In the 19th century, the Impressionist Movement took the world by storm, and continues to mesmerize art lovers. On a voyage that leads from the gardens of Monet’s Giverny to the collections of the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia, immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Impressionism.

Day 1: Overnight flight from the U.S.A.


Days 2-5: Arrival Paris (France)

Delve into Impressionism at the Musée d’Orsay, followed by a field trip to admire the collections of the Musée Rodin. Attend a musical performance at the Sainte Chapelle. View the works of Claude Monet at the Orangerie, and spend an afternoon in Montmartre. Journey to Auvers-sur-Oise and Pontoise, towns that were home to artists including Van Gogh, Pisarro, Gauguin and Cezanne. Spend a morning walking along Monet’s gardens at Giverny. Lodging: Comfortable hotel.



Days 6-13: Train to London (England) / Transfer to Southampton / Embark Queen Mary 2

Journey by train to London and take in the masterpieces at the Courtauld Gallery. Embark the Queen Mary 2, and better your knowledge of the Impressionists with lectures on artists from Cezanne to Renoir during your voyage.



Days 14-17: New York City / Disembark / coach to Philadelphia / Departure

Spend an afternoon in New York City and explore the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In Philadelphia, take in the impressive holdings of the Barnes Foundation. Learn about American Impressionism at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and delight in an evening concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Join experts for explorations of the Rodin Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art. Lodging: Comfortable hotel.

Elizabeth Anderson
Elizabeth Anderson, former curator of education at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, earned a master’s in the history of art at the University of Pennsylvania. She was associated with the Philadelphia Museum of Art for 40 years until retiring in 2005. Among her many responsibilities, Elizabeth supervised programs for the museum’s special exhibitions — among them “The Annenberg Collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Art,” “Picasso’s Still-Lifes,” “Leonardo da Vinci: Anatomical Drawings,” French Paintings from the Barnes Foundation, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Salvador Dali.

  Start of Program:
The program begins with orientation at the program hotel in Paris at 5:30 pm. You will be staying at Villa Pantheon that night.
  End of Program:
The program ends after lunch in Philadelphia at 1:30 pm. You will be staying at The Doubletree Hotel the night before.
  Required documents:
The Road Scholar Health & Safety Form is required. **PLEASE NOTE: Cunard requires that you register online in order to receive your E-ticket(s) and cruise documents. You should do this when you receive your final program materials about 5 weeks prior to departure, your booking number and cabin assignment will be included with these materials. That will open a new window where you can enter your first and last name and booking reference number to sign in.   Transportation to site: A group arrival transfer is organized for all participants who purchased an air inclusive program and arrive on the group date. Independent travelers can take a taxi from the hotel to the airport or can ask the hotel for assistance in arranging a shuttle transfer. Day 3: Masterpieces of the Orsay and Rodin Museums
(Friday, October 4)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast buffet at the hotel.
 Morning: Your Group Leader will take you to the Musee d'Orsay for an introduction to Impressionism focusing on the art created in Montmartre, Auvers, Giverny, Rouen and Honfleur.
 Lunch: After your visit, have lunch with your group at the Orsay Museum's restaurant.
 Afternoon: This afternoon, explore the Rodin Institute's gardens featuring such famous sculptures as the Thinker, the Gates of Hell and The Burghers of Calais, before an expert-led visit of the Museum's collections.

Day 4: The Orangerie and Artistic Life in Montmartre

 Lunch: Take this opportunity to explore local cuisine with lunch on your own.
 Afternoon: Explore Montmartre, the heart of the Parisian artistic movement, featuring the Sacre Coeur basillica and Place du Tertre.
 Dinner: Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 16: Rodin and the Philadelphia Museum of Art
(Thursday, October 17)

 Morning: Betsy Anderson will lecture on the collections of the Rodin Museum and The Philadelphia Museum of Art, followed by a guided visit of the collections.
 Lunch: Enjoy lunch on your own at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
 Afternoon: After a short introduction, take some time to explore the Philadelphia Museum of Art on your own.
 Dinner: This evening, explore local cuisine with dinner on your own. Your group leader will provide suggestions.
