Join us to explore its nationally significant cultural and historic heritage with expert background presentations and field trips to iconic sites that vary by season. Enjoy an afternoon cruise on the majestic Hudson to appreciate the splendid scenery.




Highlights

• Visit Gomez Mill House, the oldest Jewish residence in America as well as Washington's final Revolutionary Headquarters in Newburgh.
• Explore New Paltz’s historic Huguenot Street, one of the nation’s oldest, featuring seven unique stone houses dating to the early 1700s, a burial ground and a reconstructed 1717 stone church.
• Experience a cruise on the Hudson River past quaint sleepy villages, historic lighthouses and sumptuous estates.

This program date includes a field trip and luncheon at the expansive gardens and grounds of The Mohonk ("Lake in the Sky") Mountain House, built in 1869. This amazing Victorian castle is a luxurious forested retreat nestled in the Shawangunk Mountains.

Visit the Boscobel Restoration and enjoy a production of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.

Experience and explore the spectacular Mohonk Mountain House, a Victorian castle built in 1869.

The Hudson River Valley, just north of New York City, harbors quaint villages and historic sites, such as the Roosevelt homes in Hyde Park and Val-Kill. The area also hosts numerous art museums and concert venues.

  Description: Our lovely campus has a beautiful view of the Hudson River. We are located in historic Newburgh, home to Washington's Revolutionary War Headquarters and closeby to West Point, Hyde Park, and many other attractions. The campus features a modern library and a gym/recreation complex which is shared with other programs.

  Room amenities: The dorm rooms will be clean and comfortable. Each room has a refrigerator and microwave. However, participant may want to bring their own alarm clock, radio, reading lamp, hair dryer, extra pillow .... for their comfort.
  Facility amenities: Our secure dormitory facilities are seven years old with air conditioning, private baths and amazing views of the Hudson River!

  Bathroom: Sakac Hall rooms are a typical suite set-up. Each bedroom has its own bath but the bathroom door is 3' adjacent to the bedroom door and one must step into shared area (not hallway) to go into the bathroom.

The campus is also accessible by air (Stewart International Airport in Newburgh (10 minutes from campus) or Albany International, Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark - (all approx. 1.5 - 2 hrs. away) and bus - Shortline from Port Authority in NYC. Driving Directions
  East, West, North/South From points East Take I-84 west to second Newburgh exit, 10S. Bear sharply right on exit ramp and go 1/4 mile to traffic light at intersection of Rt. 9W and Rt. 32. Turn right onto Rt. 9W south. At second light (Sunoco gas station is on the left), turn left onto North Plank Road, which becomes North St. Turn right at next traffic light onto Powell Avenue; the Mount is 1/4 mile on left. From points North or South Take the New York State Thruway to Newburgh exit 17. Go through tollbooth, bear right and follow signs for I-84. Take I-84 east to Newburgh exit 10. At the bottom of exit ramp, turn right onto Rt. 9W south. At first light (Sunoco gas station is on the left) turn left onto North Plank Road, which becomes North St. Turn right at next traffic light onto Powell Avenue; the Mount is 1/4 mile on left. From points West Take I-84 east to Newburgh Exit 10. At bottom of exit ramp, turn right onto Rt. 9W south. Day 1: Welcome to the Mount!
(Sunday, July 22)

Note: A tour of the campus and orientation for the week as well as a welcome dinner.
   
 Afternoon: Welcome! Check in is between 2-4 p.m. in Sakac Hall.
 Dinner: Following check-in we will tour the campus, enjoy a welcome dinner and have an orientation.

Day 2: A special lecture and a tour of the beautiful Huguenot Street followed by a visit to the Maritime Museum to learn more about "the river that flows both ways."
(Monday, July 23)

Note: We are v. fortunate to be visiting Huguenot Street at the time of completion of a major restoration of the interior of the Abraham Hasbrouck House, c. 1721. Please see: www.huguenotstreet.org for a preview of what is in store for you!
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the dormitory.
 Morning: We will travel to America's oldest street, the beautiful Huguenot Street in New Paltz for a lecture and a tour.
 Lunch: After lunch we will visit the Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY to learn more about the rich history of the Hudson River, the river that flows both ways.
 Dinner: After dinner there will be a class or a film shown.

Day 3: You will have some free time today to tour on your own. All kinds of information will be available to you.
(Tuesday, July 24)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the dorm.
 Morning: This morning there will be a class or some entertainment.
 Lunch: You will have an afternoon of free time to enjoy the area. Please ask for suggestions of where to visit!
 Dinner: Tonight there will be a class or some entertainment.

Day 4: A day at Mohonk Mountain House!!
(Wednesday, July 25)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the dorm.
 Morning: This morning we will leave for a day at Mohonk Mountain House that will include a luncheon and time to enjoy the incredible gardens and grounds of this luxurious forested retreat nestled in the Shawangunk Mountains. Built in 1869 this enchanting Victorian castle will enchant you! (www.Mohonk.com)
 Lunch: Following a luncheon you may continue to enjoy the grounds and gift shops at Mohonk.
 Dinner: Tonight there will be a class or entertainment.

Day 5: A visit to Gomez Mill House and a cruise on the Hudson River!
(Thursday, July 26)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the dorm.
 Morning: We will tour Gomez Mill House and learn its amazing history.
 Lunch: Following lunch we will cruise the beautiful Hudson River. A relaxing couple of hours on what you've been looking at all week from the dorm!
 Dinner: Following dinner we will have a farewell party!

Day 6: A class about the historic Hudson Valley.
(Friday, July 27)
   
 Breakfast: Breakfast is served in the dorm.
 Morning: The final class about this historic Hudson Valley will take place.
