Chautauqua

Founded in 1874, the internationally acclaimed Chautauqua Institution offers interactive education in the fine and performing arts, religion, the humanities, and recreation to more than 100,000 annual visitors.

George Deutsch
A historian whose specialty lies with the Civil War and the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, George Deutsch is the co-founder of several historical organizations including the Erie Maritime Museum. He has taught at Chautauqua since 2005, and is currently writing a book on the untold history of its last year in the Civil War. He has been honored by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and received the Local History Award in 2003 from the Erie County Historical Society.
 
Molly Williamson
A retired Foreign Service officer who served six U.S. presidents, Molly Williamson was the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Secretary of Energy and interim ambassador to Bahrain. She was also Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce responsible for the Middle East, South Asia, Oceania and Africa, and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense responsible for the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. Molly is a scholar with the Middle East Institute, a member of Georgetown University’s MSFS oral boards, and a board member of the American Foreign Service Association and American Academy of Diplomacy.

Driving Directions
  Albany and North Take I 90 west toward Erie and exit 60 at Westfield NY. Turn left onto Rte 394 and proceed 11 miles to Chautauqua Institution Main Gate entrance. Follow directional signs to the Athenaeum Hotel.
  Buffalo and East Take I 90 west to exit 60-Westfield, NY. Turn left onto Rte 394 and proceed 11 miles to Cahutauqua Institution Main Gate Entrance. Follow directional signs to Athenaeum Hotel.
  Cleveland, Erie and West Take I 90 east toward Buffalo to exit I 86- exit 37. Proceed 20 miles on I 86 to exit 7 - Rte 33. Exit and turn left heading East-proceed 4 miles to Rte 394. Turn right onto 394 and proceed 1/4 mile to Chautauqua Institution Main Gate Entrance. Follow directional signs to Athenaeum Hotel.
  Pittsburgh and South Take I 79 North to I 90 East through Erie. Follow I 90 to Route I 86 -exit 37. Take I 86 to exit 7- 20 miles. Turn left onto Route 33 off of exit and proceed east to Rte 394. Turn right onto Rte 394 and go 1/4 mile to Chautauqua Institution Main Gate Entrance. Follow directional signs to Athenaeum Hotel.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Check in/registration/Program begins at 3 pm in lobby of Athenaeum Hotel at Chautauqua Institution with a 5 pm welcome and orientation followed by group dinner . Participants are free to attend Sacred Song Service in the amphitheater at 8 pm.

 Arrive To: Program to check in followed by welcome reception, orientation with intros, and dinner. Evening entertainment is optional Sacred Song Service
 Afternoon: Hotel check-in and program registration is from 3-5 pm followed by a welcome reception and brief orientation at 5 pm in the Athenaeum Hotel.
 Dinner: Dinner begins at 6:00 pm.
 Evening: Group is free to attend Sacred Song service in the Ampitheater or do whatever they would like that is offered throughout the property
