Be part of the resurgence of baseball in Oakland and Denver as these two young teams prepare for their 2015 season in the intimate and casual atmosphere of Arizona’s Cactus League. Enjoy at least two games with your team as we immerse ourselves in the history of the game and enjoy discussions with former players, coaches and other baseball “lifers.”

• Enjoy a sing along with the organist for the Arizona Diamondbacks and discuss the current state of the game with a former baseball executive.
• Delight in a talk from a former player/baseball historian and hear from a sportswriter on how he conveys the beat of the game.
• Go behind the scenes of one of major league baseball’s most innovative ballparks, Chase Field, regular-season home of the Arizona Diamondbacks

Walking up to a ˝ mile; stairs at ballparks. Games attended are dependent on Cactus League schedule, which is finalized in January.



Lunch on your own at the ball parks. Schedule permitting enjoy at least 2 games with your team, 4 total. For best seating, register by Dec. 1, 2014.

Richard Stephens

Rich has been director of Northern Arizona University’s highly popular Road Scholar programs since 2001. He previously spent many years in the field as a program coordinator and group leader, where he honed his skills and learned the importance of detailed, pre-trip planning. Before making his home in Arizona’s spectacular red-rock country, Rich spent 10 years in Yosemite National Park and the Santa Cruz mountains as an environmental educator.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check-In and Program Registration/Orientation
(Sunday, March 10)
   
 Afternoon: Please arrive at the hotel to register at 4:30pm. Check into your room at the front desk and then register with Road Scholar staff in the Main lobby. You will then have until 6:00 PM to settle into your room. Please note, this itinerary is TENTATIVE and instructors, classes, games, and schedules are subject to change. If a game is rained out, there is no refund.
 Dinner: Meals unless otherwise indicated. They may be at the hotel or out at a local restaurant. Please arrive at the time indicated on your itinerary.
 Evening: After dinner we will have Orientation. This will provide you with information about the hotel, program itinerary, instructors, venues and on site staff. This is also a good opportunity to ask questions!

Day 2: Baseball Stories/Ballgame 1/Baseball in Movies/Sportswriter
(Monday, March 11)
   
 Breakfast: All breakfasts are deluxe continental with a different options daily. Come down by the time indicated on the intinerary, just be sure to allow enough time to arrive promptly for the morning activity!
 Morning: Hear from a sportswriter on how he "reads and writes" the game.
 Morning: Uncover the history of the Cactus League and how it now hosts 15 of the 30 major league teams!
 Lunch: Lunch on your own at the stadium.
 Afternoon: Game 1 - To be announced in mid January. Games are dependent upon the 2013 Cactus League schedule.
 Dinner: After the game, enjoy a delicious dinner at a favorite local restaurant.
 Evening: Conduct baseball movie reviews, watch film clips, and engage in discussion with a movie scholar.

Day 3: Executives in Baseball/Ballgame 2/Official Scoring/Batting Practice
(Tuesday, March 12)
   
 Breakfast: All breakfasts are deluxe continental with a different options daily. Come down by the time indicated on the intinerary, just be sure to allow enough time to arrive promptly for the morning activity!
 Morning: Enjoy intimate ballparks and "the old ball game" during four spring training games and a batting practice session.
 Morning: Take a look at the game from a new perspective - discuss the business of baseball with business executives.
 Lunch: Lunch on your own at the stadium.
 Afternoon: Get hands-on experience with scoring as you develop your skills. A completed scorecard will allow you to recall every single play in the game, as though you were listening to the game on the radio!
 Dinner: Dinner at the game.
 Evening: Game 2 - To be announced in mid January. Games are dependent upon the 2013 Cactus League schedule.

Day 4: Chase Stadium/Ballgame 3/Major League Umpire AZ Diamondback's Organist - Performance
(Wednesday, March 13)
   
 Breakfast: All breakfasts are deluxe continental with a different options daily. Come down by the time indicated on the intinerary, just be sure to allow enough time to arrive promptly for the morning activity!
 Morning: A special tour of the state-of-the art Arizona Diamondbacks Chase Stadium offers an opportunity to explore the dugout, locker room and museum at the ball field.
 Morning: View the game from an umpire stance with Major League Baseball Umpire.
 Lunch: Lunch on your own at the stadium.
 Afternoon: Game 3 - To be announced in mid January. Games are dependent upon the 2013 Cactus League schedule.
 Dinner: After the game, enjoy a delicious dinner at a favorite local restaurant.
 Evening: Enjoy baseball music with the Arizona Diamondbacks' organist. Get in the rhythm of the game with baseball tunes!

Day 5: History of Baseball/Ballgame 4 Retired MLB Player alumni
(Thursday, March 14)

 Morning: Learn all about the history of baseball from a former major league player.
 Lunch: Lunch on your own at the stadium.
 Afternoon: Reminisce about the "good old days" with retired players.
 Dinner: Dinner is at the game, on the Party Deck.
 Evening: Game 4 - To be announced in mid January. Games are dependent upon the 2013 Cactus League schedule.

Day 6: Baseball Media and Wrap Up
(Friday, March 15)
   
 Breakfast: All breakfasts are deluxe continental with a different options daily. Come down by the time indicated on the intinerary, just be sure to allow enough time to arrive promptly for the morning activity!
 Morning: Engage in discussion with a noted baseball writer and journalist. Wrap up and goodbyes. ***Please note this schedule is tentative and dependent upon the Cactus League Spring Training schedule. To obtain the better stadium seats, we need to purchase the tickets by January 1st. We cannot guarantee group seating assignments after this date. If a game is rained out, there is no refund issued.***
