small shapes. The class will divide into two smaller groups so everyone will have individual attention.
Lunch:
Catered lunch at Pratt.
Afternoon:
After lunch, return to the warm shop for fusing and lampworking. Switch to the other class this afternoon from this morning and begin learning a new skill. It's useful to spend half a day in each area so that pieces completed in the morning can be fired in the kiln in the afternoon and cool overnight in preparation for additional work the following day. Limited space in the kilns allows for successive firings.
