Take a “virtual” journey — from your comfortable location right here in the U.S. — as you explore the history, culture, music, and language of Poland, learning a few conversational words and phrases along the way. Learn about “the Breadbasket of Central Europe” with lectures enhanced by evening performances and Polish-inspired cuisine.
Highlights
• Study the history of Poland from its 1795 partition by Prussia, Russia, and Austria to the "Solidarity" movement led by Lech Walesa that would herald the collapse of Communism.
• Discuss theories of Copernicus, the father of modern astronomy.
• Listen to Chopin piano sonatas and mazurkas that borrowed heavily from traditional Polish folk music.

One hour southwest of Milwaukee, Lake Geneva is a resort city whose popularity arose from its accessibility from Chicago via the railroad. With its many large summer homes, the city has been called "The Newport of the West," and it remains a year round destination for those seeking a quaint, lakeside getaway.

Driving Directions
From Chicago to Lake Geneva
Take the I-294 N towards Milwaukee (there will be tolls). Take I-94 W (You are actually going north) to Milwaukee (There will be tolls). Take the Hwy 50 W exit to Kenosha/Lake Geneva. Follow Hwy 50 W approximately 28 miles to Lake Geneva. Stay on Hwy 50 W one mile and turn left into the Covenant Harbor Bible Camp entrance. The entrance is just before Highway 50 widens from two lanes to a four lane highway.
From Madison to Lake Geneva
Take I-90 south to I-43 north. Follow I-43 north to Hwy 50 east (Lake Geneva). Follow Hwy 50 for about 10 miles. As you enter Lake Geneva you are coming down a big hill and the highway will narrow from four lanes to two lanes, at this point the Covenant Harbor/Geneva Bay Centre entrance is on the right. Continue down the drive and bear to the right at the fork, up the hill to Geneva Bay Centre (three story red brick building). Passenger drop off to the left, parking to the right. Travel time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes.
From Milwaukee to Lake Geneva
Take I-43 south to Exit 36, Hwy 120 East Troy/Lake Geneva. Take Hwy 120 south 13 miles to Lake Geneva (three stop signs). Continue straight into Lake Geneva, do not follow Hwy 120 around the city, instead continue straight onto Broad Street to the second stop light (intersection of Broad St and Hwy 50, the lake will be directly in front of you). Turn right on Hwy 50 and proceed west one mile (the lake is on your left) to the Covenant Harbor Bible Camp/Geneva Bay Centre entrance on your left (lakeside). Look for the red "Welcome Road Scholar" sign. The entrance is just before Hwy 50 widens from two lanes to a four lane highway. If you see Snake Road you've gone too far. Continue down the driveway and bear to the right at Heinzelman Way, continue up the road and park in front of the thee-story brick building (Geneva Bay Centre).

Daily Schedule
Day 1:
Arrival, Welcoming Orientation
(Sunday, November 4)
Afternoon:
Plan to arrive in Lake Geneva in the afternoon. Check-in at Geneva Bay Centre at Covenant Harbor at 4:00 PM central time. Please, no early check-ins. If you do arrive early, you are welcome to bring in your luggage, have a cup of coffee and wait in the lounge or take a walk down by the lake until your room is ready. Room key, name tag and program booklet distributed at check-in.
Dinner:
Dinner in the dining room. Most meals will be buffet style for this program. You'll find a salad bar with fresh greens and an array of toppings. Be sure to pace yourself at meals; we know it all looks so good, and it is, but you'll want to pace yourself. Grab a seat in the dining room and take your glass to the beverage center for your choice of soda, iced tea, coffee, tea or ice water. Meal times are a great opportunity to meet your fellow participants and talk about past programs you have attended.
Evening:
After dinner, gather in the meeting room to kick off the program with ORIENTATION. Your Group Leader will give an overview of the program, provide additional information about your accommodations and amenities and answer any questions you might have. Then you'll have a chance to introduce yourself to the group and tell a little bit about your hometown and hobbies.

History, Language, Culture, Evening Entertainment
(Monday, November 5)
Breakfast:
Breakfast in the dining room. Oatmeal or other hot cereal served every morning for the health conscious.
Morning:
Begin the program with a little POLISH LANGUAGE (LECTURE). The instructor will have you practice some simple words and phrases such as yes and no, my name is... and I live in... We'll take a 30-minute break in between morning classes. This will give you a chance to stretch and perhaps take a walk outside. Come back and learn about POLISH HISTORY (LECTURE).
Lunch:
Lunch in the dining room. Our talented kitchen staff prepare fresh choices every day.
Afternoon:
Continue discussion on POLISH HISTORY AND CULTURE (LECTURE).
Dinner:
Dinner at the dining room. Save room for dessert!

Breakfast in the dining room. Maybe just some fruit and yogurt today.
Morning:
Continue with discussion on POLISH HISTORY AND CULTURE (LECTURE). A 30-minute break provides an opportunity to take a walk around the grounds. Perhaps you'd like to see the historic carriage house from the original estate. Begin discussion on POLISH MUSIC (LECTURE).
Lunch:
Lunch in the dining room. Be sure to save room for a cookie.
Afternoon:
Continue discussion on POLISH MUSIC (LECTURE). Follow up with a session on POLAND'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE (LECTURE).
Dinner:
Dinner in the dining room.
Evening:
Enjoy some evening entertainment with Dr. Trevor Stephenson playing CLASSICAL MUSIC BY POLISH COMPOSERS.

(Wednesday, November 7)
Breakfast:
Breakfast in the dining room. Scrambled eggs are often on the menu and most often are egg beaters for those watching their cholesterol.
Morning:
Enjoy a COOKING DEMONSTRATION (LECTURE) with Covenant Harbor's Executive Chef Deb Lampert. She plans all the meals for our groups and enjoys researching special recipes for our Passport programs. Take a 30-minute break and enjoy a glass of juice before coming back for another session on POLISH HISTORY AND CULTURE (LECTURE).
Lunch:
Lunch in the dining room. Try the super salad bar!
Afternoon:
Explore the life and works of POLISH ARTISTS (LECTURE).
Dinner:
Dinner in the dining room. Our last dinner together; the program ends tomorrow. Too soon!
Evening:
Enjoy some light entertainment of POLISH FOLK MUSIC with musician Jim Sambol.
