• During two visits to the Barnes Foundation’s splendid new building, view Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings, as well as American decorative arts, treasures from antiquity and more.

John Giannotti

John Giannotti received a BFA degree magna cum laude from SUNY Buffalo, NY, and an MFA degree from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. He is presently Professor Emeritus at Rutgers where he was a faculty member at the Camden & New Brunswick branches for over 30 years. His paintings and sculptures have been exhibited worldwide including solo shows in London, England and Florence, Italy. Locally, his works are on exhibit at the New Jersey State Aquarium, as well as in Mt. Holly, Camden, Willingboro and Atlantic City New Jersey.
 
Elizabeth Anderson

Elizabeth Anderson, former curator of education at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, earned a master’s in art history at the University of Pennsylvania. She was associated with the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 1965 until her retirement in 2005, and during that time, presented numerous lecture series on art history, as well as gallery talks on specific objects in the museum’s collections. In addition to her activities at the museum, Elizabeth taught at LaSalle University, Drexel University, Rosemont College and St. Joseph’s University. She continues to be a guest lecturer at both the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Princeton University. Elizabeth is a former secretary of the Philadelphia chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians and the Museum Council of Philadelphia; a member of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society and The Athenaeum of Philadelphia. She is currently a trustee of The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks.

Rail service from the airport to Suburban Station at 17th & JFK Blvd is operated by SEPTA transist company at www.septa.org. Suburban Rail Station is 5 blocks from the hotel. Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival, Check-In, Orientation, Introductory Dinner at The Prime Rib
(Sunday, September 2)

Note: Nothing extraordinary as the restaurant is located in the hotel.



   
 Afternoon: Registration at 4:30 PM, followed by orientation. After you pick up your arrival packet, we?ll gather for welcome, introductions, and an orientation to the program.
 Dinner: Enjoy a relaxing meal at The Prime Rib award winning seafood and steak restaurant which evokes memories of the bygone Supper Clubs as you listen to a live baby grand piano. Vegetarian meals andd gluten diets can be accommodated.
 Evening: Nothing is planned so that you can rest up for the upcoming activities.

Day 2: Visit Barnes on the Parkway/Rodin Museum/Evening Lecture
(Monday, September 3)

Note: Busing to and from. Walking 1 block between museums. Normal amount of standing and walking in museums. Wheelchairs are available.



   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a full American Breakfast at the hotel restaurant
 Morning: Our bus takes us to The Barnes on the Parkway. We will enjoy an introductory lecture on Dr. Barnes and the collection followed by time to visit the galleries on your own with your audio cassette. Afterwards, we return to the auditorium for a question and answer period.
 Lunch: Lunch at the Barnes cafeteria.
 Afternoon: Adjacent to The Barnes Foundation is The Rodin Museum which we will visit on our own as. On Day 3 our reknown sculptor will discuss Rodin and his lost wax method. We return to the hotel after our visit.
 Dinner: Dinner this evening will be at a local restaurant close to the hotel. This restaurant can accommodate special diets and vegetarian.
 Evening: Enjoy an evening lecture.

Day 3: Field trip to Bronze Casting studio/Philadelphia Museum of Art/Free Evening
(Tuesday, September 4)

Note: Busing to and from. Must be able to stand for a short periond of time at casting studio. Normal amount of standing and walking in museums. Wheelchairs are available at the museum only



   
 Breakfast: Enjoy a full American breakfast at the hotel restaurant
 Morning: We depart by bus to meet our renown sculptor at his casting studio to learn about the "lost wax method" dating to the Greeks as well as to better understand the process of casting from clay to bronze
 Lunch: Lunch is on your own at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. There is a choice of two restaurants, the cafeteria or the Granite Hill for fine dining.
 Afternoon: Now is the time to explore the galleries at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, especially the Impressionist gallery. If a major exhibit is being offered then timed tickets will be provided. Return to the hotel on your own via public bus or taxis which are very convenient and readily available. Seniors with a Medicare card ride our public buses for free. Taxi cost is approx $8 for up to 4 persons.
 Evening: Tonight is your free evening to explore other Philadelphia neighborhoods for dining or meeting friends.
 Evening: This evening is free for you to enjoy an evening performance at a theater on the Avenue of the Arts or Walnut Street or a music concert performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

Day 4: Architecture lecture/Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts/Free Afternoon/Dinner/ Performance

 Breakfast: Full American breakfast at the hotel
 Morning: Learn about Philadelphia Architecure and the 1% percent clause relating to public sculpture
 Afternoon: Our bus takes us to The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to view its American only artist collection. The focus will be on American Impressionism. The Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts was founded by Charles Wilson Peale noted painter of George Washington and other 18th century luminaries. It is the first art school in American and still functions as an esteemed fine arts college today
 Dinner: DAVIO'S: Dinner this evening is at Davio's (1.5 blocks from the hotel) Craig LaBan, restaurant critic of the Philadelphia Inquirer, wrote, "few have delivered delicious specialties with the consistency I experienced at Davio's. "This self-styled Northern Italian steakhouse is in fact a stylish, up-scale restaurant on the second floor of the historic Provident Bank Building.
 Evening: For your last night in Philadelphia you will attend a concert or a performance at one of Philadelphia's performance's halls

Day 5: The Barnes Foundation on The Parkway/ program ends at Noon
