Learn the secrets of a woman’s well-being, from the neurobiology of joy to the role of foods in influencing our moods. North Bonneville

North Bonneville is a mecca of recreation located between the Columbia River Gorge and Portland, Ore., with opportunities for hunting, fishing and hiking available year-round. The famous Pacific Crest Trail passes through town on its way from Mexico to Canada, and within the city limits is historic Strawberry Island, visited by Lewis and Clark.

Peter Chausse
A Massachusetts native, Peter Chausse is a teacher and passionate local historian in Portland, Ore. Though a position with the U.S. Forest Service originally brought him to the Pacific Northwest, Peter is now an instructor at The Heritage Institute, a branch of Antioch University. He runs his own small walking excursion business in Portland and enjoys leading field trips with Road Scholar, during which he shares his knowledge of local art and natural history.
 
Judy Zehr
Judy Zehr is a licensed therapist and currently serves as the director of Clinical Education for the Institute for Health Solutions. For more than 30 years, she has been helping people strengthen their skills in creating happy, healthy lives. Judy served as the lead behavioral change trainer in Kaiser Permanente's Health Education programs, and has worked in organizations and businesses leading workshops and trainings for decades.
 
Wendy Mitchell
A leader in the health promotion field for more than 30 years, Wendy has a master’s in education and psychology and is a certified professional coach. She brings a wealth of experience from her many years of work at the University of California at Berkeley and her role as director of outreach at Oregon Health and Science University, where she advocated for women of all ages and stages of life to take greater personal ownership of their health and the health of their families.
 
Andrea Crisp
Andrea Crisp is a certified health counselor and a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and Columbia University’s Integrative Nutrition Professional Training Program. In layman’s terms, she is a combined life coach and nutritionist. She is also a certified leader of Hasya, or “Laughter,” Yoga, which combines yogic breathing exercises with our natural ability to laugh, and a certified practitioner of reiki, an alternative form of medicine.

  Facility amenities: The 25-meter indoor lap pool, filled with natural-mineral hot-spring water and two jetted soaking pools, it’s excellent for the skin, can help reduce joint pain, and a lot more. All while you enjoy a nice swim. Our pool, naturally heated at 84 degrees Fahrenheit is for swimming and therapy. The resort has a full service spa with more than 40 spa treatments, including mineral baths, body wraps, massages, and facials, to rejuvenate the body and refresh the mind.

Hotel registration begins at 4:00 PM. Road Scholar registration is from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. The program activities begin with dinner at 6:00 PM. You will be staying at Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa that night.
  End of Program:
Program ends at 10:00 AM after a morning wrap up session. Hotel check out by 12:00 PM. You will be staying at Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa the night before.

Portland International Airport (PDX) is the closest major airport. There are two shuttle companies that provide transportation to the resort. Daily Schedule

Day 1: Registration/Welcome and Introductions
(Monday, November 4)
   
 Arrive To: Road Scholar Registration begins at 4:00 PM in the Resort's Great Room just off of the lobby. Meet your group leader and receive the program materials.
 Dinner: At the resort.
 Evening: Meet the other particpants that will be attending this women's only retreat which will encourage relaxation and offer tools for healthy living. Your group leader will provide an overview of the program.

Day 2: Be Your Best Coach/More Joy, Less Stress/Mindful Eating/Laughter Yoga
(Tuesday, November 5)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a breakfast made special for our group.
 Morning: Begin your first morning with a class on "Your Brain on Happiness," provided by Wendy Mitchell M.A., of Women's Health Coaching and Judy Zehr, M.S.H.R.M, L.P.C., Clinical Director of Institute for Health Solutions. They will discuss as a team and in separate presentations tools to help participants reflect on their own experience and use what they have learned as a source of personal growth. They will introduce several tools and practices to increase your daily dose of Joy. This will follow with a presentation by Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD who will introduce the group to the concept of "mindful eating." She is a registered dietician with extensive experience using a motivational approach to help individuals let go of food/weight obsession to heal relationship with food and reach a natural, healthy weight.
 Lunch: Join our instructors for a "mindful eating" based lunch.
 Afternoon: Dana will continue her lecture on mindful eating and the idea that eating can be guilt free!

After Dana's presentation we will have an hour and a half break allowing time for you to treat yourself to a spa service or to take a walk in the area around the resort.

Following the break, the group will join in a fun filled Laughter Yoga session. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter. The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits. An exercise routine, it is sweeping the world and is a complete wellbeing workout. No special clothing is required, but you may want to bring a pillow from your room!

 Dinner: Dinner at the resort.
 Evening: Enjoy some time to relax and visit with your new found friends or visit the resort's spa. We will pre-schedule your complimentary Mineral Bath and Wrap session during this time or during the following afternoon's free time. Enjoy the fireplace in the Great Room on the first floor which offers a nice spot to curl up with a book. The resort also has a lounge. Don't forget the mineral springs fed pool!

Day 3: Water Aerobics/Multnomah Falls Hike/Free Time/Health Benefits of Wine
(Wednesday, November 6)
   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a breakfast provided by the resort.
 Morning: Attend a water aerobics class before heading out on a visit to the Columbia Gorge's famous landmark, Multnomah Falls. Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. The water drops 620 feet from its origin on Larch Mountain. With a local natural history expert as our guide, we will take a walk to see some of the falls in the area under the gorge's lovely forest canopy.
 Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch.
 Afternoon: Our exploration of the gorge will continue until mid afternoon. The remainder of the afternoon may include your complimentary mineral bath and wrap, if it was not scheduled the prior evening. This is a good time to schedule any spa treatments that you would like to provide for yourself. If you would like to take a walk or find time to sit and relax, this time is for you.
 Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the resort and remember to eat mindfully!
 Evening: A local wine expert will be our guide as she discusses Pacific NW wine varietals and the differences among wines. She will discuss the benefits of wine and show you how to taste like a pro!

Day 4: Farewell!

 Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at the resort.

How often do you have the chance to see an active volcano? Mt. St. Helen's National Volcanic Monument is just a 90-minute drive from Stevenson, Washington and well worth the time. For a unique route, follow Highway 14 east from Stevenson about three miles to the Carson Junction. Turn north on Wind River Highway (State Route 30) and follow the signs north to the Mt. St. Helen's National Volcanic Monument.
  Multnomah Falls
Plummeting 620 feet from its origins on Larch Mountain, Multnomah Falls is the second highest year-round waterfall in the nation. At the base of the falls is the Historic Multnomah Falls Lodge which offers a Forest Service Visitors Center and dinning options.
