The Oregon Bach Festival celebrates the music and legacy of J.S. Bach in an unequaled environment of performance, discovery and community. See and hear the best the music world has to offer, from masterworks for chorus and orchestra to rare gems from the vast classical repertoire, performed by internationally heralded music stars under the direction of Helmuth Rilling.




Highlights

• Attend five concerts, as well as choral and orchestral rehearsals.
• Enjoy masterworks from the Baroque era to today, perhaps even a world premiere.
• Combine concerts and rehearsals with lectures and demonstrations by University of Oregon faculty and the festival's own academic programming.

This year, celebrate Helmuth Rilling's 80th birthday, and his last year as director.

Elevation Note: The Eugene area is largely between 200 and 800 feet above sea level.

 Evening: Oregon Bach Festival evening concert. Debussy Soiree Imagine yourself in a Paris salon at the turn of the century for a night of impressionist music penned by Claude Debussy, whose unmistakable sonorities and harmonies influenced a generation of composers. In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Debussy's birth, this concert offers both his piano music and his distinctive songs, with their sensitive settings of poetic texts.  Morning: Grace Ho Piano Recital "Of Time and Timelessness: Memory, Nostalgia, and the Imagination" Artists and composers of the Romantic period were captivated and inspired by the past. Their yearning sometimes took the form of depicting a lost golden age, and often times memory was expressed as bittersweet nostalgia for a forgotten past.
 Lunch: Lunch at University of Oregon dining services at Barnhart Hall cafeteria features a wide variety of menu choices.
 Afternoon: Discovery Series rehearsal. Bach's St. Matthew Passion at Beall Concert Hall
 Dinner: Dinner at University of Oregon dining services at Barnhart Hall cafeteria features a wide variety of menu choices.
 Evening: Evening Concert: The 5 Browns, the first family of five siblings ever to simultaneously attend the Juilliard School, radiate youthful exuberance yet perform on their matching Steinway pianos with a mature musical sensibility. The OBF welcomes back the fabulous five for a concert that includes classical favorites and Hollywood hits.

Day 4: Oregon Bach Festival evening concert: Joe Powers Tango Quintet
(Friday, July 13)
   
 Breakfast: University of Oregon dining service provides many breakfast choices at Barnhart Hall cafeteria. Continental breakfast also available at Phoenix Inn.
 Morning: Wyatt True and Margaret Greis, Violin and Harpsichord Recital at the historic Collier House on University of Oregon campus. Their program will look at typical Italian, French, and German styles in the early eighteenth century through the works of Arcangelo Corelli, Jean Baptist Senaillé, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
 Lunch: Lunch at University of Oregon dining services at Barnhart Hall cafeteria features a wide variety of menu choices.
 Afternoon: Craig Einhorn, Classical and Tango guitar recital, UO Baker Downtown Center. As a tribute to the Oregon Bach Festival, Craig Einhorn will perform several works by J.S. Bach. In honor of the Spanish roots of the guitar, he will perform Spanish works by Issac Albeniz and other Spanish composers. In addition, he will perform various Brazilian and Argentine works in more popular styles including Choro, Tango, and Milonga.
 Dinner: Dinner at University of Oregon dining services at Barnhart Hall cafeteria features a wide variety of menu choices.
 Evening: Evening Concert: Tango Harmonica Joe Powers Tango Quintet: An Oregon native who was trained in Buenos Aires, and who has performed in such wide-ranging locales as Tokyo, Paris, London, Geneva, and San Francisco, harmonica virtuoso Joe Powers welcomes new musical adventures and thrives on expanding the horizons of his instrument. Joe, his international quartet, and a troupe of tango dancers will perform a typically eclectic mix of tango, milonga, samba, and classical works.

 Afternoon: Wine tasting. King Estates Vinyard

 Evening: Evening Concert: Pianist Angela Hewitt performs Bach's Goldberg Variations at Beall Concert Hall. First published in 1741, the work is considered to be one of the most important examples of variation form.
