National Park Tours from Acadia to Zion
"National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst."
-Wallace Stegner
Pulitzer Prize-winning author and "The Dean of Western Writers"
In 1872, Congress, at the urging of several western explorers, took a large tract of land near the headwaters of the Yellowstone River off the public auction block and made it into a park to be enjoyed by the public. Yellowstone National Park was the first of its kind, not just in the United States but anywhere in the world.
Today, the National Park System of the United States comprises 390 areas covering more than 84 million acres in 49 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan, and the Virgin Islands; Jasper National Park and Banff National Park in Canada cover an additional 4.3 million acres.
Road Scholar offers programs in many of them, from Denali to the
Everglades and countless beautiful, historic American places in between.
And, in Road Scholar's trademark way, our programs show you the National
Parks as you just can't see them on your own, with field trips led by
specialized experts, the kind of people who can show you how to track
wildlife or lead you to the spot with the most awe-inspiring view.
