Dakota Conflict, Coteau Country And Peace Pipes

Hear authentic stories of Buffalo Ridge (Coteau) and this beautiful prairie/lake country. Enjoy field trips to the sacred red quarries at Pipestone National Monument, the End-O-Line Railroad Park and other areas involved in the Dakota Conflict.



Nature's Notebook

Investigate the Buffalo Ridge wind generators, the sacred Dakota pipe, local agriculture in the 21st century, regional entomology and birds of southwest Minnesota. Prairie restoration is discussed during the field trip to Dakota Conflict sites.



Comparative Religion: Christianity, Islam, Judaism

Explore the history of these major religions from their inception to their place in societies and cultures today. These three faiths have much to say about contemporary cultural struggles. Partake in lively discussions.




Slayton

Settled in southwest Minnesota, Slayton was one of the early railroad towns. Just 10 miles north is Lake Shetek State Park, where you can find a restored pioneer cabin and a monument to settlers killed in the Dakota Conflict of 1862. Half an hour further north is the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, dedicated to the author of the “Little House” books.



Accommodations
